Great Fish!!

A while back I had quite a few cichlids. I had a few yellows, an electric blue, a few black convicts, and an albino. All of them were very active, and got along pretty well. I even had a rainbow shark with them, and they didn't bother him one bit. My parents also owned numerous cichlids in various breeds and sizes, and they are still my parents' favorite type of fish. Unfortunately, when we moved a couple years ago, we had to take the tanks down and sell the fish. I have just put my tank back up and am planning on buying more of these fun little guys. I highly recommend these fish.

I bought several of these fish, they are brightly colored and better bought in pairs. I have noticed when purchased alone they tend to chase the other fish and nip at fins, when bought in pairs they stay to chasing each other around the tank, not hurting just chasing. They do tend to get aggressive over their chosen areas so they do not do well with passive fish, better with semi aggressive.

Great fishes to have

Last month i got 5 of them. they got along fine and then added more everyweek. I have a 30 gallon tank with 10 African Cichlids, one eack of these...Acei, Red Zebra, Jewel, Demasomi,JacobFreibergi Peacock, Yello Lab, Electric Blue, Kenyi, Auratus & Regular peacock. They are all about 1.5 inches and have been peaceful so far except one of them got a bite of my Jacob's tail. Jewel guy is my favorite since he is more colorful and is growing faster than the others. I need to get a bigger tank once they are about 2". They are cool to watch and almost take food from my hands with lot of splashing.

i bought one of these little guys he seems healthy and very active and colorful he is a tan color. I've had him for about a week and i will be getting at least two more for my aquarium. He is quite small all of them were he's only 1inch. BUT do research before buying one of these guys! have fun

Amazing fish!

I got one of the little yellows ones to add to my multi-fish tank. She's only an inch long right now so I was a little worried that she would get bullied by my Angelfish, but once she was in the tank they all got along really well. She also loves to sleep next to my Pepper Cory Catfish.
While Cichlids can be aggressive and territorial, she isn't at all. She gets along really well with everyone in my tank, both bigger and smaller than her.

Amazing Fun Fish- just do your research b4 buying

I did a huge amount of research before starting an african cichlid tank. I'm still learning but not a beginner when it comes to aquariums. Bought my fish on sale, all juveniles and the same size 1". Got four the first time I went to the store, and even though my tank has been set up for over 4 months, haven't went back to get more just yet. I love watching them dig in the sand, and make their own nooks and caves.
The problem is the generic "Assorted African Cichlids" tag at the store. You don't really know what species they are just that there are some yellow, some blue, maybe an albino. This has caused a problem in my tank because I ended up getting a Red Zebra that has grown 3x the rest of them in no time at all, and now rules the tank.
I also have a poor little Acei that hasn't grown at all in the time I have had him. After a while i thought it was stress, but the other fish haven't grown very much either.
I am considering returning two of these fish and get some more of the same species that are left, and properly stock the tank.

This is an amazing fish that comes from Lake Nyasa and Lake Tanganyika in Africa. They developed from one single ancestor and became thousands of different colors and subspecies.
@NoMoreCichlids
Did you get the right size tank? Maybe they feel stressed or you didn't introduce them to the tank the right way.
You need to add cichlids over time. If you got like 5 cichlids from the same tank on one trip to Petsmart, they may have felt uncomfortable.
You clearly did something wrong.

These fish are just too Aggresive! Even though we bought some that are same size / different colors / had 30 gal tank / etc. like recommended - these fish just seemed too obsessed with beating each other up for territory. We will be exchanging these for a boring / docile fish species today with no hesitation!

Great Fish!

I didn't buy them all at one time but I ended up with 20 eventually. They are very interesting to watch and very smart fish. They know when dinner time is and will swim up to my hand.(caution: you may get wet during feeding time, they always splash me!) I recomend buying them all at once and packing them tight. I started out with 5 but they kept attacking each other so I added more. And for some reason they kept picking on the 2 albino fish I had in the tank. They don't harm algae eaters thought. Anyways, great fish for the expierenced!

Cute little fish! If you get them young and they grow up with other fish besides cichlids they tend to be very friendly. I love having them in my tank! Awesome personalities and never boring!

Very fun fish

My husband got 4 of these fish - 2 yellow, 1 albino, and 1 blue. They are very active and happy fellows. They eat well and definitely have great personalities. They follow me from each end of the tank as far as they can. Recommended very highly.
