How often do you shop at PetSmart?A few times a year
My cat, Dax, has a serious allergy problem (eosinophililc granuloma complex.) The Simply Nourish sweet potato and salmon has become a staple for Dax. Now that I've moved to a small town, I have to order it online, but it's worth it! Dax is healthy and we are all living happily ever after!
One of my 2 cats is a puking machine. She was puking at least three times a week. This is a problem when I have MS and can't look down without getting dizzy. I don't need to be getting dizzy to see if I'm about to step in puke.
I had tried Authority, Blue Diamond, Nutro, Evo, Science Diet--The cat still threw up at least three times a week.
I went to the store to look through the brands and saw this one. I bought it, thinking it wouldn't work, but it did. The puker stopped puking, save for one time when she was first eating it.
The other advantage of this food is that a bag lasts a LONG time. My cats don't seem to be as hungry as often. I bought one of the 7 lb bags, and the monsters are just now finishing it.
My little cat had stopped eating the other dry foods entirely, and was on a diet solely of can food. This was way too expensive to maintain, but when I opened this bag, she came running and went right to the bowl, scarfing up food like a starved thing. She still likes it, and will come poking around anytime I'm in the pantry, to see if I'm getting her more food. She's my idiot picky cat who won't eat from a bowl that isn't sufficiently full. Go figure.
I also don't know why people are complaining about the smell. IOnce, I told my husband someone was wearing too much cologne. He didn't know what I was talking about. It was gagging me. The offender was 200 yards away from me, and I could smell his cologne.
So if the cat food smell of the food doesn't bother someone like me with super-smell capabilities, I don't know how it can bother anyone else. If it bothers you that much, keep it closed and in a cabinet or pantry when you're not feeding your cat(s).
I had been searching for a quality cat food that wasn't loaded full of garbage ingredients yet was still reasonably priced and that all 4 of my cats would like. This was proving to be quite a challenge until I came across Simply Nourish and now that I've found it I couldn't be happier with this brand. My older male cat was having terrible skin allergies which were causing him to over-groom and lose his fur, but since switching to this food his hair has grown back and I don't have to take him to the vet for steroid shots any more. It has also helped my 2 overindulgent eaters maintain a healthier weight. The salmon smell is quite strong, which might bother some people, and some cats don't care much for salmon flavor, but of all the flavors offered by Simply Nourish this is my cats' favorite. My cats also really enjoy the grain-free food and I would highly recommend that for anyone whose cats (or nose) can't tolerate the salmon.
I have two cats, one of whom will eat literally anything, and the other who, while not picky, has allergies or sensitivities to many things, like chicken and shellfish. He would often throw up after eating, and his coat became dull and he shed a LOT.
I had previously had both cats on Nature's Valley Instinct limited ingredient food, but it made their poops absolutely horrendous. I'm talking smell-it-three-rooms-away bad, and never firm. This made for super bad news when one of my cats pooped in my car.
I decided to switch to this food and it has changed my life. Yes, it is kind of smelly, as others have said, but just keep it zipped shut. Neither of my cats have any reservations about eating it, and their poops have become much more regular and far less offensive to the nose. My older cat still throws up maybe once a month, but I think this is due to the pace at which he eats sometimes, and definitely not the food.
Both cats are healthy and happy, and here's another crazy thing: they actually eat periodically throughout the day. With cheaper foods, they would scarf everything down as soon as I'd put it in their bowls, and still be mewling for more. Now, they eat a little, walk away, come back later, repeat. I think this food is much more filling/satisfying. Overall, GREAT.
My kitty has a poultry allergy and was on prescription food from the vet which was very costly. When I discovered Petsmart's Simply Nourish limited ingredient (poultry free) dry food I was thrilled. My cat loves it and it's excellent quality. Plus, it's literally a quarter of the cost of the vet food for the same amount! I will always choose quality over price, but even so, I was worried I'd never find a healthy, afforable food. Simply Nourish is it. My cat and bank account are much happier for it.
I only wish the wet food version was available in Canada but in the mean time I'll keep feeding Wellness wet and be grateful for Simply Nourish dry!
All 3 indoor cats (ages 16 with few teeth, 5, and 3) are doing very well on this dry food (salmon/sweet potatoe), after a slow "blended" transition from our many-years-loyal premium brand. Our senior cat has especially flourished, with a dramatic reduction in skin and coat issues (possibly from fillers and sensitivities). The size, texture, and smell of the kibble is also attractive to all of our cats - an important feature from the cat perspective, as they don't really care about healthy content. >^..^<
I have a male part-Siamese cat who apparently has food allergies. When I first got him I fed him Blue Buffalo with chicken, and he had a lot of digestive issues with that, so the vet recommended switching protein sources. If you've ever looked for a food that does not contain any form of chicken, you'll understand that it's nearly impossible. Thank goodness cat food makers are starting to come out with the limited ingredient formulas. I had him on EVO Herring and Salmon for a while, but at $50 for a 15.4-lb bag, it was really not the best choice for my budget. I'm SO glad I found this product. Great price, and my cat seems to like it a lot, better than the EVO. It does have a strong fishy odor, but not nearly as bad as the herring formula. I appreciate that the ingredients are limited and understandable.
This is a second review on anothe flavor. My cats also love this flavor. I changed my kitties over to Simply Nourish. I feed all flavors mixed together. My cats eat less, use the litter box less. Since I changed over to this food none of them throw up any longer. It has been almost 2 years. Their coats are so shiney and healthy. This is a great food. Try it.
OMG - I have a cat who's allergic to chicken. It's more common than you think for small animals (dogs, too) and goes undiagnosed for years. This is one of the few dry foods out there that has zero chicken in it.
My gigantic and elderly Maine Coon LOVES this product. He gets fed raw venison or mouse burgers with the correct nutrients added, but loves a crunch to his wet food beyond bones and cartilage. This product is totally awesome!
Some reviewers complain about the smell, but we don't have that problem. Either keep the bag zipped shut or put it in a sealed food container. The product bag, when sealed properly, allows no odors to escape. It's mostly salmon, so what's it going to smell like when the bag is open, hello?
This is a truly great in-house product with fantastic ingredients. Sadly, we know what most people feed their pets - a steady diet of junk food from the major pet food manufacturers. If your pet is on a truly healthy diet and gets to taste whole meat for once, we think that they'll also like this dry food. We hope that PetSmart never, ever drops this product.
I have a senior cat, who is slightly overweight and diabetic. I switched her from Hill's Science Light to the Salmon and Sweet Potato formula, and I have seen some amazing changes. While she has still only lost a small amount of weight, she has become more active and vocal, in addition to being more friendly and affectionate. After three months, her whiskers, which have stayed broken the entire three years I have had her, are growing back full length, and her feces do not smell nearly as bad as they did on the Hill's food.
I am totally sold on the food based on that alone, but add in the great price, and I think my cat and I will stick with this for a good long while.
I got this for two cats with health issues—one an allergy-related growth in her mouth, the other small-cell lymphoma in her intestines. I don’t actually know if the food has helped any since these are half-ferals whom I haven’t been able to bring to the vet for a recheck. I do know that they eat this enthusiastically. I have tried several other organic foods as well as the fairly good grocery store brand that my other cats eat, but none was as popular as this. Like any food, some cats will love it and some will hate it. They have preferences too! It does stink to us but they think it smells quite good.
As most of the other reviewers have mentioned, this food does have a stronger odor than the other Simply Nourish formulas. That being said, I would gladly have the smell 1000 times stronger, because my cats are doing so well. We have 4 cats, all at various ages and special needs. 2 are ideal weight, and 2 are (were) overweight. The first time we brought home the salmon recipe, they did NOT like it. They kept looking at us, as if they were asking where their beloved Turkey formula went! We didn't give in, and in a few days they all were eating normally, besides the fact they eat much less of this formula! The chunky cats are running around with more energy, and have noticeably lost weight. The healthy weight girls are thriving as well, all of their coats are shinier and they all have less dander and are shedding less. I would highly recommend trying this formula for overweight cats. They could turn up their nose at first, but if they get hungry enough they will learn to love it. I don't know what we would do if the Salmon formula was ever discontinued! From my husband and our 4 cats, we thank you!
I have a 3 year old kitty with tons of energy and she is a freak about this food! She has never been so persistent about making sure I have enough food in her bowl until I got this food. I keep the food in a air tight container, otherwise my cat would tear open the bag; even if her bowl is full. This food is decently priced for fabulous quality. Finally a dry cat food with great ingredients. People don't understand corn product is not good! I recommend Simply Nourish to everyone. If your cat doesn't like salmon & sweet potato, they should try another. Lots to love!
I bought this for our cat who is having tummy troubles. We have two cats and neither cat would touch it! The ingredients look wholesome and I was hoping they would eat it, but I am going to try another Simply nourish flavor. The price is decent compared to other higher quality cat foods, and if my kitties will eat a different flavor, I will continue to purchase. I'm giving it a 4 star because I realize that it may just be that my kitties are pickyand because I agree with other commentors that the smell is a little overwhelming (possibly why my cats won't go near it?)
Originally, my cat was eating Authority Sensitive Solutions. After that she was introduced to Nutro that was on sale for half off at the time. After a while, she quit eating dry food. I was feeding her tuna for a day or two before I could get to the closest PetSmart. I came across this bag while looking around, and figured why not? It's limited ingredient, salmon (her favorite) and it looked promising. I got home and opened up the bag. Okay, it does smell pretty strong, but not bad. It sort of smells like fish food, but that's better than smelling like McDonald's like some cat foods do. She came running, up her scratch post, on to where her bowl is and started meowing and trying to headbutt my hand away. She loves this food more than anything I've ever given her. It's been about 4 or 5 days that she's been on it and she's looking healthier than ever. This is miracle food for a very picky cat. She's much more active and seems 10x happier. I think it's helped heal a recent leg injury, considering for a week she was limping and now she's walking almost perfectly. That was 2 days ago that she started walking better. I'm planning on putting my mutts on Simply Nourish soon.
I have a 4 year old spayed female rescue. For the past year we have been trying to get an allergic skin condition under control. Turns out it has two different causes. One is her food. I switched her to the salmon and sweet potato formula and saw an immediate change in her behavior and soon in her skin condition. True, the food does have a strong odor, but it's worth it to see her feeling so much better!
