I have a spice finch that I named Owl. Owl has crooked toenails and some times get stuck on perches so, I have a Zebra Finch that helps him out. I have 10 birds ( Yea 10 this is not a typo!) and 2 of them are finches and one of them is a spice finch. Finches are great pets for ant age and you do not have to worry about handling because they are aviary birds. ADMIRED FOR THEE BEAUTY! -PEACE!!!!!!!

These little guys make great little companion's that will brighten up anyone's day. I named my female Spice finch cookie because she is pale tan like a cookie and has dark spots like chocolate chips. And Brownie is my male because he is a dark brown and is sweet. I bought my finches 6 years ago and now they are at least 8 years old.

This spice finch is a social bird if you give it the right attention. My spice's name is browny and all the time when I call by name they know the name's given to them and this goes for all most of all finch birds. I have my first spice finch follow by a Zebra,Society,Green singer, and a Cordon Blue finch and I got them all at pet smart oh by the way my society finch has eggs so hopefuly that will go well. By the way always do your own personal check on the type of bird your bringing home just to make sure that's the right bird for you thank you.

When I got back into owning birds, my first purchase was a pair of Spice Finches. They laid eggs for years, but none ever hatched making me wonder if I had two females. Since they were caged with breeding pairs of Zebra Finches, they would often try to incubate the eggs and care for the babies. Their song was a soothing chirping. They enjoyed the fresh food that I put in their cage daily that included corn, peas, romaine lettuce, cheddar cheese, carrots, boiled eggs with shell, bananas and dandelion greens.
Pros: easy to raise, nice song
Cons: hard to tell gender of birds, don't like to be handled
