I lvoed the way this produced made my tank look. I use play sand and eco earth I just put a couple of handfuls of this stuff on top of my play sand. Did not float when I rinsed.

My hermit crabs liked this, but it would not be good by itself... hermies can't burrow in it when their molting. But if you use it with calcium sand, it's a great choice. I did this with my 3 crabs in a 20 gallon tank, 1/3 this, 2/3 calcium sand. My hermit crabs loved it, and started coming out quite a bit more often.
The annoying thing though is rinsing it with water. I found this a difficult task. I lost around 1/6 of the rocks down the drain, because it floats!!!! If this wasn't a problem, I would absoulutly love this. (Just make sure you have at least half of the tank 3" deep of calcium sand!)
Pros: natural look, hermit crabs love it
Cons: hard to rinse off because subtrate floats, not good for use without calcium sand

This is not the best choice of substrate for hermit crabs. It may get stuck in their shell. They also may not be able to dig under.
For hermit crabs, I would suggest moist playsand from the toy store deep enoegh for your crabs to burrow under. You can also mix in some hermit crab coconut fiber you can find at pet stores such as PetsMart.
Although this product should not be used as a hermit crab's substrate, using this in a fish's tank is ok.
Overall Rating // 2 Stars because it is not great for hermit crabs but good for fish.
I hope my reveiw helped. Thanks for reading it.
