I recently purchased 6 different sized shells for my hermit crabs. I boiled the shells allowed them to cool and placed them in the tank with my hermit crabs and within minutes I had three shell changes. The little guys are loving their new portable homes :)

The shell selection was very poor and limited. The price is way too high for what you get. The only two shells that weren't broken and that I thought might work ended up being too small.

Wrong Shells

The shells sold in the store almost never are the ones that match the Hermit Crabs sold in the store. The majority of the Hermit Crabs found in the store are Purple Pincers, who prefer Turbo shells. The shells frequently found in the pet store aren't compatible. There would be alot more sales if the turbo's were sold at the store. I buy them online for nearly 2 dollars per shell for banded, jade, spotted and tapestry turbo shells. Or if I am feeling generic going to a craft store for a bag of mixed shells that have some turbos in them. I really like that Petsmart actually tries to take care of their Harmit Crabs at most of their stores and I frequent them often, and am in hopes that one day the store starts selling the shells that the hermit crabs they sell actually will use.

The natural shells are nice, and my crab likes them, but painted shells are awful! You should never give your crab the option of a painted shell!
