I got three of these for $1.30 each. I put them in a three gallon tank, put it seems big enough. The tank also doesn't have a heater, but the fish are okay with that. The only other fish in the tank was a goldfish(which is much bigger than the barbs) but there is no fighting. Overall these are great hardy fish for beginners, like me.

These Fish are hardy little buggers. They prefer to be in groups of 3+. I caution you guys to get no less than 3, they are fin nippers and can become aggressive if not kept in a "PACK" persay

These fish are wonderful to have in a community tank if you have about 3-7 of them. the only problem is, is that if you want to have them full grown is that you would need to buy them full grown which is a lot of $$$$$$$$, about 5-12 dollars a piece. great fish but just to expensive.

Small Fish Big Personality

I've had a number of aquariums over the years, and I'd preferred more aggressive fish like Oscars and African Cichlids. When I set up a new aquarium for my kids, I knew it would have to be a community tank with a number of different fish species. I'd had Zebra Danios and Neon/Rainbow Tetras in the past, but found them lacking in personality. I purchased 7 small Tiger Barbs from my local PetSmart, and have been amazed by the range of behaviors these fish exhibit. Schooling, posturing, chasing, circling, they do a lot more than I'd expected from such a small fish. Although there's a lot of chasing, I'm not seeing any damaged fins. Their fin-nipping tendency rules out having long-finned, slow moving tank mates like Angelfish or fancy guppies, but there are still lots of other compatible fish to choose from. They like to school with the Clown Loaches in the tank, the similar coloration obviously fooling the barbs.

These fish are great for beginners. They are active and very easy to care for. They are also somewhat a schooling fish. The only downside is that they may be semi-aggressive, depending on their environment.

NOT Aggressive!! Nippy!!

Throw out any reviews calling the Tiger Barb an aggressive fish. These little guys are an active, colorful schooling fish prone to nipping! Avoid slow moving or long finned fish in your aquarium and you'll have no problems. Keep them in a sufficient number as they as schooling fish (at least 6).
There are commonly three color variations sold in pet stores: the standard orange/black, albino, and green. So, you have an active schooling fish with LOTS of color!
Other tank mates: Any species of Barbs will normally work with Tiger Barbs. Also Buenos Aires and Serpae (Red Minor) Tetras, fish that have a reputation as fin nippers themselves, work well with Tiger Barbs.

Personally don't like them

I have had one too many experiences with these biting the fins of the fish that I actually care about. I bought these when they were a dollar and had a group of 4 of them. Therefore, they were just in my tank to take up some space. Turns out, they bite the fins of just about any fish that is expensive. They'll leave the cheap gouramis and mollys alone, but bite the fins on anything expensive. I strongly dislike this fish. (personal preferance)

These are great fishes. They like to swim in a school. They can be alone, but will become more aggressive.

Originally I purchased 5 tiger barbs but over the course of the year problems and a small ick breakout has left me with one tiger barb. Instead of becoming shy and reserved like I expected he now dominates the tank. When the other fish see him, I can see them start swimming away, even though three are larger than him, which he usually nips at their tails anyways...

Good Vibrant Fish

These fish are so active. I have a large school and they are constantly up to something. They swim in all areas of my 46 gal tank. They also are such beggars. They know when it is time for dinner and come straight to the front of the tank.
I have never had any issues with bites or injuries. They do nip and chase each other, but they have never caused any real issues. They are vibrant fish and with all the color options, can quickly fill your tank. The only draw back is that you will need to plan your tank carefully. These guys are a little bossy and need to be with tankmates who will stand up to them.

This fish are great, they are very hardy fish. These are some of the first fish I had bought when I first started my tank. They are great for Community tanks even tho they say they are semi-aggresive, but if you get them young they are great.

I now have 4 tiger barbs and they are great. I have a 55 gallon tank with a wide variety of tropical community fish. The barbs do not bother any of them. The first two are now full grown, and I added two more a month ago. No problems. Occasionally they will chase someone out of "their" territory, but no damage. I would recomment them to anyone.

I have one of these in my tank. He is very nice and friendly, and ive never seen him fight. They like to be in groups of fish their type, but mine does well with tetras and any other fish really. He is the fastest in his tank, and like to hang around the plants in his tank. he nomally just follows the other fish. Overall he is a nice fish to have and doesnt do any harm.

I bought two of these fish a week ago and love them. They add color and life to the tank. They are very fast swimmers and keep to themselves mainly. I would however suggest that you have at least a 20 gallon tank with several other fish to compliment them such as Angelfish and African Leaf Fish.
