When I got my blue pit puppy he was a little under weight so I was planning to add this to his food so he could gain weight. No matter how I gave it to him (by itself, mixed with food, on a treat) he would not take it. Which is surprising because Breezy will eat anything you give him. I even tried putting a few drops on a piece of chicken and he still refused to take. I actually smelled the gel and it smells horrible. GNC needs to stop making this. Save your money and don't buy this!!!

One of my worst purchases ever. This stuff reeked, and my dog HATED IT. I bought this for my Maltese (she has hyper-thyroidism)because it was cheaper than my usual calorie-booster. What a bad idea that turned out to be. As I said, she HATED this stuff;refused to take it. Eventually,I had to(regretfully) force-feed it to her. It not only smelled and tasted awful,it also stained my clothes and her muzzle.(It took 3 whitening baths to get her normal color back.)I will NEVER use this again, nor will I EVER recommend it to someone else. I would give this stuff 0 stars if I could. STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS STUFF AS POSSIBLE!! P.S.,The adult formula isn't any better.

Both my dogs hate this stuff and wont go near it. It smells awful and the consistency is very tacky and thick. My other dogs love the stuff I got at the vet called: Nutri-Cal. I thought it was all the same so I picked a calorie booster at petsmart but they ARE NOT ALL THE SAME. Don't bother getting this one its no good. I have 2 yorkieshire terriers..one is a picky eater the other eats everything.. EXCEPT this stuff. Nutrical, is a nicer consistency, smells pleasant and my dogs actually get excited when they know theyre getting it.. They think its a treat.

I bought this thinking it would be delicious as it says but my dog is disgusted by it. It hasn't done her any good since I can't get her to swallow it.

My sick basset hound absolutely hates this stuff. He has lost lots of weight due to valley fever, so we have to force him to eat it. My two healthy dogs, one will eat almost any treat offered, both won't even give it a lick-taste-test. One smell and they back away. Based on internet research (and customer reviews) I will be looking for Nutrical today.
Funny I searched Nutrial on the Petsmart website and this stuff came up. I'd never seen Nutrical before, so I didn't pay attention to the photo of this stuff. I didn't realize this was a different product until I arrived at Petsmart and read the label. Searching "Nutrical" should NOT bring up this product on Petsmart.com!!

I tried feeding her this paste by itself, then on treat, then in food and she would not go near it. I am currently using one from another chain store and she loves it. I am not sure what in this product but I hope they change the formula or get a few diffrent brands. I love petsmart and I usually find everything I need but this stuff is not good and its a bit pricey.

So far so good..

When we got our new puppy she was still on can food. The process of switching her to dry food is not always successful. I am glad we picked up this product because I know she is still getting the calories she needs. Its still early to tell if its working but she is a high energy, playful, healthy pup so I cant complain.
Most people have commented that puppy wont eat it.. I found that if you put the proper amount of it on some lunch meat and wrap it up the puppy will never even taste it!

like many others on this site i was looking for nutri cal and was told they no longer carry it so I purchased this assuming it was the same thing.
My puppy spit it out. I tried to force her to take it, but she just holds it in her mouth and then spits it out after i put her down or tries to spit it up.
I went to the vet to buy nutri cal and she loves it. Petsmart - you must be getting A LOT of money from GNC to totally replace your whole health section with GNC pet products. They should of done more research and testing on taste before releasing this product.

My dog would not take this stuff willingly. I had to put it at the back of her tongue in order for her to take it. She has gained about 1 pound in the past 3 days, though. 5000 calories is quite a bit for a 9.5 pound dog. It was essential to me to get her to gain weight though, so i will continue using this product even if she cannot stand the taste.

Like everyone else, my puppy wanted nothing to do these vitamins. And after smelling them myself, I didn't blame her. However, my breeder recommended NutriCal (which PetsMart no longer carries) so i bought this brand instead. The ingredients are the same, but im assuming the smell/taste is not. In order for my pup to take them, I ended up putting a little squirt of the vitamins in a piece of deli turkey. I know. She is a spoiled little thing. But i would definitely recommend buying NutriCal from a different pet store unless you somehow disguise the taste of this brand for your dog.

Bought this for a senior foster dog who wasn't eating. She would not touch it. I smelled it and it reeked. I tried giving my dogs a taste. My 6 dogs, crazy about anything edible, wouldn't touch it. Not really so helpful when the dogs won't eat it...

I do a lot of rescue and fostering of puppies and dogs and often need to give them a high caloric supplement in addition to their regular meals. Those of us in the rescue world need and depend on a tasty high quality supplement for our fosters and it is a critical "go to" item if we are handling a sickly or severely underweight dog - which is all too frequent. A good supplement can literally mean life or death in severe cases, especially late at night when you are dealing with a very sick puppy or on a weekend when you can't get to a vet. A very sick puppy can spiral downwards in a matter of hours and a good supplement can help turn things around quickly and give you the time you need to get medical treatment. Unfortunately, the brand I used to use is no longer carried by PetSmart and this product has replaced it. I figured that it would be just as good so I tried it. It has basically the same ingredients as what I used to use. Not one of the 5 dogs and puppies I tried it on would even try this stuff. They would take one sniff and literally back away from it. One of the dogs did eventually take a little lick of it and immediately tried to spit it out. I tried to mix it in with food and had the same result. I should note that 4 of the dogs I tried it on are very treat driven and will eat pretty much anything - but not this stuff. Thank heavens I wasn't dealing with an emergency situation!! It is now in the trash and I will be going elsewhere to purchase some NutriCal. Please, please, bring back NutriCal!
