Catit Small Water Fountain, November 19, 2009
by Mjtom from , Twin Cities. MN

Pros: it's super quiet., it's super easy to clean., it's super easy to fill., it's half the cost of other products i've tried., it has a two year warranty!, just top the water off daily.
Cons: found nothing i don't like so far.

"I recently purchased this product out of desperation of not being able to get a replacement pump motor (again) for the Dogit I've used for several years for my multible cats.

Wow!

Quiet. Easy to fill. Easy to clean. All the cats, aged 2 to 19, love it.

Did I mention it's really easy to clean and fill.

I bought a second, just to have on hand."

Love this product, hate to have to replace it, November 11, 2009
by threecats1dog from Atlanta, GA

Pros: easy to clean, cost, perfect height
Cons: blue top doesn't fit tightly, sometimes cord gets warm

"Bought this for my elderly cat and he loved it. He immediately started drinking way more than he had been and became so much healthier - bloodwork proved it. Then we got two kittens. For many months they didn't bother the product - they didn't care much for it but didn't do much with it either.

I noticed the blue top wasn't fitting down tight and there's really no way to make it fit tight. The young cats decided it would be fun to pull the top off, which pulls the entire unit apart and makes a huge mess on the floor. There is no way to prevent them from doing this and no way to clip the top down. I am now looking for a replacement.

This product worked great, was easy to fill, easy to clean and was a great height for my elderly cat to drink from. I really hate that the top doesn't fit tight."

Very Nice and Nicely Priced, October 21, 2009
by LizM from Atlanta, GA

Pros: quiet, inexpensive, easy to assemble, efficient

"I just purchased this water fountain from the store after being unable to find the Drinkwell system I had bought four years ago. It is half the price of most of the other systems, which led me to purchase it to try it.
Getting it out of the box was easy and putting it together was as easy as following the directions.
The motor on the fountain looks to be about the same size as the Drinkwell motors so I don't think there's too much difference there between the two brands. However, the filter does seem to be a bit poorly made; I don't know if they make better filters for the system or not.
It looks cheap with its simplistic design, but odds are if you're interested in looks for a pet water fountain you're willing to drop the cash for it.
I was afraid of leaking, but as long as it's not overfilled there's no problem. The red tab design helps a lot to tell you when it's overfilled. It says in the manual that it may leak if you overfill it, so that may be what some other customers experienced.
I'd say for the price it is a very good bargain; it does what it was designed to do and all though it is not as fancy as other waterers, I would definitely recommend it."

BEST I HAVE FOUND!!, September 5, 2009
by Sooz from Florida

Pros: takes up little room, easy to assemble and clean, my cats drink from it!, its elevated!, very quiet unit
Cons: wish we had found this sooner!!!, cats can't drink from it if power goes out

"This would be the 3rd fountain "we" are trying. The first 2 my cats wouldn't drink from. One was the Petmate and the other was the original Catit fresh and clear fountain. It all depends on the cat, of course, which one THEY like. Most cats appear to enjoy drinking from dripping water, ie. the faucet, etc. Mine do not. So if I offer them a fountain where the water is flowing, forget it. That being said, they took to this fountain right away. Both cats have always drank from bowls. One cat likes hers elevated, the other prefers to lay on the floor with a ground level bowl. I want to know that they are drinking as much as possible, and that the water is always fresh. Hence my quest for an automatic fountain. I love that the bowl is elevated !!!which is the healthiest way for an animal to eat/drink. No, it doesn't mimic dripping water like a faucet. My cats wouldn't drink from it if it did. It does attract a bit of interest....the middle bubbles a little. Not so much as to scare off even the most skiddish feline. It is very quiet if filled correcty (just under the rim AFTER it is placed on the floor). And, for me, I don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to assemble or clean it. This is EXTREMELY easy. PLEASE REMEMBER that you MUST keep an extra bowl of water available at all times! As stated, the cats won't be able to drink from this if the power goes out. We are all very very pleased with this purchase! ~>^..^<~""

Mixed Feelings about CatIt Small Fountain, August 16, 2009
by pbnjsmom from Parsippany, NJ

Pros: large water capacity for size, easy to clean, easy for cats to use, filter works well
Cons: easy to overfill/leaks easily, can be noisy at times

"A few months after getting 2 kittens, I got tired of constantly cleaning and refilling their water bowl because there was always cat hair and pieces of food and litter in the bowl. I shopped around for a fountain, but wasn't willing to spend a lot of money, so I bought this one. It was reasonably easy to put together. None of the PetSmart stores near me carry the replacement filters, which is annoying. We have been using the fountain for about 4 months now, and last week the red water level indicator ceased functioning, which makes it extremely easy to overfill the fountain, and it ALWAYS leaks if you put even a drop too much water in. Also, whenever the water level is even a little less than full, the bubbling effect dramatically decreases, and there is very little water available in the dome part. The pump also gets increasingly noisy as the water level decreases, and I often find that when I move the fountain even a tiny bit the noise level changes, sometimes louder, sometimes quieter. I think the noise bothers the cats sometimes, because I notice they move the fountain themselves to get it to be quiet when it is loud. Despite the surprisingly large volume of water the fountain holds, I have to refill it daily with only two cats. It seems to do well without much cleaning, and the filters appear to last a while - longer than the manufacturer says. Filter is pretty effective at filtering out hair, food, and litter particles as well as impurities from tap water. My kitties took to this fountain quickly, and seem to drink a lot more water than they did before, but I think maybe it's time to find a different model that will hold more water and not leak so easily. Overall, I think I got my money's worth out of this one, but will likely need to pay more to get a better product."

I'd recommend for age 4 months and up, August 9, 2009
by TiredMommy from Toronto

"My brother bought this for his 1 year olds because they would only drink running water and were making a mess because they liked to play in the water. This fountain only bubbles at the top and there is no reservoir for kitties to swim in. I've never had a fountain before so I wasn't immediately sold on the idea. But having just lost two older cats over the past 2 years to kidney and bladder problems, I decided to try when I adopted two 4 month-old kittens. I bought the same as him because he was so happy with it. The kittens love it so much that I went back and bought a second as a backup when it was on sale, as did my brother.

Several months later I ended up briefly fostering three 2-month old kittens and the backup was put into use. They had to stand on their hind legs to get to the water and I eventually got them something to stand on so they could drink more effectively. They still weren't drinking enough and I ended up adding a separate free-standing bowl that they ultimately preferred, simply because they just weren't big enough to reach yet.

The older kittens love it and between my brother and I, there have been no leakage or cleaning issues among the 3 we have used. I use a bottle washer to be sure to get into the narrower parts. It's easy to assemble and disassemble and super super quiet. The red water level indicator is great. And best of all, they're both drinking lots of fresh water. My only worry is if the power goes out. I'd love if it had battery backup capability."

Much better than the other Catit Fountain, August 6, 2009
by ctpen from Cuyahoga Falls, OH

Pros: super easy to clean
Cons: a little noisy

"I just bought this small fountain for my cat who will only drink running water or the dog's water. She immediately went to the fountain and starting drinking once I plugged it in.
I did have the other bigger Catit fountain until last month when the motor broke (it lasted almost 4 years) and this smaller fountain was only $10 more than the replacement motor and looked better.
I haven't cleaned the fountain yet, but just rinsing it and putting it back together before filling it up has been MUCH easier than the other bigger fountain. I didn't have to look at the directions multiple times and there were no expletives involved in assembling this fountain--this was not the case with the bigger catit fountain.
I highly recommend this fountain for everyone.
My only complaint is that it's a little louder than the other bigger fountain, but I can live with that and my cat loves it and isn't scared of it at all--so it's not that noisy. Just a nice hum. Also there's a red indicator thingy that tells you when to add water and how much water to add--awesome!"

Perfect for my situation, July 3, 2009
by Howdyboy from Chicago, IL

"Quiet, easy to use and fill, filter works beautifully to keep cat hair and other debris from circulating in the water. I did NOT have any leaking problems. Cat took about two minutes to adjust to his new fountain. (As he had been using another automatic fountain for three years, I was concerned about the transition.)"

Can't beat it for the price, June 20, 2009
by HaloGirl from Rochester, NY

Pros: looks good, keeps water fresh, quiet

"This is 10 times better than a standing bowl of water and not nearly as expensive as other automatic fountains. I like this so much I'm considering buying a second one for another location in the house.

It is taller than I expected and one of our kittens struggled a bit at first (both with the height and the running water), but once he got used to it he was fine. I find the height a positive since it makes it harder for the cats to track litter and other debris into it.

If you're not careful with the assembly or if you overfill it, you can experience leaks, but it's been great for us."

Very easy, June 17, 2009
by klbm from Los Angeles area, CA

"I have been through 2 Petmate Freshflows, and wish I had known about this one. The Petmate #1 was fine, but makes terrible noise when it gets low. The 2nd, replaced because of the slime and buildup that never came off, even with weekly cleanings, always made awful noise, right out of the box, no matter what adjustments. The cat wasn't happy and neither was I. I checked these out online and went to petsmart with the intention of getting the deluxe version. The checker asked me if I had a lot of cats and I told her I just have the one and she is picky (aren't they all). She recommended the smaller version and said it makes no noise and her cat a small dog both like it, plus it's about 1/2 the price. I bought the small one and brought it home. It is much easier to put together than the Petmate and you can't even hear it. When I first turned it on, I thought no way would my cat tolerate water moving that much and was ready to box it up. The cat wandered over to see the box and noticed the new water thing. She walked over, saw the water, and cocked her head several times at it. After about 3 minutes of observation from about 10 inches, she went closer and sat down to watch. A minute or 2 later, she was happily drinking, and she really filled up! I have never seen her like something this fast, ever. The Petmate took at least a day for her to get brave enough to come see. She is 13 and finicky, so I am really excited about this thing. We'll see about durability, but I will buy a 2nd one for back-up since she took to this one so quickly."

by Gabs from Stockton,Ca

Cons: cannot refill too much it will leak, have to refill it a lot., farely large than pictured

"I bought this product too give my cat a better health when she drinks water. Not only did it take a week for her to get used to it, the bowl is too high for her to reach the middle of the fountain. Works great for Large cats. Although I had some cons it's worked good so far and have had no problems."

DOESN'T HOLD WATER, May 24, 2009
by bmwbabe from Albuquerque

Pros: quiet, cheap, easy to set up
Cons: leaky, unreliable

"You might be tempted to buy this product because it costs half as much as other fountains, but don't be fooled. This fountain is built cheaply. I knew it would leak as soon as I took it out of the box, and, lo and behold, it did. I got it set up and running in five minutes, but five minutes later all the water had leaked out. If you wanted to spend some time with it, I'm sure you could make it more leak-proof, but most of us don't have that kind of time. Kind of a funky design, too, and it seemed to pump the water unevenly, leading to "burps" of water. And, lastly, my cat didn't like it. And as we all know, cats have the final say."

Stays clean & works quietly, cats adapted quickly, April 4, 2009
by shuggie from New England

"I've been using this fountain for about 2 months for 2 DSH cats. The height is easy for them to drink from, yet it is high enough that it has eliminated a previous problem of the cats dropping food into the water. It is easy to clean, runs quietly and is stable. It's easy to tell when to refill and when it's topped off because the little red button pops up. I use pre-filtered water so I haven't had to replace the fountain filter yet. I felt silly purchsing this, I mean- a fountain for cats? Come on! But it has turned out to be a great little investment. Cats like it, it's easier for me to keep their water clean, and it wasn't too expensive. A win all around. I'll check back later to update about longevity of the product."

Great Fountain, very impressed!, January 24, 2009
by Evboobear from Corpus Christi, TX

"I already have 2 of the Drinkwell Platinum Fountains, and love them, but decided I needed something smaller for the living area. I compared this fountain to the Original Drinkwell and ultimately decided to take the Catit Fountain.
So far, I've had it for alittle over a month with no problems. At first I wasn't too impressed with the bubble action but all 6 cats (and occassionally 7, when I catsit) seem to love it. In fact, I'm having to refill it daily.

Pros:
--Quiet, low hum
--Bubble action attracts the cats and keeps water fresh
--Cats don't have to hunch over to drink water
--Very easy to clean and not time consuming
--Attractive design
--Large water capactity for a smaller fountain
--Water level indicator lets you know when you have filled the fountain to its maximum capacity
--Affordable price

Cons:
--Although it is advertised as a small fountain, I found that its still rather large
--No prefilter, so debris/fur easily clogs the motor & can hinder the bubble action
--The regular filter appears to be made out of cheap material

For the price you pay for this fountain, I highly recommend it :)"

Great water bowl, December 31, 2008
by Mom2Many from Lasa Vegas, NV

Pros: takes less floor space, filter lasts longer, pop-up makes it easy to see when full, stays clean longer, quieter than other fountain-style water bowls

"This "small" drinking fountain works great for my seven cats and two large dogs. There is less mess from this fountain style than from the others I have tried (both prominent brands carried in PetsMart stores) and it is easier to clean & refill than the others.
I need another one or two to keep up with the crowd of animals I have here, but I'll never bother with the other fountain type water bowls again."

Drinking fountain, December 11, 2008
by EMS2000 from NC

Pros: quiet small good design
Cons: none

"This product works well and is designed well. Cat cannot splash water all over the place as mine does with an open bowl type fountain. Easy to clean, very quiet. Wife is thrilled she doesn't have to clean up water splashed out as in previous fountain (open bowl with a pool of water)."

Nothing wrong with this fountain, December 4, 2008
by jlin from Canada

"The previous reviewer must of had a defective fountain. I've had mine for almost a year and it still works great. Both my cats love it. The only thing you have to watch out for is overfilling the water, because it will leak a little if you do.
Don't let one bad review stop you from buying it :-)"
