AvoDerm has been a life saver for our dog Max!

I don't normally write reviews, but this product is so excellent that I have to make an exception. Here's the story:
We have a yellow lab named Max who weighs about 90 pounds. Max has suffered from terrible allergy problems since birth. He has scratched and chewed himself raw on many occasions. When the allergies really flare up, it affects his digestion and he has loose stools, etc. These flare-ups usually culminate with a trip to the vet for a steroid shot.
The steroid shot temporarily calms everything down, but then we start the same process again. Max was just miserable for the first five years of his life and the trips to the vet were never less than $250. Needless to say, I've spent many thousands on these temporary treatments.
The vet recommended we start including Benadryl with Max's meals and we go through some allergy panels to determine what Max was allergic to and then try to desensitize him to whatever that was.
The Benadryl was minimally effective, but we kept giving Max three pills with each meal for over five years. It was slightly better than nothing.
The allergy panels would have been expensive and were not guaranteed to be successful. That same treatment is expensive and not overly effective in humans either. I thought there had to be a better way.
I read extensively on the subject and discovered that most pet allergies are food related. Furthermore, the majority of pets with food allergies were most often sensitive to corn and/or wheat.
We had always fed Max a high-quality, premium dog food (the one that advertises it's the food that most vets choose to feed their own dogs). Reading the label, that food contained both corn and wheat
I decided to try an exclusion diet for several weeks and decided on a mix of just rice and fish. My reasoning was that fish is an inexpensive protein and the Omega 3s in the fish oil would be good for his coat. That turned out to be a total disaster. Max had loose stools, diarrhea and was scratching/chewing worse than ever. I had to abandon the exclusion diet.
Reading further, I found that a small minority of pets are sensitive to fish. I then decided to try a premium grain-free food and AvoDerm Lamb and Brown Rice was what I selected. I chose that primarily because it was grain free and also didn't have any fish - it includes flax seed as the source for Omega 3s.
The results were pretty much immediate and unbelievable. Eating nothing but the dry AvoDerm, Max's digestive problems subsided within two weeks. After a month, he no longer scratched or had hives on his skin. We decided that he no longer needed the Benadryl - Max continued to improve even without that.
Fast forward six months and Max is a totally healthy and happy dog and exhibits no signs of the allergies whatsoever. No scratching, no chewing, no discomfort and no Benadryl. The allergies are entirely resolved.
There are a couple of caveats:
AvoDerm healed Max's skin so well that it appears much darker now. When his coat was still thin, the dark skin really showed through and it wasn't so attractive on a groomed and pure-bred yellow lab. It wouldn't be an issue on a chocolate or black lab and it's not an issue on Max now: his coat has gotten so thick and beautiful that it's hard to find his skin underneath it.
Like many enthusiastic eaters, Max had previously been on the green bean diet for weight control. He eventually got bored with eating just the dry AvoDerm. We started mixing a half can of green beans (juice and all) with every meal and that totally solved the problem. Max now goes face down in the bowl and doesn't come up for air until it's empty - about 45 seconds.
In short, AvoDerm has been a life saver for Max and as an added benefit, it's saved me a lot in vet bills. If AvoDerm became unavailable, I don't know what we would do. I recommend this product without reservation - it is truly remarkable.
So, if your pet shows allergies, START by suspecting that it's food related because over half are. Eliminate wheat/corn from the diet and watch for improvement.
As a last note, I cannot conclude whether or not Max is allergic to fish. He could be or it might have been some coincidence with my exclusion diet.
Give AvoDerm a try and I hope you see the same dramatic results as we do.

My husky mix had decided that he would not eat dry dog food unless I added some kind of wet food to it. Now, finally, he eats all his food with nothing added!! He loves it. I love it because I don't have to add extras. It is saving me money!

My rescued girl had been in the public pound 7 months when I rescued her at 10 months old. For the next year we tried every dog food including the vet RX food because we could not stop the loose stools and diarrhea. Her groomer heard our issue and recommend AvoDerm Lamb & Rice. At this point I was willing to try anything. Within a week she had normal stools and loves the food and it is 2 years later without problems. She is a Boxer mix and weighs 60 LBS.
Pros: price, high quality, digestible, taste

I have a Shar-Pei with a histamine allergy which also equates to a fish allergy. Most decent dog foods contain some form of fish or fish oil as a coat conditioner. After LOTS of label reading, it turns out there are only about three dog foods that don't have some form of fish or fish oil in them. Avoderm is one of them. Avoderm contains flax seed and avocados to promote a healthy coat and skin. Avoderm lamb and rice has been a life saver for my girl. She does not scratch herself raw any more and her ears stay clean so we use much less ear meds. My only complaint is that the price keeps going up! I would recommend this dog food for any dog that suffers from allergies.

I've been feeding my dogs Avoderm and they absolutely love it! My 2 year old Chihuahua hates dog foods and never eat it until I introduced her to Avoderm with my new Yorkie/Pomeranian puppy.
It's a really good brand!
It's not too expensive, I recommend the 15 or 30 lb bag. Also if you're a regular customer at Petsmart, you should apply for their card. It's free and you get discounts!

I started feeding this to my Siberian Husky shortly after she started throwing up. I was previously feeding her Kibbles n' Bits and also noticed how she didn't really eat much of it. So, i found this brand and she was all better. The brown rice and lamb formula is perfect for dogs who have sensitive stomachs, which is exactly what she has. Plus, the avocados are perfect for her nice smooth coat.
Pros: perfect for sensitive stomachs
Cons: just a little pricey
