I bought one of the short stage of these. It has been in my aquarium for more than 6 months now. It is flourishing. It has built a very complex and dense root system. It stands about 18" from the top of the substrate. It has runners creating more plants coming from the bottom. This plant has been completely submerged since I brought it home and placed it in my aquarium. Out of the 4 plants I bought, all at the same time and same stage in the same aquarium, this one has done the best. As for it being snail free, it is.

Why do they sell these? It is marked semi-aquatic but even though, it still won't grow even in a terrarium. The roots will rot if it sits in water. This is a house plant and you all know how that goes.

This plant is not a aquatic plant. It is a tropical plant. Do not buy this for your aquarium.

It says on the package it can't be submerged, but in reality it can't be in aquariums. maybe in reptile tanks, but not in fish tanks, they just decay and die and mess up your water quality. Nice plant don't get me wrong, but it's not an aquarium plant.

Although this plant claimed to be snail free, after a few days, my aquarium was filled with snails.

Beware: Peacock fern is NOT true aquatic plant

The product is mislabeled. Peacock fern is not a true aquatic plant. If you submerge it in water for a period of time, it will eventually die and mess up your tank. But I think it would be fine if you use it for terrarium tank where it will be keep moisted and away from direct sunlight. I bought one and I ended up using it as house plant :-)

One of my goldfish likes to nibble on its roots. Speaking of its roots if it has small or no roots it does not stay in the rocks/sand long if you have big fish. :) Healthy for your fish though. I have some in all 3 of my fish tanks. :) Sorry if the picture is a little blurry.

Beautiful plant but if purchasing in store, be sure to check the bottom of the container for brown roots. Also check the stems. Of the plants sold in store-we find this one to be the one that most often is "off" or goes "off" quickly in the tank. Roots that fail to take, branches that break off and float, stems that get "fuzzy". May not be a quality issue, just more challenging to keep in good condition on the shelf and/or to establish in a tank to thrive.
