I purchased this Top Fin divider for my 10 gallon tank so that I could divide it for my male bettas. I took it home and began following the instructions to set it up. While the mesh came rolled, it wasn't too difficult to unroll it to set it up. I did have to cut a few of the blue plastic side pieces in order to get them to fit the mesh.
Once I got it installed in the tank properly, it did fit my 10 gallon well. My fish can't move it, and the gravel helps hold the bottom in place.
The metal clips that hold the top in place are very difficult to put on properly, and once one properly they interfere with how the hood fits. I will be searching for an alternative to the metal clips (perhaps aquarium silicone for the top of the blue pieces) so that my hood can fit properly without gaps.

Bought it for a divided betta tank I needed to set up immediately. Water flow could be better, the side without the filter hardly gets disturbed, but this can be fixed by positioning a filter so half the water falls on each side. It was very difficult to get it to fit in a standard 10 gallon tank. I had to wedge it in diagonally and ended up leaving the top piece off, good thing my girls aren't jumpers!

I purchassed this product yesterday because i have a sick tilapia that was being picked on by my 9 yr old parrot cichlid. I have a standard 55g tank and this worked out perfectly. The material comes rolled in the package but all you have to do is reverse roll it and it'll flatten itself out for the most out. I'm not quite sure of why most people seem to be experiencing so much difficulty. But anyways 5 min later it was put together and in the tank. So far i have not had any issues with it breaking and my fish has been slamming its head into it to try to get through. I will say, it does not appear as if it would do well for small fish. In conclusion this is a great product with a temp fix and would def recomend it.

I love this product it made it easier for me to move my female guppy when she was ready to give birth.I also find that it helps when introducing new fish to my aquarium, My marble angel has been aggressive to new fish but this divider made it more comforting to allow them to accept eachother on a slower bases..At first I wasnt sure about the divider getting it to fit perfectly was somewhat difficult, until i trimmed it to the perfect measurement. Now my female guppy gave birth 2days ago & the (5)babies, are growing quite fast & I dont have to fuss with a breeding net..Thumbs up to Petsmarts Topfin Dividers.

In order for this product to work correctly, it would need to be buried in the rocks at the bottom to keep the divider from moving. Not only is the pastic divider not big enough to reach from side to side of the aquarium, but it also isn't long enough to reach from the bottom to the top. What is even more frustrating is that the plastic edges that give the product stability isn't even the length of the plastic insert. This left it to be very flimsy at the top and bottom of the divider.
After attempting to still use the product, it left a gap of 1/2" on each side of the tank. This was good enough to keep the aggressive fish out of the other half of the tank, but not good enough to keep the smaller non-aggressive from entering, which still imposed the problem.
You also have to consider draining your tank by about 3 inches in order for the top to not be under water. This is a poorly designed product for a 55 gallon, but may work for a smaller tank, since you could cut it down to fit.

I recently got 2 new Oranga Goldfish. They were fine together the first day because I think they were scared but then one started attacking the other, so I first bough them a larger tank to see if they simply needed more space but he still wouldn't quit. So then I bought this tank divider. They get along much better now and can still have fishy conversations across the mesh. Some fish just need their own space.

It is difficult to put in, did not completely cross my standard 55 gallon tank. It kept curling up. If it pops out of the siderails (which it did often), it is nearly impossible to put back in without removing the whole thing.

At first I was so excited to use this product instead of my little baby "Keeper". The babies would now get around 5 gallons of my 35 gallon tank to swim around and have fun! WRONG. Installing it was HORRIBLE. It took me 20 minutes to finally trim it to the right size because the plastic was like permanently rolled up and wouldn't straighten out. Finally my boyfriend saw I was super frustrated so he tried doing it for about half an hour. Finally, he got it in the tank but there were gaps on the sides- I didn't even trim the width but it wasn't wide enough for my 35 gallon tank! I thought for SURE it'd be wide enough- nope. My tank is pretty standard size too. My boyfriend agrees that this is the most annoying product we've ever purchased- and we've bought and built shelves, beds, tables, and much more complex things with NO complaints. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU WANT IT FOR FRY I read a comment on here that someone put a cloth in the open hole so I tried this and one of my average sized guppies got through. :( The ONLY thing this would be good for is keeping bigger fish (full sized mollies) out. And that's WITH the cloth stuck in and after hours of frustration.. Biggest waste of 18$. Save your money. STAY AWAY. STAY VERY FAR AWAY.

The way the company has packed it makes it so hard to work with. I cut it and tired to straighten it out to place it in the tank and it always collapsed. So instead of fighting with it I made it into a cylinder and placed the fish into it. See my picture for details

I bought the 10 gallon divider for my baby fish who was attacked by a larger adult, so I had to separate her. The assembly was easy. When I tried putting it together, I felt that on one side, the surface was very jagged and scratchy, which could cause more injury to my fish with long fins. The measurements were not correct either. I measured the width and height of my tank and compared it to the tank divider, but the tank was a little bit smaller, so I'd have to trim it. But when I get it home, the tank divider was SMALLER than my tank. I tried putting it in anyway and water could barely get through the divider. I would not recommend this product at all. Only reason I gave it 2 stars was because I couldn't break it in half...

This is the most difficult thing to put together. 2 hours it took me to completely have no spaces between my tank and the divider. My female betta kept just swimming right through. This involved cutting ALOT. I never ended up using the pins that hold it to the tank. But I will say once it's snug and fit. It works like a charm. My male and female betta's are safely seperated. Even though she still tries to find ways into his divided area.

I got the 10 Gallon Tank Divider. You have to be careful with it as it is fragile, especially the plastic screen. The plastic screen comes rolled up which adds to the frustration when piecing together.
I wasn't able to simply plop it into the fish tank; there was some cutting and manipulating to find the perfect size. Once it is in place, it's perfect, although the blue plastic borders stand out a little too much.

I bought this when one of my platies became extremely agressive. I didn't end up using the clips because it wedged so firmly into the tank. I really like how it is see through and like mesh, so the filter still cleans the other side and the fish can see eachother. I was able to reintroduce the platy back in and there were no more problems.
But later, I had a tank with only danios, and the separated preggie one could slip through a small opening in the back.
Overall, it's pretty good, not sure if I'll buy it again.

I bought one of these for my 10 gallon molly fry tank to separate the males from the females. When I first tried to put it together, the warping drove me nuts. I tried to bend it the other way to straighten it, but it snapped right in half! After I moved the young mollies to a 30 gallon, I tried it again, but first I requested and got an in-store tutorial, and I found out that the water straightens the warping. It was assembled for me (that's how kind the PetSmart staff are), and I put it in the molly tank. There was a tiny space in the back where the mollies could pass through, but I sealed it up by wedging some cloth in it. As you are reading this review, my mollies are swimming around happily, separated by this tank divider.

I bought this to section off part of my tank for fry. Silly me didn't pay attention to the dimensions, just that it works for 29-55 gal tanks. Well, my 40 gal is too wide. How much would and extra 6 inches of screen cost so it would fit? Make sure to read the dimensions and not the size tanks they "claim" it fits.

The width of the product was fine. The length was not. By putting it in my 30 gallon tank, it was several inches too short, allowing my large fish access to both sides of the tank. Wouldn't it be better to sell it longer and let the customer trim it if necessary??? My tank is a standard 30 gallon...it's not like it's extra tall or anything. Total waste of my time and money. Extremely disappointed.

Not that hard to set up includes instruction sheet. I had to trim like an inch and a half from the bottom since I use an under gravel filter and the bottom plate takes up space. Its pretty sturdy once you dig the bottom into the gravel.
Also only use for fish Betta size or bigger mine has a tiny gap where the pin goes about 5mm. And my ghost shrimp climbs back and forth like nothing.

If you were planning on using this to separate fish as small as large show guppies or smaller dont waste your time and money. Fish can get thru the sides and you sure wont be able to keep fry away from adult fish.

I have two robo dwarf hammsters, and they recently fought. They live in a tank, so I used the fish divider to divide the tank in 2 so they couldn't hurt eachother... wonderful product! only downside was that it was a little hard on the installation. That is why I gave it a 4. Other than that, I have no complaints :D
