If you are looking for a bird to handle a finch would not be the bird. They only live for 5 years and are very small. So if you want a finch you should make sure you have a cage and a not to load household.
Pros, are quite easy to care for and don't take up so much room.
Cons, only lives for 5 years cant handle and can die easily.

I have a male female pair of the red cheeked cordon bleu finches and they are one of my favorite finch breeds. They are stunningly beautiful and so fun to watch. They are obviously devoted to one another, so much so that I have decided to try to breed them even though I did not initially plan to. They are so cute doing their mating rituals and carrying around grasses to build their nest. Even if they don't breed they are such a joy to have. I have heard that they are hard to care for but mine seem quite healthy and happy. They bring me joy and happiness everyday!

I purchased two of these beautiful birds. was hoping for a pair, but was very hard to tell male and females apart.
The staff at Petsmart was very helpful in trying to capture the two I picked out of the bunch.
I absolutly love there soft sweet singing and have found, they have become quite friendly and personalable.
Pros: very quiet

I currently have 3 of these. Two I brought home to Oregon from Lake Havasu. The third I purchased in Oregon and have had for 9 years (way past the 5 they say is the lifespan) They are easy to care for and hardy!
These finches are a joy to be around, make great little "jungle noises" and sing beautifully, especially during mating.
Pros: beautiful hardy and easy to care for.
Cons: hard to breed.

These birds are some of the most beautiful finch species you can find. They have a metallic red/pinkish beak and beautiful blue feathers. Their song is lovely and they hop around playfully most of the day. They are known to be difficult to breed in captivity. The babies or eggs are usually fostered by another breed of finch. Mine are a pair and have laid one egg in the one week that I have had them. The male's courtship dance is very amusing. The birds seem to enjoy attention, but do not like hands in their cage. I feed them finch seeds, lettuce, spray millet and mealworms. Their favorite food appears to be the mealworms.
Pros: exquisite beauty, beautiful song, amusing courtship dance, cheerful hopping around all day, eats mealworms
Cons: difficult to breed
