I have two fantail goldies (Sherlock and Watson) from Petsmart and they're the cutest, happiest fish I've ever had. They're very interactive and like to bop around their tank. They're very hardy and I've been able to heal them from multiple ailments, one of which I've heard is usually fatal to fish.
One thing you need to know about goldfish is that they grow big. Fantails should have at the very least a 10 gallon tank. Goldfish also are not very compatible with other fish. They are coldwater fish and are usually too messy for other fish to survive. They also live a long time, so be careful what you're getting into before you buy a goldfish!

I've had my fantail goldfish for about six months. I went to the pet store looking for a betta, but I saw this little guy and he looked just like a typical goldfish. I like all goldfish, but this one looked a lot more natural than the ones with the growths on their heads or the crazy colours. He was little, and orange. I fell in love with him! I kept him in a small container (one gallon+) that my boyfriend had bought for me when I bought a betta in the past, but is now in a 5 gallon tank with a few little friends (a baby ranchu, and 2 little algae eaters) until I can set up my 29 gallon tank which I have already purchased, but is still in the box. This will be set up once my room has been redone. :) For being kept in such a tiny container without a filter, just regular water changes, he has done very well! I would recommend this fish to anyone who wants a hardy goldfish, but wants something a little more fancy than just a common, or feeder goldfish. :)

I have five fancy goldfish (all different colors and all different varieties). I have a red ryukin named Marmalade, a calico telescope fantail named Autumn, a telescope black moor named Ebony, a white ranchu/lionhead named Ivory and a brown oranda named CoCo. I honestly can't say which one I think is the prettiest, they are all gorgeous. I had heard that goldfish shouldn't be kept with tropical fish but the sales person told me cory cats are fine with gold fish so I also have a collection of them, all different varieties just like my goldfish. Three mystery snails round out my community in my 46 gallon fish tank. I know I should have probably stopped at four goldfish in my tank but right now I don't mind cleaning the filter every week and doing a small partial water change every other week to keep the water clean (goldfish are very dirty--their only drawback). I just absolutely love looking at these large and beautiful fish. Tropical fish are beautiful too but the large size, beauty and hardiness of fancy goldfish are hard to beat!

The Fantail I picked out seems perfectly healthy and happy in his new home.
The only thing I would warn about is that I noticed in petsmart that some of these fish may have tails that are uneven or sometimes too long, so it may not be a good idea to place them with other goldfish. You want to make sure they get enough to eat. These do seem to be a little bit awkward in their swimming habits, but they are cute nonetheless!

I love these guys.
Just picked up a little white fantail on Saturday for my desk at work. Named her Larry. She and her Black Moor buddy Pugsley are swimming around, making work much more enjoyable for me.

My name plan had a flaw...

I bought two Calico Fantail Goldfish a little while back. Now, usually when you buy a pair of something, you give the pair corresponding names (like 'Salt' and 'Pepper', 'Tic' and 'Tac', etc.) I, being slightly deranged, named one fish 'Crispy' and the other, 'Fish.' 'Crispy Fish'...yeah.
But it gets worse. Crispy was sick for some reason (from the moment I bought him he was slower to move, etc...:c) and he died suddenly.
So now I have a fish named Fish. There was a flaw in my name plan.
Even with all of this stuff, Fish is a nice fish to have. He doesn't take much care, and he's pretty to look at (my Betta, who lives next-door to Fish, would probably disagree judging by all of the dirty looks he gives him.) He's a good pet to have. His name, though, is a bit embarrassing.
Moral of the story: don't name two pets matching names unless each name will work by itself!

My little goldfish Jeff Vader (It's an Eddie Izzard reference) has been with me for almost 6 years now, and he's still going strong, with no end in sight. :)
He started off as a science project concerning environmental adaptation. Over the course of a year, I adapted him to a brackish/salty water environment. Don't worry, it was done properly, in VERY small amounts at a time, and no harm ever came to him. I expected him to be a fragile little thing, but not only did he survive the adaptation, I slowly adapted him back to pure freshwater again, and he's just fine! He started out quite small, so he was in a 1 gallon tank for a couple years, but I moved him to a 15 gallon, and I'm getting him a friend. :)
He's such a wonderful little creature that I've grown to love; swimming up to the glass when I walk into the room, and it's always entertaining to watch him swim. I consider myself an experienced fishkeeper, also currently having 5 neon tetras, 3 platys, a leopard cory catfish, 2 glofish, and a few ghost shrimp, as well as a betta. Jeff is still probably my favourite. He's such a little trooper!
He doesn't mind having his picture taken, something else I appreciate, and watching him swim just takes my stress away :)
VERY easy to take care of,
It's not hard to vary his diet, just occasionally throw in tiny little pieces of lettuce, or occasionally freeze-dried bloodworms that are usually for my other tank, but he's had regular old floating goldfish flakes for his first few years, and is just fine. I realize I wrote a novel here, but that's how passionate I am about my little goldfish. He's on par with my cat for personality and likeability, but don't even get me started on her... :)

When I got mine he was about half an inch long, he was soo tiny. Now he's about an inch long but he is very active. He's in a 5 and a half gallon tank, will be going into a 20 gallon very soon but in the 5.5 gallon he is very active and fun to watch.

This is the greatest fish I have ever had my fish I named big n' hearty cause he was big from the day I got him he just was fun cause they were able to be taught tricks like he could eat from my hand and could swim through a hoop on command! He has been alive for probably 3-4 years in my tank he died today which was very sad cause he was such a great fish!

After about 3 months of having my three fantail goldfish, two out of three died. The other one is dying. I did nothing wrong. I did every thing I could to keep them alive and healthy. Not very active. Just floats around. Not friendly. Hides behind the plant in the center of the tank. Overall costs alot of money. Loud because of the tank filter and the fish shifting through the gravel. Eats alot. Pain in the neck to clean the tank out. Not a good pet. Recommended: Guinea pigs!
