The Main Coon is one of the largest cats. Why can't you stock a large bag of feed.

My mainecoons love the large kibble and the only one that seems to make one that is pleasing in taste is Royal Canin. I always have 2 types of dry food down for my 5 cats (4 mainecoons & 1 domestic short hair) and the bowl that seems to get emptied more often is the Royal Canin Mainecoon. My babies give it a big 2 paws up!

We rescued what we believe to be a Maine Coon "mix" cat last spring, and were feeding him the Royal Canin cat food for indoor cats, but he seemed to just swallow the food whole. After some research, we decided to try a small bag of the RC Maine Coon food, and now he chews his food completely before swallowing. He also doesn't seem to be as hungry all the time. We have noticed a HUGE improvement in both his coat and his teeth since he has been eating this food. It is expensive, but we want "Fluffy" to be healthy, and around for a long time!

I had issues with my coon eating too fast; it didn't matter if I restricted the amount I fed her, she would wolf it down and puke it up. The food in the vomit was not even chewed! I talked to my vet and she recommended going with a larger kibble size if I could find a brand that made one. When I switched her to this food, I placed two bowls out, one with taste of the wild (which she had been eating) and maine coon formula. She immediately went to this food totally ignoring the taste of the wild. The best part is she isn't eating fast and throwing it up!
My coon is on the big side, almost 2 years old and weighs 16 lbs, and 29 inches long.
Pros: high quality, digestible, taste
Cons: price, smell

Gabe the magnificent
I have four Maine Coons. Gabriel was my first and he is six years old now. He has been "feasting" on Royal Canin since he could chew; starting with Royal Canin kitten. He is now a gorgeous, all white guy with chartreuse eyes, weighing in at 20 pounds. He has never been sick a day in his life. His sisters are five years old; a beautiful calico paint named Patchouli, and Poppy another beauty. They followed in Gabe's footsteps with Royal Canin. Then about one year ago, Sparky; a classic blue joined us. He is going to be huge like Gabe. I am thankful every day that the people we purchased our kids from told us "nothing but Royal Canin" for our cats. It is worth every penny. Don't trade less expensive food for your cat's health. You will definitely get your money's worth from this great food.

After having spent literally hundreds of $ on feline dental care, I discovered Royal Canin Maine Coon formula for my gentle giants, and have never had another dental issue in 10 years! This kibble is large enough for my beasts to chew properly and slows down ingestion, allowing better food absorbtion and assimilation. Rarely do I see a hairball, and that's only in the spring during the big shedding time. Their coats are magnificent; long and shiny.
Yes, Royal Canin was purchased by Mars - in 2001. I didn't start using this product until 2002 so can't comment on there being a difference in ingredients.
As far as the reviewer claiming that Purina is cheaper - indeed it is. Also has cheaper ingredients (soy protein isolate, brewers dried yeast, dried egg product, dried beet pulp, natural flavor, phosphoric acid, calcium carbonate, whole cranberries, caramel color, dried tomatoes, dried spinach, salt). Cats should never have added salt to their diet, and I have found that mixing dried fruit and vegetables just invites indigestion. I'm not aware of cats eating cranberries or tomatoes in the wild.
All in all, this is the best formula I've found with the large size kibble that Maine Coons need. I would like to find something cleaner and preferably organic, but until manufacturers wake up to the fact that ALL cats need larger kibble for better dental health, we're stuck with this. I also feed lots of raw and canned food, so my cats aren't limited to what is in this product.

Supposedly for Maine Coons, simply based upon size of the pellet??? And then double the price? Give me a break. Check the ingredients and they are the same as similar basic cat foods priced at half or even a third of this. Not impressed. Purina has a brand out without the fillers where the main ingredient is Salmon or Chicken, in a 3.5 lb bag for $8.00.
Pros: taste
Cons: low quality, price

Cloud & Ashlyn
I have been trying to find my 1 year old Maine Coon, Cloud, something with joint care. She is solid and "hefty", and I'm afraid she isn't receiving enough nutrients with her current diet. All of the joint aided dry foods are for senior cats, and I'm not interested in feeding my "kitten" that. It's awesome that not only is it big enough to make her slow down and chew, but it's breed specific, and my big cat can get everything she specifically needs! (I pair this dry food with Wilderness Duck Recipe for extra protein, as she is REALLY active..)

I was told by Pet Food Express that Royal Canin was purchased by Mars (as in the candy) Company, and that they have cheapened the ingredients. So much so that Pet Food Express has refused to carry the food anymore. I don't know what I'm going to do now. My Bengal cat only likes really large kibble, but I don't want to feed him crummy food.

I have a Maine Coon and a Siberian. Both of them love this food and have really shown a marked improvement in their coat and skin.
Pros: like the packaging. seems to keep the food fresh.
Cons: wish they had a larger size bag of food.

Rim Rock
We have found this to be the best dry chow for our Main Coon. He really likes the larger sized pellet and does not eat smaller dry foods (of any brand) nearly as well. We are able to maintain him at a health weight with this food also. We do not have much of a hair ball problem when he eats the Royal Canin Main Coon.- Biggest problem is being able to buy it as an "in stock" anywhere.
