After purchasing this for my 10 gallon aquarium and not planning to use it with a airstone, I thought the whole point of the decoration would be useless. Turns out I was wrong! The castle has a good sized opening on the lower right-side that acts as a cave, if you do not use the airstone. This provides fish with a cozy spot to hide in if feeling unsafe or insecure. My Zebra Danios LOVE to swim all around the castle, especially under the bridge itself. No, you do NOT need to use a airstone with this product for the effect to be tremendous. This worked in well with my other medieval-like decor. The size is around a foot long, maybe a little less, so trying to fit this into ANY aquarium less than 10 gallons would be a challenge. There ARE a few sharp edges towards the bottom, but covering these with gravel will solve the problem instantly. For anything bigger then a 10-gallon aquarium, and for a more classical feel, I'd recommend this product anytime. Although, I wish the price was lowered somewhat, but because it can work with a airstone, I suspect that to be the reason for the higher-end price.
Pros: durable, stylish
Cons: price
