Get a male parakeet

IF you get a parakeet get a male, (the one with blue in the upper region of the beak.) They are more mellow, more talkative. I had a male parakeet and got him young, (you can tell their age by the stripes on their head. If they have stripes, they are young. If they don't they're at least two years old.) We had Einy for 9 years. He began talking in two weeks of having him! He ended up talking up a blue streak, singing, whistling and walking down the hall after my kids to play! I keep my parakeets always in an open cage (best if their wings are clipped but not necessary.) Get one you won't regret it. But get it young.

my cheep- cheep died yesterday but he was a great pet. he would fly on my shoulder and head whenever I walked in the room. I highly recommend them if u love animals. on the last day of his life he cuddled up to me and died peacefully. Im planning on getting a new one next weds. I miss my parakeet a lot.

Pacific is our family pet who loves to sit on your shoulder, head, or finger. He is very gentle and loves millet. I will warn you do not feed parakeets to much millet it is fattening for them and, they want it all the time! He is quiet most of the time, but he chirps every now and then especially when he hears running water, the microwave, someone on the phone or lots of people talking all at once. We only bought one parakeet because they are more likely to play with you if they do not have another companion. Parakeets are extremely smart and Pacific can alreadly fly to my shoulder and his cage without being asked. Parakeets are very small and you have to be gentle with them. Wing clipping is something that has to be done regularly but I want to tell you, HE CAN STILL FLY PRETTY WELL WITH HIS WINGS CLIPPED. Pacific is well behaved but likes to lightly nip when he does not want to be bothered. We are trying to correct him of that. Also, you cannot use nonstick pans in any part of your house this will KILL THEM!
Pacific is a very picky eater and we haven't gotten him to eat vegetables and fruits yet. I do not know if this is true for all parakeets but keep that in mind. Overall they are easy maintenance but requre fresh water daily and a weekly cage cleaning. Lastly, we chose Pacific because he was not in a cage with 20 other parakeets because we wanted a healthy bird and, they are very good at hiding sickness.

I bought a parakeet yesterday. She's beautiful. When I first brought her home she was terrified, she even bit my finger. After about a couple hours she calmed down and started singing to me. Today, I wen't out and left my music playing softly. When I came home she was the happiest animal I've ever seen. Jumping around the cage in excitement and singing and dancing. (so cute) Even though it's early you can tell she's happy being with me. The level of trust is beginning to flourish and it's awesome. I recommend this pet to anyone who loves animals. Soon they'll lose the title of pet and become your best friend!

Just bought 2 blue parakeets today, and it only took them 3 hours, and one of them is already snacking and working her way to being comftorable. I have to say that Im glad I went with these birds, and petsmart was an awesome place to get them from.

on christmas my mom took me to petsmart to get a fish .when i walked by the birds i stopped and looked at them ,they all flew to the back of the cage exept a lovely blue one i begged my mom to get it and she said yes! his name is bilnky he is sooooooooo cute he is my BFF this bird is a must have!!!!!!!

From what I know, parakeets are wonderful compains! They are social, friendly, and very outgoing! If you plan to have company, be prepared for your new pet to show its self off!
Pro's: Friendly, loving pets, beautiful cherp, vibrant colors, sleepy at night ( no squaking) and just a great friend!
Con's: A little noisy ( during day), may be messy, needs lots of attention, and is RECOMENDED ( Doesn't have to be) to be paired with another parakeet.

When I purchaced my new best friend, I went home satified, purchasing a bird from pet smart is a great idea! Happy shopping!

budgie parakeets are amazing pets you may not believe this but mine learned the command step up in 2 days!!! i am going to tell you this very rarely happens if the bird is not hand tamed. if you get a pet bird from a pet store they are not going to be hand tamed. if you will not spend a lot of time with your parakeet get a pair (2)!!!they are wonderful pets!

I got my first Blue Parakeet Sunnii here at PetSmart. He past away this month at 9 1/2 years old. He was the best little parakeet ever!! He loved to be with me ride on my shoulder...and say many different things!! Some of his fav things to say were: "Mama loves ya" "Give me Kiss", "Kiss Kiss", and "Baby". Sunnii brought so much joy to my life and I am so thankful for the time I had with him!! On 10/19/12 I purchased a new baby blue parakeet I named Bleuu from PetSmart and he is just so wonderful!!! Petsmart is always so friendly and helpful and they keep their parakeets in a clean and safe environment and that's why I choose to buy from them!!! Parakeets are very smart and loving birds..but you must be willing when they are new to take time, love , and patience to train them. They are so worth the time and effort!! Thank you Petsmart for supplying your customers with good heathly birds!! :)

Shy at first, then awesome

When I first got my two parakeets (one blue and one green), I was confused. They were both extremely shy and quiet and didn't move at all. The next day we checked on them, and they were chirping! The birds outside were making a racket and the parakeets had heard them. It was nice to know they had grown comfortable in their cage. The blue one tends to make a lot more noise (we believe she's a female) than the (male) green one, but it's entertaining. It's a lively pet and you won't be dissapointed!
