First of all when we got and read instructions it said that if your tank was under 79 degrees then the red light would be off if under or over 79 degrees then it will turn red. So we soaked it in the tank for 10 minutes. Then we turned it on and the temp of the tank was 70 and stayed 70 for the next 10 minutes !the light still did not turn on. then we exchanged and tried but this time for 15 minutes and still aint working. Then found out that it "takes time too adapt ". WE WAITED FOR 24 FREAKIN HOURS which is apparently not enough time! This is the worst heater! In fact we had a 5 gallon gallon tank and it was made for over 5 gallons

I bought this heater for my two baby red eared sliders that live in a 10 gallon aquarium *only filled half way* and I'd say it works very well. Iv been monitoring the temperature, and when the temperature reaches about 75 degrees or so the heater turns on. This is the first heater Iv had that actually has worked and maintains the temperature well. Since this heater has not worked for other people some of their problems may have been: (1.Not letting the heater sit in the water for at least 10 minutes so it can adjust to the water temperature (2.Not placing the heater where the water is circulated *(In front of a pump)... (3. Placing the heater in a tank too big for this heater, it is rated for 6 1/2 gallons or so. If you tried all these maybe your device is defective and if not try another product. Hope I helped some! (:

I bought 2 of the 25 watt heaters for both of my two gallon tanks. Each heater only keeps the temperature at 70-71 degrees F. I have measured the temperature in each tank over and over again and have gotten the same results in each of the tanks. Even after a 100% water change the heater takes at least 30 minutes to come back on.
To keep a little warm my fish almost leans on it to get a tiny bit of heat.
I would not recommend this heater.

Says it heats the water to 7 degrees above ambient room temp. Well my room temp is 73 and this heater, although it shuts on and off like it should, it does NOT heat the water above 74 degrees. I bought the 10W since my betta aquarium is only 3 gallons. Do I need to change this to the higher wattage heater?

I've had the 10 watt for about a year and a half now, first in an approximately 4 gallon and now in a 5 gallon tank. I am impressed at the stability of temperature that this little heater is able to maintain. I have never had a problem with it and it keeps a temperature that is comfortable for both my betta and my mystery snail. I also like the little light that tells me its working. I think Marina is a good brand to go with.

Maintains temp at 78 degrees in one gallon tank

I have heard over and over again that the temperature always fluctuates in small tanks, however, I have found that the only way for the temperature to remain consistent is to either keep the tank in a consistently warm room or have the heater near the intake or outtake of a filter. This is what I have always done whether a tank is small or large. This ensures that the warm water is evenly distributed throughout the entire tank. However, most people don't use filters for small tanks, because it takes up more space and the current may be too great for fish such as bettas. I personally break up the current with decorations.
This heater does actually keep my betta's one gallon tank at 78 degrees. The tank is kept in my bedroom on a bookshelf away from drafts. From time to time, we do leave our window slightly open overnight for air and even if our room gets cold, the water temp stays at 78 degrees.

I wish I had bothered to read the other reviews on the site before purchasing -- it appears my experience isn't a fluke like I had first assumed.
I bought the 10 watt heater to keep a 1 gallon Betta tank at a cozy 78 degrees as was advertised. I read the directions, submerged it, waited & turned it on to do it's job.
For whatever reason, the heater never warmed my tank past 72 degrees. Perhaps I didn't submerge it for the full ten minutes as per required in the directions?
So I started over, this time leaving the heater unplugged for a long, extended period. When I plugged it in, the heater managed to put the water at a whole whoppin' 2 degrees warmer. :P
I know it might not seem like a big difference, but the ideal temperatures for Bettas are between 76 and 82 degrees -- not 72-74 degrees. If I invest 20 dollars in a tank heater, I expect to get what I paid for. Time for trip to the pet store...

I bought this product to heat my 2 gallon betta tank. After reading through the reviews I was a bit skeptical, but it soon became apparent that most reviewers were not following the directions at all.
The directions inside the box state that you need to let it sit in the water for at LEAST 30 mins. I did, then I plugged it in and it's been working great ever since. My betta, Stanley, is lively and happy.
Also, many reviewers are stating that it doesn't reach the advertised temperature. However, they fail to realize that it is recommended for tanks UP TO 2.65 gallons. Anything higher may heat the water a little, but definitely not what was advertised. And it shouldn't be used in a bowl. Your fish should never be in a bowl.
This is an excellent heater for mini aquariums and works like a charm if directions are followed.

This Heater works wonderfully, if you know cretain things. Firstly, DO NOT plug it in without having it in the water. It will burn out. It is also a good idea to have it almost completely in the water.
This heater has worked perfectly for me and my Betta, and keeps the tempature at an ideal level. Also, it is nice and compact, and easy to clean.
I hope that this helps!

I have the 10W heater in a 2.5 gallon glass tank for my platy fry / babies. It is really easy to use; easy to set up; and it doesn't take up a ton of room. It sits nicely in the corner and doesn't bother my fry at all. I have had it for a few months now without any problems. It keeps my tank at 78 and I have no problems with temperature fluctuation. The indicator on/off light is great because you know it's working. I should have bought this for my 1.5 gallon Betta tank, but I wasn't sure if the 10W was too much for such a small tank. I'm going to go back to return the Top Fin 7.5W heater and buy this one! It is a little higher in price, but apparently much more worth it!

My house is 65 degrees. I put this heater in my 1 gallon betta bowl (after it didn't work well enough in my 2.5 gallon tank) and it only raised the temperature to 68 degrees. The unit is on (it is slightly warm) but doesn't work nearly well enough. Also, the suction cup on the top doesn't work in a fish bowl, although it worked fine in the flat sided tank. For $18 I expected much better. Now I have to drive all the way back in to town to buy a new heater (from a different brand). Very unhappy with this purchase.

I use the 10 watt Marina heater for my betta and I can tell she is happy and healthy since her water no longer dips below 72 thanks to this heater. It works just as it says. It shuts on and off and maintains a perfect temperature for tropical fish between 72 and 78 no matter what season. Must have product for tropical fish and small tanks. I have this in a one gallon bowl and it works great.

I bought this heater about a few months ago and have noticed at the beginning it worked great and kept the water at 78F. Since then, it has stopped working. I wasted my money hoping this heater would keep working.

Bought at petsmart looking for something to heat my 5 gallon tank at night, since during the day it stays without a heat at around 76F. Followed the instructions and let it "acclimate" to the water for 10 minutes. Waited 4 hours and the thing never even turned on? Maybe i don't need a heater. Or maybe as many of the other reviews suggest, a lot of these come broken out of the box. I will be returning to petsmart tomorrow to return it.

I recently purchased a 5 gallon tank for my new betta along with the 25w Marina Submersible heater. I am new to the fish world. It has been a few days and the temperature will not warm above 74 degrees. It is working because I have seen the light turn on occasionally. My take is if your fish requires a heater, do it right the first time and get the more expensive adjustable heater. It is obvious that the "pre set" temperature can be faulty. I'm returning mine today for something that will get the tank to the proper temperature.

I'm a very satisfied customer. I bought the 10 watt heater for my tropical fish tank. It's been a couple of months now, and still works like a charm. What I love most about it is that it has a unbreakable casing around it, unlike most heaters out there and a very affordable price. I really don't mind not being able to adjust the temp since with this model it's at a constant 78 deg. I'm upgrading from a 1.5 gal to a 10 gallon soon, and I'm buying two 25 watt Marina heaters, instead of another branded 50-watt out there, because I know its reliable. The 10 watt even helped my fish through an episode of Ich, so no complaints here at all.
