My cat hates to drink from a regular water dish, in-fact he would rather drink out the bathtub after I shower.;-( When we started using the Petmate water fountain, he stopped waking me up at 6am to give him fresh water.... ;-) he loves the constant flow of fresh water….

My cat hates drinking from a dish, but loves drinking from a running faucet. I didn't want to keep a faucet running all day, so I bought this fountain. He drinks from it all the time. It's very quiet unless you let it almost run out of water, but I fill the reservoir every couple of days. It's easy to clean (weekly) and I rinse out/off the filter at the same time and change the filter monthly. As long as you set the reservoir in properly it doesn't leak or overflow, but you do have to be careful to do this as it fits snuggly in to place. We have very hard water in this area so I use bottled water--store brand gallon jugs--because I don't want the little pump to get bogged down with minerals from the tap water. I've had the fountain for about six months and, as long as I keep it clean and with sufficient water, it works quietly--a gentle hum that I can only hear when standing within a couple of feet. This product was money well-spent!

We have four cats and they LOVE drinking from this! They absolutely drink more water because of it and that is so important so we are thrilled! Its quite easy to clean and the sound is kind of soothing like a sound machine... bonus!

My cat definitely drinks more water using this than when she just had a bowl, so this will hopefully keep her healthier. Never had an issue with noise, as it takes a matter of seconds to check the water level, which I would be doing with a bowl, anyway. Never had any problems with overflowing, as the design prevents it. Easy to keep clean, as I rinse out the whole thing weekly as I change the water. I bought a bunch of filters, which is a good thing, as I see they have changed. Mine last a good 90 days, and I see the new ones are only rated for 30 days. As a bonus, it can keep the cat's attention, giving her something else to watch as the moving water reflects on the wall. Hassle-free way to help keep a pet happy and healthy.

I have a German Shepperd/ Rottweiler mix, and she loves her water fountain! It keeps her water fresh and tasty, so she gets plenty to drink all day long. I do, however, recommend that you wash the fountain thoroughly every 2-3 weeks just for hygienic reasons. I haven't had any major problems with the fountain so far, except that finding the filters at my local petsmart is a bit difficult because they never have it in stock, but it's ok, because i could just order them online.

Pros: keeps water fresh, dog loves it

Cons: must be kept clean, hard to find the filters

The filters have to be changed weekly, not monthly, otherwise the whole system gets 'slimy'. Filters get expensive. The whole thing is a real pain to wash. Fountain was overflowing all the time. The reservoir was leaking. It would empty the minute I filled it up and put it back in on the fountain. Don't bother. Just give your pet some nice fresh clean water everyday and save your money.

Disappointed

I bought this because my dog is prone to bladder stones and I thought drinking filtered water would be better for him. First of all my dog drinks a lot so I have to refill the reservoir at least once a day. And, when it gets low, it makes a loud noise, so I'm either forced to refill it or turn it off. Also, any food particles left in or around my dog's mouth after eating gets in the bowl, so I end up have to clean it out every couple of days. It's definitely not worth the money. I should have just bought a water filter pitcher and saved some money and all the hassle!
