Listen, I don't think there's a product out there that totally removes pet urine from carpet. Having said that, Nature's Miracle works well at removing the odor and stains. I think it's important to remove the bad carpet and pad, if that's an option, and scour the floor and baseboards.

we have a cat with chronic bladder problems, and we thought we would have to get rid of our sofa and chair. we tried everything and natures miracle was the only thing that worked!

I had a big problem with a cat who had been marking for some time. Although its expensive, this isn't the solution. It requires multiple applications to destroy the urine smell; with every application the fragrance builds up until it is a problem of its own. And the cat still marks.
I would recommend for difficult jobs at least a clearly-market fragrance free product.

This product is especially effective in the laundry.
A half cup added to the wash will destroy all urine, fecal and vomit odors from beding or other washable soiled items. Cat bedding comes out fresh. A spray or splash of it on soiled rugs or flooring deters a repeat offense. Well worth the cost at any price.

We've spent tons of money on Nature's Miracle, every version of their product practically because we were desperate. It is heavily perfumed but often would not take care of the urine smell if you really sniffed at the carpet, and the cats would mark again. We contacted a cat behaviorist and she said this stuff is really diluted and to not waste your money and recommended Anti-icky Poo and Simple Solutions among others. So far we've tried simple solutions with more success and a better smell.

Our cat decided to mark his territory at the front door when we went on vacation. It was awful! I did a lot of searching online but was told by family that this was the best stuff. Bought a gallon and used almost all of it. I missed one spot, but every place I dumped this on smells like nothing ever happened. It says it can take up to 2 weeks for the smell to completely go, but it didn't take that long. I'm about to go back and pick up some more for that spot I missed!

Effectiveness
One of our cats had decided to urinate on our couch. I had some other Natures Miracle product and tried that, but it did not get out the smell. I also shampooed the couch, and the smell was still there. So I went to Petsmart and bought this product. I poured it on and within a few hours the smell was completely gone. I've tried other product in the past trying to get cat urine smell out and I wish I would have had this stuff then. It also has a very pleasant smell.
