Our 2 year old Aussie had attended one and a half training sessions with great results. My husband's health prevented us from completing. The one thing we failed to do was allow her to walk around outside when she was a puppy off leash. As a result, anytime she got free she ran into the woods. The last time it caused a heart attack for my husband so I knew we had to do something. We had the wireless collar for our last Aussie but that is limited to the yard and I like to walk/run for exercise, taking her. My son has used a remote training collar for his lab with great results. However, he paid almost a $1000 for the collar and professional training. My son-in-law came 2 week-ends ago and spent 10 minutes with her with the Petsafe Venture Series Big Dog 1000 yards. From that day forward, we have walked everyday and she has not gotten more than 30 feet away from me! I use the tone only 90% of the time. If I use shock, I have not gone above the 2, and that not more than a few times. Today we went out for the first time with my husband. I forgot to turn the collar on until halfway through the walk and she still followed commands beautifully. Our Jack Russell goes on the walks too and he cannot distract her to get her to run with him. It is an unbelievable product. I only wish I had not been so undecisive for so long. I was trying to decide between the one month boarding training and trying it on my own with the collar. Thanks, Petsafe for an amazing product that is a real value. For us, this was not just about obedience or convienence.

I have a 2 & 1/2 yr old female Pit Bull. She is very friendly but due to the amounts of coyotes, bear and cats that we have frequenting our yard she is always on high alert. Needless to say, she always barks and wants to race to the windows at the slightest of noises. It was amazing, the results from just the first time I used it. It's like she's a totally different dog. I originally bought this one because it was fully rechargeable but, I don't think I'm going to need to even. Either way it was well worth the money.

We used this collar to walk our dog every day. She did great with it's use. She responded to just the beep and it wasn't very often that we had to use the higher mode. I would just just hit the beep sound when on a trail instead of yelling for her and she would come. We also have the wireless pet containment system. It helps to have that system because the beeps are the same, so it didn't require much training.

The problem with the collar is the fact that it is plastic and it has two systems to get it on and off. There is a clip and there is a buckle. I would use the clip and my husband would use the buckle. It easily would come undone if not adjusted just right. If our lab would roll around outside it would come off. And needless to say it was lost on a walk. So I'm looking at buying another one. It would be nice to just buy the collar or the remote and not have to buy them together. It would also be helpful if the collar was made of collar material and not a plastic to keep it longer.

But I'm going to get another, so that says it's a great system!

I have had multiple large breed dogs (mostly Dobermans and Labs) and have never used any type of "correction" collar before, and I was very hesitant to buy one. While my newest Dobie is extremely sweet, friendly, and smart, we have not been having much luck getting the obedience we have easily attained with our other dogs with minimal effort. We never used any type of adversive training with our other dogs other than a water bottle, and they quickly learned to obey. (Our other doberman will get in the bathtub on command and stand there for a bath until you tell her to get out.) Our newest Dobie is by far the friendliest we've had the pleasure to own, but she is also very STUBBORN. We bought the collar about a week ago and have already had AMAZING results. Following the directions in the manual are very important. This is not a "quick fix." It does require time, patience, and consistency on the owner's part. We are keeping it simple and focusing on only 2 behaviors at this point. We started at one as recommended. We had more success with that one behavior in 20 minutes with the collar than we've had in months of trying other things. Now that she seems to have that one, we have moved on to a new one while still correcting the previous behavior (although it it now very infrequent). I was very worried about seeing changes in her personality, but that hasn't been an issue at all. I know even this method will take time, but I'm very confident that we can eliminate the undesired behaviors much quicker than other methods. I really wish we would have gone this route much sooner! By the way, keep your receipt. If it's not a good training tool for your dog, you will know almost immediately and should return it. My dog is just as happy-go-lucky as ever; the only difference is that she is becoming MUCH better behaved. If anything, she is happier and more relaxed because it's helping her understand boundaries much better. :)

our dog would run towards runners and other dogs at the park and would not listen when we called her. we purchased this collar as a training tool. we started with the setting very low...a beep, and then a vibration...would get her attention to come back to us. we only had to use the vibration a couple times before the beep was all she needed. now she doesnt even need it anymore! great tool for training and it DOES NOT hurt the dog...promise! i have a 50 lb pitbull and it worked wonders!!

This trainer has saved my dog's life - I have a Border Collie mix with high prey drive. Her favourite prey being cars, dirt bikes and motor bikes - I tried the remote spray collar and it was excellent for joggers and bicycles but did nothing to deter the chasing of motorized vehicles - the Elite Remote Trainer does! She still needs some work but she is much more wary of cars and motor bikes - I feel certain we will be able to fully train her and not have a big vet bill or worse a death.

More than I expected

I purchased this product on this same date and began using it around 6pm by the time it was charged up. I have a seven month old boxer who can be in a cage for hours if need be without any accidents, the moment you walk her she will do her business then you bring her in the house she will go again with in 30 minutes. This same animal also loves to dig in the back yard even though there is much shade in other places. She will not come when you call most of the time but she does sit like a champ. I used this product and within four hours she will walk like a lady without a leash come when called and hey no accidents. I have a six and a ahlf year old male who I thought was well trained...think I will be adding on the additonal/expandable collar for those trips to the dog beach.

You hit the nail on the head with this product.

Thank you for giving me my house back.

I have a 10mo old, 80lb, male boxer. I like to have him with me when I am outside doing yard work or just hanging out. He also has a bad habit of jumping up on people. A week ago, he took off and ended up about 1/4 mile away before a neighbor helped out.

Upon receiving the collar, he attempted to bolt again. Two buzzes and key came running back. I now only have to use the tone feature (a great feature by the way).

Two Weimaraner

I got two Weim puppies a month apart in age. I couldn't afford to do classes for both of them and with two puppies plus a 4 year old in the house I needed some help. We live in a small two bedroom home in the city, and as you know Weims just want to run. And we also have issues with keeping them out of the bed, as well as jumping on people that came over to visit. Within a week of getting them both collars they were no longer jumping on anyone. Stayed in their beds. We don't have a fence in our yard but with a little coaching I don't have to put them on a leash they run free in the yard. I have had them on them for about 4 months and when I have them off to charge or just to take them off they still listen just as well. GET THIS FOR YOUR PETS IT MAKES YOUR PET LISTEN BETTER, MAKES YOUR LIFE BETTER!!!!!!!

I just purchased this item after a very strong recommendation from a dog owner at the dog park. I have a pitbull mix. I put the collar on her and the shock does not seem to phase her one bit. It is on the highest setting possible. I see her muscles physically moving but when she is in a zone the shock does not take her out of it. We followed the directions to find her level and it didn't work for us. We took her outside to do some basic commands with her and again the shock didn't phase her. I will give this a few more days but it is alot of money to not be effective.

Good potential with some updates

First the good... I was amazed how effective this was. We have a young dog that is easily "Distracted" and have been unable to train as our past dogs . Short story.. It was to the point where we either kept him on a lease or didn't take him out. So he got very little exercise. We couldn't even play frisbee in our own yard.

This thing is AMAZING. He very quickly got it and we were able to let him run around while being able to dissuade him from gettng into trouble by returning to us.

Now some points for improvement.

1. It'd be nice to be able to put it onto a different collar. The plastic buckle design means you have to adjust it every time you put it on. It has a clip, but the clip is UNDER the buckle strap, so you have to undo the buckle anyway. Plus, it's plastic and I hate to loose that much money because it broke.

2. The battery life seems random. Sometimes it lasts for days, sometimes it's dead minutes after I pull it from the charger. I've taken to testing it on myself before I put it on the dog to be sure.

3. The belt clip on the remote is useless, it has such a large gap that it's more of a hook that falls off when you walk. Again, expensive. That means I have to keep it in my pocket. See below.

4. There's no on/off switch or "Safety" on the remote. So if your dog has the unit on and you bump the remote (maybe reaching into your pocket).. whoops. and that minimizes the training effectivness.

5. It's tough to tell if the unit's on. The light flashes every 30-40 seconds, but when it's on a dog whose excited about going outside, that's an eternity. It's easier to turn it off then back on and listen for the sound. Again not easy. The confirmation sound is a nice touch.

Our dog is short haired, so I can't speak to long haired dogs. Actually, in an ideal world, even shorter spike options would be good.

A good device that can be made even better if any of the issues were addressed. They may be acceptable if the unit weren't so expensive.

Just before bed i always take the dog out to go potty. Tonight she sees something outside and bolts out the door. Takes 45 minutes to catch her. This has happened a hand full of times but always taking close to an hour to catch her. Big fan of PetSmarts shock collar.
Yesterday I picked it and tried it out on my boxer Zoey. In 2 minutes time I had the most well behaved dog (inside and outside). My neighbor also has a dog that runs wild outside off the leash. So we tried the collar on his dog and like magic, a 2 minute training session and we had a completely different dog. Best $175 dollars I ever spent. Makes me love my dog even more. Highly recommended.

A Life Saver!!!

The product I have been looking for. I have a 10 month old pit bull mix, she is as sweet as can be however she didn't listen at ALL. As soon as the front door would open, she would bolt out. It would take 30+ minutes to catch her every time. Too many times, she would come extremely close to getting hit by a car. Very scary and frustrating. She would also dig huge holes in my yard.... I tried everything to get her to stop.

I finally did some research and found this product. What a LIFE SAVER!!! It took me less than 24-hours to train her. I only had to use a level one shock a couple of times and a level 2 shock once. I would push tone, then shock. After that, the tone was all she needed, she learned real quick that if she didn't listen, the shock was next. I now push the tone button and she immediately does what she is supposed to. This is the best product ever. I read the entire manual and was very careful to follow the instructions exactly. I would never want to hurt her, I just want her to obey. I can now let her outside to potty without her leash or lead..... she does her business and comes right back in when I call her. We are now at the point where all I have to do is tell her to come, I don't even need the tone. This product is a must have for people with disobedient dogs. I highly recommend it, it is WELL worth the money.

I bought this 3 years ago for my large breed dog. I did not need it for barking but for making sure the dog stayed on the property. I worked amazingly. If you have the time for the first while watching the dog, calling him/her away from their outside boundary and they don't react right away to coming when their called I gave the button a push and instantly my dog turned and came back. Within a week she knew not to go past her point in the yard. I put it on maybe once every few months if she starts to get a little bolder and go out of her boundaries...one push of the button and she is right back. Has kept her safe without any harm to her whatsoever. Now I am training my new puppy with the same collar and it's working just like it did for the first dog. Excellent product.

I have purchased this product twice. Both times, I found the battery life is limited, I have gone through four batteries in two months, battery falls out, battery dead and will not engage consistently. The product works for about a month and then it is all down hill from there. For the money this product is horrible.

My situation is similar to Jofar and EdieofAustin,in fact,it was after reading their reviews that I decided to buy this product. I have a 1yr old very headstrong pit bull/lab mix female.After months of trying the reward/praise method of training,I was seeing minimal results.She seemed to know what I wanted,but chose to ignore my wishes.She only obeyed when she was in the mood to.After only a few training sessions with this collar,it it like I have a different dog.She is very obedient,obeys my every command,walks close by my side without a leash,comes when called,etc. I highly recommend this collar to anyone.It has completely changed my relationship with my dog.I now have a friend and companion instead of a disobediant pain in the neck.

We bought this for our 1yr old doberman puppy 6 mos ago. I was hesitant of buying a shock collar due to my negative views on them. After some research and unsucessful other methods of training we tried i found this remote trainer. I liked the idea of giving a tone first and then shock if needed. Our doberman would run off chasing the deer leaving and is too fast to catch him. The collar works excellent for that and anything else related to training. We give a command with the tone first. Then if needed use level 1 correction. The red double shock feature is nice because if you really need to get his attention that will work. We hardly even have to use the tone anymore much less the shock feature and are very happy with our well trained doberman. Our neighbors are always telling us he is the most well trained dog they know! The secret is this collar!

I purchased the Big Dog Remote trainer Venture Series 1000 yard range 3 weeks ago and I am so happy. My 5 year old Boxer was never off leash outside of our backyard as she just would not listen, never came when called and played "silly bugger" catch me if you can if she ever escaped the house/ yard.

She was familiar with the system as we purchased a PetSafe invisible fence system for our summer cabin previously, so when she heard the beeps on the collar she knew right away to listen to my commands. Just two days after purchase she SSS able to join me on a 20 km trail run and I was assured she would listen and be safe. The pleasure I am now having with her is immense, she can Noe do all the fun things a dog should do - frolic in the ocean, run the trails, criss cross the track while I run.

Instant Miracle Worker

I bought the collar with the 1000 yard range, but otherwise is identical to this one. I achieved instant results. I just adopted my new pup from the humane society last month- she is a lab/border collie mix who was returned to the pound at 7 months of age. Although extremely friendly and loving, she had zero training. when outside, she would run off despite repeated attempts by me to get her to come. I bought this collar as a last ditch attempt to prevent me from returning her to the dog pound, and I am happy to say it was well worth the price! it literally took me minutes to train her to come to me when called and not run off! I've only had to use the correction feature less than a handful of times. if she has any thoughts of disobeying, I sound a warning beep on the collar and she comes running to me with tail wagging (she knows there is a treat waiting for her). I can't say enough about the effectiveness of this collar. It has literally saved my dog, and restored peace to my home! The fact that it is rechargeable is an added bonus- the money saved on batteries alone makes it well worth the price. The buttons are intuitive and the remote is very easy to use, especially when you need to provide a correction quickly. The "2 above" button is also a nice feature- this quickly provides a stronger stimulus when your preset level doesn't quite do the job.
