Our 3 years old male pug had horrible skin issues. The causes we evaluated were: environment, food, possible allergies, self-inflicting, etc. His groomer recommended us to change his food to this brand (Royal Canin) and since we did the skin problems have been fading away! no vet visit needed nor medication (which saved us some money).
Pros: high quality, digestible, taste
Cons: price

I thought this would be a good choice since the kibble is specifically designed for a pugs mouth, but as soon as I opened the first bag I noticed how large the kibble is. It's may be a good shape for their type of mouth structure, but the size seems awfully large for the size of dog. Most other small breed dog foods are small than this. I also do not like that it has corn in it. For the price, it seems overpriced for the quality of food that it actually is. My dog would eat it, but begrudgingly. It didn't take long for me to search for something else. There are too many other choices out there that are the same price or less with much better ingredients.
Cons: corn

After owning Pugs for many years, and working closely with Pug and other pet rescues, I see nothing in the ingredient list that is beneficial to Pugs. Generally speaking, Pugs have some unique dietary requirements. If you are serious about your Pugs, pleas...e do not choose a food based on the name alone. Pugs generally do better on foods that contain no grains. But at a minimum, there should be no corn, wheat, glutons, or by-products of any kind. This Pug 25 food has some of these in extremely high quantities. Ingredients are listed by weight. Do you and your dog a favor and actually read the ingredient label. Stay away from these cheap fillers that only serve to cut costs and enhance the otherwise unpalatable taste of the lack of meat. Although this food is expensive, the primary ingredients could be argued as cheap. Corn and Wheat are well known in Pug circles to cause skin allergies and yeast infections. Is your Pug constantly licking it's paws, scratching, or skooching across the floor? Chances are it is probably a reaction to corn and/or wheat. Look for "named" meats and meals high in the list. The more and varied, the better. Grains should be non-existent or in smaller quantities, several down the list, as long as they are NOT corn or wheat. If you look for these things, regardless of the brand you choose, you will undoubtedly save many dollars in vet bills due to avoidable health conditions, especially allergies. You do not have to spend a fortune on high quality foods. There are even some foods at half the price or less that are far superior. Do your homework on unbiased discussion groups, forums, and credible dog food analysis type sites, and go from there. Pugs are great pets, but can have serious health issues at times. many of these issues are easily avoided by a proper diet that replicates what they might actually eat in the wild, which is primarily meat. That's my story and I'm stickin' with it.. thanks for your time and have a nice day..
Pros: none at all
Cons: cheap ingredients known to contribute to allergies, too expensive
