"I watched the DVD twice and read the instructions three times. I carefully fitted the Gentle Leader on my 2 year old lab. The first day, no problem. He walked great, and no more choke chain! However it didn't last. Pretty soon he started trying to rub it off. I made sure it was fitted correctly, gave him a snack whenever I put it on him...and he just plain hated it. I think it works on some dogs, and on others it just doesn't work. It's a great idea, but my dog couldn't stand it. If your dog pulls on the leash, try a harness instead of this!"

"I am giving the Gentle Leader 2 stars because it did not work for my dog. The product was made well and I had no problems with that aspect. My dog simply could not stand having it on her face; she would rub her face on anything she could which was not good. I found that training harnesses worked much better for my dalmatian."

"I have 7 month old Golden Retriever who was having issues with learning to walk on a leash. The Gental Leader is great. He picked it up so quick and its actually enjoyable to walk him now. I didn't think it would be possible for him to learn so quickly but he did!! It is well worth the money!"

"I have a 72 pound lab pit mix that just would not walk well! Every time we went for a walk there was whining, tripping and very near crying on my part as my dog stormed down the road. It became a saftey hazard when she would pull so hard that I would let go of the leash and she, of course, would dart into oncoming traffic. I have tried choke chains, pronged choke chains, harnesses everything. Only this product works. She had difficulty at first with it being around her nose but I am happy to say its been 3 weeks and she is the best walker ever!!! Will cure even the worst walkers!!! Try it!"

"I have had an awful time going on walks with my yellow lab. She always pulls me, ends up choking herself, and our walks typically last 5 minutes because of it. I heard good things about this product so I decided to try it out. It is a lifesaver!! It took her a little getting used to at first, she tried to paw it off, but after about 5-10 minutes she was ok with it. I took her for her first long walk since I've had her (almost 1 year). She did not pull once and was able to just walk with me. The only problem I had was a couple times she switched sides on me and the strap that goes around her muzzle ended up around her neck. Other than that, it worked wonders. I'd recommend this to anyone who is having any leash/walking problems with their dog."

"my petsmart dog trainer actually was the one who suggested this to me for my 5 month old golden retriever because he pulls and jumps. it helps with both and he is starting to not jump or pull even without the product. though i still use it in public. great product!"

Clip doesn't work,

"The clip for adjusting the nosepiece is extremely stiff, requiring pliers to make it latch. The manufacturer happily sent me a replacement clip, but alas, I can't get it put together - again too stiff."

"As a horse and dog person, I was happy to find a product that utilizes the same principles as a halter, as I have always thought that controlling the head of a dog made much more sense than yanking on his neck. I have a robust and rambunctious yellow lab pup, that is a breeze to walk with the Gentle Leader. He did fuss at it a bit, but that was because I did not have it adjusted just quite right. Definitely watch the enclosed DVD for fitting directions and do just what they say (and no, the strap is not too tight :-)"

"We have a young and strong Italian Greyhound Sheperd mix she would almost always be pulling on the leash and was very powerful. I purchased the leader because it was recomended at the store it seemed a little expensive and we werent so sure about. The first day we put it on there was no more pulling!!! we are very proud that she is not pulling this product really works. if you doubted it it really worked for us."

"I have a 64 lb. 9 mth old Shep/Rott Mix. I was told by a Petsmart Assoc. that I should try the Gentle Leader. When I put it on my dog he fussed for a while and then when he realized we was going for a walk he calmed down. Before I couldn't walk him because he pulled me so bad that I would make my boyfriend do it. I was amazed at how much control I had over my dog. I even had my boyfriend walk out in front of me and my dog. Usually my dog flips and tries to get to his daddy. Not this time, I was able to make him wait for me. I love this product and also told my mail carrier about it. She said she was going to get one since she saw how my dog behaved in it."

"I would highly recommend this product. I have a 5 year old German Shephard named Bear. The only time he would really pull on his leash was when he saw someone or another animal. I bought the Gentle Leader Collar and put it on him last night. It was a little bit of a struggle getting it on him and he flipped out for about 10 minutes after the collar was on. I have walked him twice since putting the collar on and he is a completley different dog. He is much more calm and at ease now. He also use to be hyper in the house but that has changed to for the better. I love my dog Bear and I love this collar. I will use it from now on. It is the best."

"My 100lb Black Lab is a normal dog who loves to run even though my mom doesnt want to, he pulls her a lot. We used a pincher collar and that thing is just inhumane, it chokes the dog. I went to petsmart and saw this collar and bought it. I went home and took Max out and this collar is phenominal. Ive never seen my dog so calm and relaxed. best part is, it doesnt hurt or bother him."

"I bought this product when my dog was in the puppy classes and it worked wonderfully to stop her pulling on the leash. Now at over 60 pounds, I feel like I've lost the control I used to have. She pulls at the leash and the Gentle Leader rearranges her facial parts. Her eyes look like they're buldging. Another family member has an 85 pound dog and she finds that the product works great. My dog seems to be pulling me a lot so I purchased the Gentle Leader Harness instead."

"Our 5 month old shepard mix is very energetic and loves to pull us through the stores and on the streets. Once we placed the Gentle Leader on him he was no longer pulling and walks very nice for us. It was crucial for us to gain control now before he bacame a large dog. This product gave us the control we needed without harming him or restristing his airway or ability to eat or drink. I recommend this product to anyone with a energetic, excitable dog."

"Charlie is a 4 year old Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier, rescued from the Humane Society 3 years ago. She is a very active puppy (the vet says that's common) Humane school suggested the gentle leader, my son suggested the gentle leader. Without it, Charlie would be pulling my arm out of it's socket and knocking down people we pass when walking. With the gentle leader, she instinctively sits when I stop walking, she only jumps up on employees at PetSmart (she knows they have "cookies"), and tolerates it because she loves me and knows I love her. It is great, I have recommended them to many dog owners (who are also happy with the results)"
