I miss my mali, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a docile, adorable and easy to care for pet. They don't require much more than a salad with a few pieces of fruit every now and then for treats ( Mine LOVED blueberries ) He liked to be out as much as possible and in the summer I used to bring him out to be lazy in the sun, only supervised because when they want to explore they aren't as slow as you would think... Overall a great reptile, especially for beginners.

These are almost never captive bred, so the animal you are buying is most likely a wild caught lizard. Further, the caresheet listed for this species is flat wrong. They don't need fruit, ever. They are mostly dry grass and seed feeders. Look online at various other sites for correct care. Otherwise, they ARE great lizards, and very curious about their surroundings.

My friend has a Mali and he is so cute and he has such a personality. When someone walks into the room he will look at you and just stare until he finally loses interest in you. He doesn't like to be held I'm not sure if it is because he is old or if it because his species just doesn't like to be handled.
Pros: Cute, has a nice personality.
Cons: Doesn't like to be held.

Mali Uromastyx lizards are so adorable. I've had mine for about 6 years. These little guys have a natural chubby-cheeked smiley expression that melts your heart. They don't bite, but prefer not to be handled for long periods of time. They're very easy to care for, as are most desert reptiles. They don't drink water like most creatures. In fact humidity is very bad for them so I usually just lightly mist his veggies a little bit. They are naturally adapted to survive with little to no water and will excrete excess salt from their nostrils in order to retain moisture. This is normal behavior and doesn't mean your Mali is water deprived. They like to dig and this behavior is fun to watch. They are piggies when it comes to eating but their diet is inexpensive. If you want a low-maintenence reptile a Mali is a great choice. Note: If you hold them belly-up they will fall asleep. I don't recommend doing this all the time as they don't tolerate long periods of handling but it's amusing to see every now and then!
Pros: low maintenence, docile, cute
Cons: don't like being handled for a long time
