It hasn't torn yet and the crabs are using it just fine. I haven't heard any complaints from them, hahaha!

First off, I'd like to say that the review describing hermit crab care is correct. However, it doesn't describe too much about the sponge, so I thought I'd contribute.
Hermit crab sponges are all natural, but it is NOT a natural source of water for the crab. In fact, it should mostly be used to keep humidity levels high. In tanks, moss would actually be more beneficial for this purpose, as sponges grow bacteria and should be switched out frequently. Hermit crabs don't get water from the sponges - they don't have the kind of mouths to wrap around the sponge in the first place. Sponges should probably only be used as a source of chitin - an important part of a hermit crab diet that strengthens the exoskeleton. Since hermit crabs will gradually eat the natural sponge, one small one will last a long time.
Pros: provides chitin important for hermit crab diet, will help regulate humidity, edible for hermit crabs
Cons: small, grows bacteria, does not actually provide water for drinking, must be changed out

This cage was too small for my hermit crabs. I had to get them a 10 gallon, and spend even more money.

Land Hermit Crabs should not be used for teaching little kids to be responsible. They shouldn't be used for a little 7 year old to take care of wrongly and drop. They are very...how can I put this...not so easy to take care of pets.
You don't just take these animals and throw them in a cage with tap water, crab food, and rocks. They need more than that.
They need a bigger cage. A 10 or 20 gallon glass tank is good. If you have bigger crabs or a lot of crabs you may need a bigger tank. Plastic also doesn't hold humidity (Which crabs need to breathe) in well. Glass does. This tank could be used to isolate small crabs that need to molt. Or you can put your small crabs in here when you clean their main tank.
The plastic plant is good. But when you have a bigger cage you should also get a bigger plants for them to hide under.
The gravel is not so great. The gravel goes into their shell once in a while. Not good. I would say get some play sand from a toy store and moisten it. You may also mix in some coconut fiber substrate for hermit crabs you can find at PetsMart or other pet stores. Make sure it is deep enoegh for your crabs to dig under to relieve stress and molt.
There's nothing wrong with the night sky scene. Although I perfer not to have a scene some people find it pretty.
Most hermit crab foods contain ethoxyquin. Which can kill crabs. Not all list it in the ingrediants. I'm not saying this one definitally has one, but it's a likely possiblility. Some people decide to put their crabs on an all natural diet just to be safe.
Sea sponges are good but you don't need one. I use a big water bowl and fill it up so my biggest crab can bathe himself in. I also made it so the smaller ones (and him) can bathe in it and climb out safely. They perfer bathing themselves than being put in water when they don't want to.
Alright that's all I got to say. I know I write to much but telling people about proper care of crabs can never be to long. Hope it helped :)
