The carpet on this is a bit slick and both my kittens have their claws still. When they jump on it, they tend to slide. They do like the posts as they can scratch on it and the height but don't use it as much as their other scratch tower which is much taller and has a different texture of carpet that doesn't cause them to slide.

For the price, this is a really good product, and my cat LOVES it. While I was skeptical of the rope-wrapped scratching posts at first, my cat was not, uses every one of them and they have held up well. The different levels of this product let her tuck in for a nap, get up high to look out the window, or lay on her side and play with the teaser. My two criticisms were relatively easy for me to remedy, but should definitely be addressed in the next re-design. They both have to do with access: The platforms of the top levels are almost directly over one another, not giving the cat much clearance around the side to climb up from the level below-- for the top level, I fixed this by rotating the top platform 45 degrees, giving the cat space to climb up from the corner of the platform below. The second problem is trickier, in that the "roof" of the second level was too high for my cat to jump to, and since the product is covered with thin fur rather than carpet or sisal, she couldn't grip into it with her claws to pull herself up either. Lucky for me, by placing a another scratching post that we already had directly next to it, she could use the post to climb up to the roof and the two levels above. (This also remedied the clearance problem of getting to the platform directly over the roof) Without another way for your cat to get up, this may be a problem unless your cat is incredibly thin and an amazingly strong and accurate jumper. On the positive side, the fur is very soft and easy to vacuum to keep clean. All in all, I'm really happy with the current set-up, and my cat LOVES it-- the very modest price of this product allowed me to give her something with many more levels and features than she would have gotten in any of the other products I could find at a comparable price, and it looks very nice.
