I just posted a review for the beef flavor and decided to post for the salmon/poultry free bag. I switched to Natural Ultramix trying to find the RIGHT food for my almost 2 year old boxer/pit. He has been suffering for over a year with skin allergies. I Switched to Blue from Beneful and it temporarily helped with the issues until the Vet talked me out of it because "Blue outsourced their factories". She recommended Science Diet and that was a mistake. I tried the Sensitive Skin bag and I wish I got my money back. His allergies got worse and was even accompanied with a bad ear infection. Did even MORE research about grain free brands and thought I'd try to eliminate chicken. FINALLY I found a company with a formula with NO hint of chicken or poultry in the ingredients. Picked up a bag and for the very first time my boy cleans his bowl morning and night and so far it seem to be holding up pretty well. I hope the Natural Ultramix Beef AND Salmon are the answers to my prayers. I plan to alternate the bags as they slightly differ in ingredients. Plus I like to add the variety and I honestly think he likes the Beef More. Finger crossed that this will help his skin/coat problems.
I brought this food in a pinch when my regularly scheduled dog food order (from a different company) didn't arrive on time. I have dogs with allergies and sensitivities to chicken, grains, and white potato, and it was the only food I could find at PetSmart that was both grain and poultry free - something that's difficult to find! - too bad it isn't also white potato free.
My five of my dogs enjoyed this food. They preferred the kibble to the dried fruits and veggies, and this made feeding them from "treat balls" difficult: my floor was littered with bits of dried carrots and banana that not a single dog cared to eat. (The same food in a dish, however, did not get the same results - not bits left behind.) The dried fruit and veggies aren't digested well, and result in some colorful poo.
My dogs are all pretty active, and I generally feed a very high calorie grain/gluten/potato free food. At only 375 kcal/cup, I fed a lot more of this to keep weight on my active pit bulls and whirling dervish of a Boston Terrier - I'm talking up to twice the recommended amounts for their weights. My American Bulldogs, however, managed just fine at about a cup more a piece than the bag recommended for their weights.
For the average activity level dogs with sensitivities to grain and poultry, this is a great food. It's higher quality than most, smells good, and seems to be well received.
I have two pits that were shedding like crazy and one with an extremely sensitive stomach. Came to find out chicken irritated her belly even more. Changed over to this Salmon mix because it is made in the USA and is high in Crude Protein. Both pups LOVE it!!! Shedding has been cut in half and no more upset stomachs!! I highly recommend this as a reasonably priced diet with the nutritional value needed for the breed.
