Slow acclimation, two months use, then pfffftttt..,

"The set up was a bit difficult in my cramped apartment bathroom, and it was impossible to use the toilet set up because I would have had to call a plumber to install it (to cut off the water in the entire building and then turn off the valve). I did manage it with the sink and it started working fine, only my two cats refused to use it for over two weeks although I followed the instructions and their litterbox was absolutely disgusting by that time. The product worked fine for a little over two months (I installed it in mid-July), then got a blockage and stopped working for four days although I carefully followed all of the instructions step-by-step. Now the genie has all four lights on the top lit and does not respond to any commands from the buttons. I have repeatedly tried through email and phone to get in touch with the company customer service but they have not gotten back in touch with me. A real disappointment, as it worked really well and is so much better for the environment than other litters, but not worth the hassle or expense of being on the fritz."

"This is a wonderful product. I have tried littermaid and other litter boxes. This product reccommends that is is good for 1 to 2 cats per unit so scince I have 4 I purchased 2 and have only had one minor difficulty. A part broke in each of them, but my husband contacted them and told them the problem and they sent us the parts we needed for free. We just had to fax over proof of purchase. We can now leave town for a few days and not have to worry about litter piling up as it continuously cleans and dumps into the recepticle which you put a plastic grocery bag in. No more scooping. It is wonderful and the company backs their product up!"

Pros: no more smelly mud room
"yes, it's a little pricey for a litter box, but well worth it, especially considering I no longer have to buy litter and liners. you know that awful feeling when you've looked all over the house for fresh litter, it's 11 pm, and 20 minutes to a store? well no longer a problem! when we first started using the catgenie, it did have a funky smell during the cleaning cycle, but that has gone away. I assumed my 17 year old cat would not like it, but he actually used it before my kitten, who now uses it ,no problem. I highly recommend the Catgenie"

Pros: 1 cat loves it, catgenie cleans itself, 2 year warranty, catgenie customer service is great with helping in, set-up and installation Cons: 1 cat hates the catgenie, cleaning solution smells, when it cycles makes the restroom stink, when it cycles it makes the apartment stink, expensive, was missing a "t" from the package
"I purchased this two months ago for 2 cats of mine. 1 cat loves this thing and doesn't mind doing her business in the catgenie however, yet unfortunately enough...my 2nd cat, hates the catgenie. She will go near it but will not use it to the point that she will do her business outside the room where the catgenie is located. Purchased the cover, rails and mats. Thought maybe the cat that wouldn't use the catgenie was possibly not used to doing her business inside a space, therefore, everthing was removed i.e. mats, side rails and cover. Yup, that didn't work either. So unfortunately, I have only 1 cat that likes using the catgenie and 1 cat that refuses to use the catgenie"

"We purchased the Cat Genie in October 2008. We love it! IT was a little expense but now I know it was worth every penny. No more messey and SMELLY litter box in my laundry room. I love the fact that I can walk in my back hallway and not smell those aweful ordors. My cat loves it too. We schedule the genie to clean twice a day and if an extra flush is needed I just push a botton. Love it!"

"I recently purchased this item and in the beginning my cat was weary of it, but after time he soon warmed up to it. It has such an interesting shape and size that I placed it in my bathroom right next to the toilet! And whenever I have friends and family over that have a cat, they all ask questions and some of them went out to buy their own! So my conclusion to this product is that anyone who has a cat should get this item."

"I became disabled after a stroke, and my husband is in the Air Force and gone frequently. I didn't want to ask my personal care attendant to clean up after my four cats, but was also unwilling to give them up. This NON-litter cat box has justified my keeping my precious companions. We have owned nearly every ‘self-cleaning’ cat box on the market, and this is the best one. Other than the fact that I needed assistance with installing it (because of my disability), it totally takes care of itself. It is incredibly easy to use for both the cats and I. Our oldest cat took some time to adjust to the CatGenie but both our kittens took to it right away. Perfect size, easily fit in the same space as our LitterMaid, and even my son’s giant ‘Panther’ fits in it. It does have a child-lock, which is handy. Very glad we got the hood, and the mat has a unique chevron shape so the cats actually use it instead of jumping over it like they did the spiked or carpeted kinds. This self-flushing cat litter box has been amazing, and has given me the independence to keep my companion cats and care for them without assistance. Any Caregiver for a disabled or elderly loved one should consider investing in one. It has been worth every penny.
What I love: Easy to use. Increased independence for elderly and/or disabled pet owners. No heavy lifting. Cartridges are easy to install, boxes easy to open. The company’s customer service has been top-notch! Lowers risk to those with compromised immune systems (no handling fecal matter or breathing litter dust). Cost effective, surprisingly. With 4 cats we spend less buying the cartridges (in bulk) than we used to spend in litter and liners. No additional deodorizers needed either.
The challenges: You can hear it cleaning. None of my cats were scared by this, but it took me about a month to get used to. Another thing that you do notice is the smell of the dryer, but it smells like cleaning solution which has a nice scent.
IMHO this is the best assistive product for disabled pet owners out on the market! I am so happy with mine. P.S. it really spoils the owner, not the cats - but don't we deserve it?"

"After trying several other types of automatic cat boxes I was pretty skeptical about this one even though my friend was raving about it. She was right, it's absolutely awesome. It takes a few minutes to set up but it's definitely worth it. What I like about the CatGenie, unlike other types of automatic cat boxes, you never have to handle the waste again! All you have to do is change the cleaning solution cartridge when it's out (which it will warn you when it's low, and the tell you when it's out) and occasionally add some new granules up to the fill line. I had it in the bathroom for a few months and the drain tube could get pinched under the seat if you're not careful about placement. The waste left grime in our toilet which, we figured out, was easily solved by having one of those automatic cleaning tablets that go in the tank. Still, we didn't like it there very much because our guest bathroom was kind of small and it was rather awkward when people came to visit. So we moved ours into the laundry room and we love it there. We put a cat door in the laundry room door and pretty much only check it when we do laundry. The cats love always having a clean litter box and the privacy (away from the dog) lol."

"I have FOUR of these and I LOVE not having to worry about buying big heavy bags of litter and cleaning stinky boxes and the dust from the litter that seems to permeate the house. Be forewarned, these machines do not always run 100% perfect, but the company monitors what problems occur and makes parts to resolve them. They usually send these upgrades to you for free. Also, customer service is always available and really nice if you have any problems. Problems are usually resolved from just pushing a few buttons. Soon you will learn what to do if you have a problem and it is SO worth it! I've had these for over two years and they have been on the international markets for over ten so they are not technically brand new. I give this five stars even with the glitches because I LOVE not having to clean litter anymore (and I have five cats). P.S. I have found the laundry room hookup to be the best location."

"I was worried initially because we spent so much money on it and I thought it might just be a piece of junk but it actually works and works well!!! I have two cats, one with a bathroom problem (used litter box, but occasionally eliminates on bathroom rugs and towels left on the floor). It took about a week before they used it and another week after that before I took the TWO litter boxes (gross!) in our tiny apartment away for good! Surprisingly, the cat with the bathroom problem was first to use the cat genie...She has not had an "accident" since I bought the cat genie! Oh my God! I will never have to change a cat box ever again!!! The cleaning cycle is almost like a washing machine cycle, the cats are totally entertained by it, and with the auto time feature, there's nothing to worry about! AMAZING!!! I was at my wits end with my cat. I love her to death, but she needed to learn where to go! I am so relieved and not as stressed as I used to be! And as a bonus, after the cycle is finished, your bathroom smells wonderful(b/c of the sanitation solution), like you just did laundry! I would recommend this to EVERYONE with cats!"
