Love It:)

First of all....I love my sharks:) and yes that means I have more than 1 shark. Although theyre very territorial, if your tank is large enough, both the sharks could actually provoke more movement making your aquarium more lively. At first i had only 1 rainbow shark and it was all bored laying in 1 place for nearly a month, but after i got a second one (red tailed shark) and although at first they were fighting, both my sharks pretty much got along. They even share the same territory! and theyve been moving around alot more ever since so go buy one!

I actually have 2 of them in my 55 gallon, most people say that you shouldn't do that but, my experience has shown that they focus on each other more than they do on my Tiger Barbs or my other fish, I have a pretty rough tank.
I suggest you get this if you have atleast a 20 gallon imo.

This shark is very good with other fish. I have a 29 gallon tank and he swims with the other fish. Very good shark. He comes up to the surface of the water and let people pet him... Cool shark..!!!

i wanted to add a shark to my tank, and decided to go with the rainbow. He's a dark color with red fins. he is best friends with by black ghost knife and angelicus loach. The three are still babies and can't wait to watch them grow together. they all get along well in my 60 gal semi aggressive tank. i know sharks don't get along well w their own kind, so im glad that he has his buddies to swim around with!

This fish is easily the favorite of my tank(I named him swimmy for some reason), he is a little shy, but he's getting less and less each day. Its fun to watch this guy, he is a little territorial of his alligator skull decoration, but he's really a beautiful fish.

Great algea eater, will come and greet you.

I have a red colored rainbow shark in a 35gallon tall tank at 74.5deg bottom water 76.2deg top water, done up in an atlantis ruin theme, his tank mates are 2 dwarf catfish (otocinclus), 3 swordtails, 2 red wag platies, 5 black phantom tetras, 3 snails, multiple ghost shrimp, and 1 horned pleco. When I added him to the tank I thought at first he was attacking my other fish, but alas he is not. He likes to clean the other fish and the snails as well, also keeps the algea off the plants. He does eat the mini new snails and new ghost shrimp, which helps keep their number in check. For some reason though he doesn't touch the brine shrimp.
I find that they do fine with a daily water cycle of one gallon. You can do this easily, with very little help. All you need is 3 small water pumps that can draw water through bubble plastic tubing, 3 fish tank nets, 1 bag of filter charcoal, 2 never used 5 gallon buckets with lids. To start place both buckets under your tank, fill the first bucket up to 4 1/2 gallons and add your tap water treatment to that bucket. Next place the other bucket next to it and add charcoal to the bottom of the bucket then slowly fill with 2gallons of water, put one pump wrapped in a fish net with tubbing attached in the bucket. Now take both lids and cut a three inch hole in the top, and drill three holes around the lid for tubing and to get the pump cord out. Put one pump with net into a corner of the fish tank and the last one in the first bucket. Take the tubbing from the first bucket and push it down into the gravel of the tank and pin it there with an ornament or a rock. Take the tubing from the tank pump and put it into the second bucket pinned so it is below the charcoal. Next take the tubbing from second bucket and attach it to first bucket so it drains into it. Plug all three plugs into a 24hr timer that has minute intervals set it for sometime in the day for the length of time it takes your pumps to transfer 1 gallon for anything 20gallons to 45gallons, or 2 gallons for anything above 45gallons. Use this method with your normal filter, all additives you have to add should be mixed in with the first bucket instead of the tank directly (stresses the rainbow less that way) and makes cleaning easy. Unplug timer, disconect tubing from buckets, remove pumps from buckets and dump out first bucket, strain out second and repeat, only has to be done once every other month and is much easier on the fish than watercycling, I only clean my tank once every three months, I do a chem test weekly and it comes out great.
Pros:
Great algea eater (all types it would seem)
Seems to be peacefull
Really active
Will come out and greet you at the tank wall
Great coloring
Keeps the number of new adds to the tank down by eating them
Cons:
Can only have one in the tank
Some types can get really big
Keeps the number of new adds to the tank down by eating them (if you like breeding anything)

this is one of the best fish in my tank...even though it is small and it looks like a red tail shark, it does not hide, and it does not hurt the other fish, its not even territorial... i think its just happy to be in a big aquarium..

This is a awsome fish. Totally recommend this fish. Can get aggressive when sized at 3-3.5 inches doesn't always get along with Cory catfish. But will never badly hurt another fish.Have had mine for 2-3 months and I love it, totally recommend it!!!!!

My Rainbow Sharks are Brown and Black. They are also shy and timid around aggressive fish. They are very friendly. One of mine is kind of active and one is very shy and hides a lot.

I just got this fish yesterday and I have to say it's my favorite! I was meaning to get a red-tailed black shark but the store didn't have any when I was there so I got this one instead. They are similar in color and body so there's not much difference there. The only major difference that I can see right now is their size. A red tailed shark will grown to about four inches while this rainbow shark will grow to six. But, that doesn't really matter as I've got a 55 gallon tank. I bought my shark with a four platies and they seem to be getting along alright so far. The shark was chasing one of the platies and kinda nipped on it a little but I'm hoping he will settle down when I get him to his real home. What I mean by real home is I've only got them in a five gallon tank right now. Today or tomorrow they will be in the big tank.
I love to watch the shark swim around. It's body shape is so unlike that of the mollies and unlike any other fish I've kept. It kind of reminds me of the wild Pike we fish for every winter once the lakes are frozen over. The only difference is the color and size. I'm sure this little shark isn't going to grow to nearly three foot long!

this fish is a boss. literary. when my tiger barbs pick on my snail this fish comes along and makes them back off. it is territorial. as in it likes to pick spots to rest and kick back. and as someone else mentioned does not harm any fish. i for sure recommend this fish. i was watching tanked though and they made this aquarium for a kid that looked like a tv. they put a lot of rainbow fish in there. if they fight those that boy may not be to happy later. perhaps the aggressiveness will even out. another problem with that tank though is that it was way to small for those fish. poor job on tanked i have to say. please be smart with this fish if not all. it is quite incredible if you can come to appreciate them.

Just thought I'd post this here.
We (wife and I) bought our Rainbow Shark during a PetSmart sale a while ago.
I had always wanted one but was afraid it would upset our balance or maybe maul some other fish.
Well, I brought him home anyways after reading some reviews.
Turns out that he/she is really just a gentle giant. I couldn't do anything other than recommend these guys to really just about anyone with the gallons to support it.
He gets along with our black moor, our tetras, our frogs, our catfish, and our guppies.
Everyone's easy going and gets along great.
Would rec to just about anyone.

Unlike other fish, this fish has a solid colored body and then different colored tails/fins. This makes it particularly stunning. Sleek and fast, this fish darts around plants and underwater caves. Friendly to other species, you won't have problems with bullying. Nothing's wrong with this fish!

I just got one of these for my B-day, my mom thought they looked cool and I did too so I got one. I though he would be really shy but he was the opposite! He was always going up to my other fish and 'got to know them', he also wasn't mean to fish, he never bit them, he did accidentally bump into one of my fish, but it wasn't his fault. He checked out the tank and didn't hide in my shell but he did check out the inside of it (he seemed to like it in there. Who knows for all I know it might be cozy in there). In all rainbow sharks ROCK!

I just got one of these along with four tiger barbs to go in my 2o gallon tank. My rainbow shark does not bother any of the tiger barbs and the tiger barbs to not bother him/her. He really likes his cave, he spends a lot of his time in it but does come out. He is not aggresive. If you get one make sure it has at least 20 gallons and a cave to call home. When I feed my fish he does not come out to get food, but I guess he eats the food that falls to the ground later in the day. I would recommend this fish to any one with decent fish tank knowledge.
