This bedding is not very good at all. First off its gray, which doesn't make the bottom of the cage look good. It'll look more like a dumpster. If you spot clean your rodent's bathroom every day you cant because you cant see anything. And the bedding gets ROCK HARD and clumpy.... not very comfortable for my Robo. But I gave it 2 stars since it controlled odor for about 3 days and it didn't harm my hamster.

It is not as soft as NameBrand-like product, has an odor, slightly dusty... my rats didn't do well with it because they are very sensitive to dust.

But it is inexpensive, absorbs well and makes an okay-quality pet bedding.

However, I am switching back to NameBrand.

Great for litter box

I purchased this bag because an employee at PetSmart shared that she sees no difference between this bedding and the name brand, other than the price. I bought a large bag for the whole cage, and could not believe I would only get 2 cleanings out of a bag. When I cleaned the cage the first time, I decided to just go ahead and use a fleece throw (works great, just make sure to put old towels under it to soak up the peepee, which goes right through the fleece, and I also put newspaper under the towels--fleece saves money, doesn't smell unless unattended, and looks cute). However, even though I no longer use it for the full cage, I still use it in the litter box and it works great. I don't start to smell until about a week and a half-2 weeks, which is a great time to change out his cage!

I researched all of the paper-based beddings on PetSmart.com and found this one to be the cheapest. All of the reviews made it sound too good to be true. I was planning on getting 3 gerbils and wanted to try this bedding because I do not want any urine odors coming from their tank. I used to use aspen shavings for a chinchilla's litter pan, but I replaced it with CareFresh since the aspen absorbed nothing and made his urine smell even worse. The CareFresh got expensive though. This bedding looks a little different than CareFresh and feels a tiny bit firmer, but it's much softer than woods shavings or other bedding. My gerbils have loved burrowing and digging in it. It does have a funny smell when you first open the bag, but I think it just smells like newspaper ink since it's made of recycled paper. The smell went away in a day. It must be doing an awesome job at absorbing my gerbils urine because it still looks and feels dry. There is absolutely no urine odor coming from their tank either. I will definitely keep using this for my gerbils tank.

Hard & Crusty but At Least It's Safe...

This bedding got aged, hard and crusty in the bag and does not leave a very pretty appearance in the cage due to the gray color... but I would rather have this than Pine or Cedar wood chip bedding.

I didn't have enough $$$ to buy care fresh, so i said I'll just get this. GOOD PRICE. Also the quality is nice for the off brand and almost just as good. But it is still a pretty high price for a small size for my guinea pig. Also urine begins to smell after 3 or 4 days. BUT I DO RECOMMEND THIS!

This really isn't a bad bedding, it's a little hard, but, I haven't had any issue with it making Brisby (My Dumbo Rat) sneeze.
Since it's a little tough to sleep on, I make sure to put a little nesting material in her nest box.

This bedding is amazing!It's keeps my guinea pig's cage clean and smelling good. And other than those wood chip beddings this doesn't come out and stays where you want it to be , in the cage!

I bought this so i would have a cheap start off bedding for my Guinea pig, Elvis. It doesn't smell and wasn't at all damp when i opened the bag like most people said it was. It is a bit messy and i do have to clean up little pieces of it every once and a while but no biggie as long as it makes Elvis happy and its cheap i will continue to buy this bedding for him.

This bedding smells really, really bad. after cleaning my pet's cage and putting all new, fresh, and unsoiled bedding in I noticed a foul odor coming from the cage. it is the bedding. no animal lover would permit their furry friend to live in that stink.

Buying a bag of $20 Carefresh for three hamsters and three rats every week is just a bit too much strain on my wallet. I walked farther down the aisle and looked up to find this reasonably priced and best of all... black bedding! :D It's exactly like Carefresh; soft, my rodents love it, and just a bit dusty, but nothing that irritates them or that I can't deal with. Definitely a great buy that I'll be making again and again. :)

I tried this since it was on sale. I normally buy carefresh. It works the same. The only thing is when i opened the bag it smelled and was damp. I just kept it and let it dry out. I'm happy with it otherwise.

I wanted to get carefresh bedding because that's what I have researched is best for rats, but when I went to buy my rats the lady I was talking to (she was telling me everything I needed for my rats) recommended this product. My rats love it. They can burrow in it and they also bury their food with it which is really cute. I love the price. Great product for the price!

I was intending to buy carefresh but the price was a little out of my range, so I seen this product and I said "why not". I was skeptical to use it because I didn't know how it would be. My hamsters LOVES this bedding, and I am only going to buy this bedding for him now on. When I first put the bedding in his cage, he immediate burrowed in it, and snuggled in it. I love this product, and I would recommend it to anyone, that wants to go a cheaper route.
