Top Paw(r) 3M Thinsulate Reflective Coat

It's snowin' and blowin' outsidekeep your pet warm and comfortable. These coats and boots hold body heat, even when damp, to protect pets from wintry weather. Made with 3M Thinsulate warm fleece, this coat can be worn to show the reflective stripes. Thanks to the convenient Velcro closures at the belly and neck the coat fits nice and snuggly. A PetSmart exclusive.

(I compared 2 of these coats from Top Paw against each other - Large vs Extra Large Reflective Thinsulate coat. I'll re-post my thoughts here as well. The extra large red coat won by barely a nose!)
Warning: detailed review ahead - detour to the last 2 paragraphs if not interested in thorough review - Reviewing the Top Paw Reflective Stripe 3M Thinsulate - both Large and Extra Large Coats:
Wow, I was really surprised in the differences that shouldn't have been there and surprised again by the differences that should have been there! Neither coat was a true winner IMO, but I'll go with the extra large. Here's why ...
Should nots: The materials were different between the large and extra large exterior side of the coat (same fleece-like Thinsulate on the inside). It was quite different in thickness, strength, and weave/construction. My opinion - there shouldn't be this difference in same style between sizes - almost like a different product line when going from large to extra large. This made the difference in the strength and robustness of the coats. The large coat failed right from the start. The large coat's dark blue material felt more like plastic (stiffer) and also felt thinner. I think that is why the poor stitching job at the seam of the body belt failed! The material just pulled apart (shredded) right away on the initial fitting on my little dog! The coat was a huge disappointment. I had to order it online and have it delivered as the local stores couldn't get their inventory organized! NO choice of color when picking a size in this style. Large was dark blue, no pattern, a few reflective stripes. You take this color or need to look for another style or product all together. The extra large coat was only offered in red with grey paw prints and the reflective stripes.
Shoulds: Another surprise was how little the difference in sizing between the large and extra large coats. I would never call either of them large or extra large and the difference between the two was only a couple inches all the way around (see pictures I've uploaded). With the belts/straps that fasten around the collar area and around the body, there is some room for width adjustment but I couldn't see this fitting much more than a medium size pooch. There should be a much bigger range in sizing. The real big medium-large-extra-large dogs will have to go without in this product line and style.
The extra large coat actually fit my little "medium-sized" beagle-combo dog and draped down her sides to offer more coverage, sort of like a cape but was well clear of her legs and feet. She only stands 15" at the shoulder (withers) and weights about 30 lbs. She is stocky-build frame (think bulldog wanna-be on a beagle chassis! HA) but I would never size her as an extra large.
I kept the extra large which offered a little better coverage and a slightly more robust outer layer material. The seams "seem" to be reinforced a little more and might hold up. The straps are way too long, though, and I'll have to add a little more stick-on hook and loop to hold the ends in place. I don't see this coat lasting very long if heavily used. My dog is more relaxed and in the senior circuit now, so rough play is behind us. On a rough or active/hyper dog this product wouldn't last.

I bought this jacket for my Great Dane for Christmas. She has a red one also and loves it. It keeps her very warm. She gets excited when I put it on her and will lay on the jacket when I take it off of her.

Did not receive boots. I ordered 3 coats for each of my Labs. The 2 that we use so far are working out fantastic. I however did not receive the boots. I think that the ease of putting on this coat makes up for it. It also blocks the wind. With the other sweater type jackets, the wind cuts right through them. This jacket stops the wind. I would suggest this coat because of the ease of placement and the material that blocks the wind.

Is it just me, or is this coat supposed to come with booties? That's why I ordered it.
