I bought this fish to start up my 70 gallon tank. It did a great job getting through the high ammonia periods and has more than tripled in size. I bought it at about 1.5 inches and it is currently nearly 5 inches! They get alone well with all other fish, just be cautious when putting a male and a female in one tank. They mate and then the male is agressive towards the female for a couple hours. Other than that they are a very hardy, good looking fish!

I have an ALL MALE tank... Fish people say NEVER to do this... but none of my fish ever fight... all of my (6 MALE) gouramis get along, Im thinking this is because i dont have any females in my tank to fight over? I have 2 opaline gouramis, 2 blue and gold gouramis and 2 dwarf gouramis. I LOVE them!! they have personalities and are very active fish! they get along well with my hatchet fish, my corys, my peacock eel and my Raphael catfish (and of course they never bother my 2 bristle nose plecotomases) I would recommend gouramis to anyone!! they are fun to watch and NOT shy fish, mine are at the front of the tank when its feeding time and are always ALL OVER they dont just stay at the top bottom or center... they literally have used every square inch in my tank! I also have a TON (maybe to many) of plants so this might help too with it being an all male tank... I dunno why all my fish go against what everyone says but i am in love with my tank/fish!

I bought him when he was little which was over a year ago. I love him to death! He has his own personallity and I named him Roy. I loved being able to watch him grow. He has his own little hiding spot that he kicks everyone out of. You can tell when he is happy because he turns really dark blue and when he isn't happy he turns a lighter blue. You can only get one of them or they will fight but just him in a 29 gallon with some little fish is a great setup :)

These fish are very hardy and are not too picky about the water. They make a great starter fish for new tank owners and as test fish for new tanks. The fish prefer to be in pairs but they MUST be close in size otherwise after several days the larger one will for some unknown reason become intent on killing the other. I was actually forced to separate the two of them and eventually return the larger one. It took less than 48 hours for the smaller one to recover from being used as a fish chew toy! Overall great fish for all levels of experience.

I had purchased a Gourami today at about 3 inches long and it was really fascinating how it swam compared to my previous fishes. It swam around for about ten minutes in the middle or top of the tank and i had just realized how long its whiskers or two strings hanging from below his stomach were,I think this is a good choice for beginners. I love this fish.

I got two of these fish a couple days ago to add to my 50 gal tank which only had a bala shark, algea eater and two of the african dwarf frogs. They are gorgeous fish however they are extremely shy and like to hide everytime I come near the tank... I thought maybe it was just because they were new but they are still doing it and its been a couple days. They are beautiful fish and I love watching them when they do come out which is rare. I would recommend getting three or more. Maybe that will bring out their personalities.

this fish goes great with about every fish! I have three and they just chill at the bottom of my 50 gallon, and enjoy picking at the gravel. The chase the mollys from time to time, and the mollys will chase them! haha... very good fish!

This fish looks great under lights and it can live in community or semi-aggressive tanks. The Opaline Gourami is a very durable but good looking fish.

Bully

I bought an opaline gourami, 2 platies, and 2 mollies at the same time. They were all fine together for about 3 weeks. Then my gourami got it self lodged into a small cave on my rock feature, i was able to save it but about 2 days after that, when i turned on the light in the morning i noticed one of my platies was dead and half eaten, and one of my mollies was dying at the bottom. And the next morning (today) i turned their light on and saw that my other mollie is dying and looks all beat up. The 1 remaining platy is scared and cowering in a corner. The gourami has been beating up the other fish at night. NOT A TROPICAL COMMUNITY FISH! should be classified as SEMI-AGGRESSIVE

this fish i have had for 7 years and i think it has grown past the maximumn fish size. I feed it goldfish food and it is 10 inches right now i had to move i to a 75 gallon tank because my 50 gallon tank was to small.
Pros: hardy fish
