the title describes this fish, if it remotly resymbles somthing that can be swollowed this fish will try,
this fish has swallowed some 3-4 ich chiclids in my tank, and the fish is a little ove 6 inches,
it unsusefuly tryed to eat my blue crayfish, somthing it only tryed once, boath live in harmony now
they grow at a slowr rate then most catfish,
actuly i had it in a goldfish comunity for a long time, till i changes that over to a small tropical fish comunity
most times if your tank is well feed and healthy you will not see this fish, it hides all the time till their is 0 light what so ever (unless their is a "bit size" fish added), despite its large size it can fit into small caves, and will try so make sure the cave are big enough for it not to get stuck
only recomended for big fish companions

This fish is cooling and likes to be kept in schools of three or more.they are night feeder and you won't be able to see them a lot during the day.overall, you would want to keep this fish if you are a beginning or intermediate fish keeper.

If people would do research

This fish is amazing! Nice pattern, very friendly, BUT, it does hide a lot.
You are supposed to, before buying any fish, do a little more research than what the stores give you. They give you what you need to keep a fish happy, but for extended personality and behavior you have to look.
Catfish are nocturnal.
Naturally, in rivers, they hide under rocks.
Now, I'm a huge fan of catfish, and some cats are really reclusive, some are really active. This one is in-between. It does really well in a community, but will follow your other fish like lost puppies if it doesn't have an Eclipse buddy. This can aggravate other fish, so make sure all of your fish aren't too aggressive.
Also, if you're having issues with wanting to see your fish, take a clear or plastic pipe (large), cut it in half, and press it against the glass, covered with stones or vegetation. It will become a hiding place for skittish fish, and will enable you to see your fish, when hiding during the day. You can do the same with a clay pot, as well.
I do really recommend doing EXTENSIVE research about animals before buying them. If you bought it without doing research, like a responsible pet owner, you can't complain about the animal, because it's not the animal's fault.
I do also suggest keeping at least one daytime fish, possibly a top swimmer, with them, just so that if you do have company, they can enjoy your tank, too.

I have had my Eclipse cat for about three months. He does like to hide but when he comes out he is a blast to watch. He comes out for food and to say hi when I get home. He is active after the room is dimmed in the evening too. His tankmates are two large goldfish and a large black moore. The four of them swim around in a pack and are great buddies. He has never been aggressive toward them. He doesn't like it much when I have to vacuum the gravel and he gets freaked if I rearrange the tank. Im pretty sure he doesn't see well which makes sence since catfish use their wiskers to find food. I might buy him a buddy when I get a bigger tank.

These catfish are very cool and fun to watch when they are out.

I have 4 of these guys in a 155G tank, and all 4 of them grew to over a foot in 6 months. If you're buying this fish, understand that the max size is MUCH larger than 6 inches. It's actual adult size is closer to 14-16 inches(at minimum).

Hi, i bought two of these cool lil guys. i always go to fish/pet stores and never seen them before and i had to get them. wasn't much of a description at the store. iv had them for about a month or so now an they are healthy and more active at night. they are in a 55gal tank along with two Axols, an a few other smaller fish which all get along. i will only recommend these fish if u have a big enough tank and can provide shelter ie: cave , plants, hiding places

I didn't know anything about these catfish before I got them but I have to say they are very interesting. I love mine. I found the trick to being able to see them when they hide (which they always do) is to put clear tubes in the tank (against front glass) & put rocks on top of the tubing. This way they are hiding and you can see them.

A Quality Fish...

This was a cool fish while he was in the tank, but he decided to take his show on the road. It was my fault for trying to cycle a tank with a catfish. This is a nocturnal fish, you will not see it at all during the day. Very sensitive to bad water conditions. If you see this fish during the day on top of the water, something has gone wrong in your tank. This fish gets big and needs lots of plants for cover.

We had three of these fish and had them in a very nice set up clean water good care and maintnace. i bought them in hopes of watching the swim around and be able to enjoy them. but it was an absolute mistake buying these fish because they always hid never came out. you never saw them the only time we seen ours out was early in the morning and when we cleaned the tank out. this highly disapointed me because we spent right at $15 bucks for 3 of them and over $150 on setup and they where a disapointment we gave them to a friend who rasies these fish. my recomendation is do not get any thing with cat fish in the name they only come out at night i made a mistake because i did not reserach these fish.

misleading information

I made the mistake of taking home one of these fish without researching it first. The little info sheet on the tank claimed a maximum size of 6" and peaceful nature.
These fish are more commonly known as sun cats, and they average in the 14" to 16" range. They prefer to be in groups. they eat anything they can fit in their mouth (which is fairly large on a 14" catfish), and they must have someplace to hide(where they will stay until the lights are out).
I was lucky enough to have a 75 gallon tank as his destination, but he died of unknown causes after a month, they only such death in a tank that tested as clean and stable for months.
Pros: attractive pattern, uncommon find
Cons: big fish, eats other fish, nocturnal, fragile, shy, aggresive, shoaling fish
