Top Fin(r) Amazon Sword Plant

Ornamental, beautiful and leafy, Rosette plants like the Amazon Sword have very short (almost unnoticeable) stem axes, with the leaf stalks uniting at the base of the plant. Rosette plants can be placed in aquariums alone or in groups and require moderate care to ensure healthy growth. Rosettes thrive in soft, mildly acidic water.

This plant is a great one. It is an Amazon sword, and I am keeping it in an 10 gallon tank. Love it.

I bought this plant for my 2 gallon tank, and it has done very well. It is planted in gravel and sprouts 1-2 new leaves per week. Make sure you give it enough light each day, or the leaves will start to turn brown. Some of mine did, so the next time I cleaned out my tank I peeled away the offending leaves and started to give it more light each day. It has not turned brown since. I own 3 platy fish and they do not eat or nibble at my Sword Plant at all- I am pretty pleased with it.

I bought a small Amazon Sword when I planted my 10 gal tank. I had purchased a number of plants and not all did as well. Since it was a new tank growth was very slow to start. Within a month the sword filled almost a quarter of the tank with growth to the top of the tank. I transplanted the sword in the same tank and was amazed by the root system it had produced. The transplant had no effect on the sword. I recently obtained a 55 gal tank. This sword has taken a show place in my new tank and a new small sword has taken it's place in the 10 gal.
The substrate in my tanks is a gravel substrate. I used the liquid fertiliser in the tank for about a month. Now I haven't used it for some time and the plants still seem to thrive. I also have an air pump that is used several hours each day to aerate the water.

So I wanted to add a more natural feel to my aquarium so I decided to buy this plant. I placed it in my tank (when I had gravel) and at first it didn't grow. I went back to Petsmart and bought some sand and once I got rid of the gravel and placed the plant in the sand it just took off. Ive only had it in the sand for about 2 weeks and it already has 7 new leaves and 3 more coming out of the sand.
