I love having a clean litter box for my cat but the refills are extremely expensive even when I buy them in bulk. I love the convenience of them though and wouldn't go back to scooping out litter. :(

I truly love this product and the litter box itself. I have used other automatic boxes in the past which end up breaking or failing in some way in a relatively short period of time. This one has lasted me for a long while now without any issues at all. I read through some other reviews and haven't had the same issues. I have two cats and they love it as well. I don't have any problems with leaking or vermin and it only begins to smell after about 2-3 weeks with the 2 cats. On average I change it out after about 2 weeks, occasionally I push it longer. The only thing I dislike about this product is the cost of the refill boxes. I would be much happier with a cost closer to $10 per refill box.
Pros: no smell, ease of use, reliable
Cons: cost of refill boxes

I really like this machine (we have tried other electric boxes also). We have 2 cats so it needs to be changed every 2 weeks. I have found myself putting Glad Press N Seal on the bottom of new trays to prevent any "soak-throughs" as my male cat goes in the same corner all the time & it eventually leaks to the cardboard bottom. Other than that I am very pleased overall with this machine.
Cons: can leak through to the bottom

The cardboard cartridge DOES not last more than 2.5 weeks for my cat and when I was in the store to buy more cartridges I ran into others buying them and struck up a conversation and not a single one of us (3 people ) had the cartridge last more than 2.5 weeks. ! had 2 cats and she uses one cartridge ever 8-10 days-that's $50 per month for 2 cats. Remember NOT lasting means Leaking and whatever is under your Scoopfree rug, wood floor tile grout etc is soaked in cat urine. YUCK

I have had this litter box for 6 mos. and it has been the best automatic litter box I have ever owned. I have previously had the Littermaid automatic boxes that continued to fail after 1 yr. (4 consecutive years). I have 4 cats, 2 go outside, 2 stay inside. I have to change the cartridge once a month, sometimes longer. No smell, nothing to empty. Just close the box when you are changing it and put in the new one and forget it...IT IS WONDERFUL!!! You will definately LOVE this one!!!

I bought this because I absolutely hate the litter box part of having a cat. It works well most of the time. It's a great concept. It could use a lot more work, though. My litterbox starts to become unbearable with stench after about a week. I have two very small kittens. The catridges cost $15 each, but that is way too costly for me to replace every week. I also noticed if I don't replace it weekly, I get roaches in the "poo" part. Now that's nasty! I have decided to go back to a manual litterbox and clean it morning and night. I am going to invest in a "litter locker". At least I won't get infested by vermin! Bottom Line: Unless you have one cat - save your money and get over it.

Expected refills to last longer for the price. Only last 1 week with 4 cats before I need to buy another refill. Tried reusing by emptying and filling with new crystals but this defeats the purpose of the whole idea. Decided to buy a permanent plastic tray called Permascoop and gave up buying these pricey refills.

I love this product! I have 2 cats and a dog and before I got this system, I had to constantly monitor the dog so he wouldn't "grab a snack". Ewwww. No problems with the automatic box! I change it about every 3 weeks with the 2 cats, but that's not a problem. The system is pricey, but well worth the money.

Love this litter very much. I can not stand stinky litter and the crystal formula helps a lot with the oder. I have two cats and if it doesn't get changed in two weeks, then it looks quite nasty and if I were a cat I wouldn't use it... but they still do. The refills are expensive, but if you help spread the litter around every so often it will last you longer.

I am the owner of two indoor cats and I travel frequently for business over night. I have had an electric litter box for a number of years and just recently replaced my old one with my new Scoop Free Litter box. This box is far superior to my old one as it is virtually scent free and super easy to change the cartridge. If you are making a choice to go with a hands free litter box, this is the one.

we have used the refill and works fine! Of course you'll get inventive if you want to save some money, there are another brands of crystals and the solids from the refill can be taken out and use the bag of crystals..but,if you go to too much trouble, why to have the fabulous automatic litter box? The truth is: works just fine, and guess where we have it placed? in the dinning room! no complaints from family members or us...Kitty went to the automatic box immediately and is curious about the 20 minutes later when it scoops the solids...works great, period!

When I was a little girl, we had cats. We had one inside cat, and that was enough to convince me that cats belong outside. I couldn't stand the smell of the litter box. When I got my new cat, I was VERY reluctant to keep him in the house, but he is declawed so outside is not an option. Needless to say, I love the ScoopFree Automatic litter box. It doesnt smell and it ALWAYS works!

Better than Litter Maid

We had a Litter Maid for about a year and it kept clogging up and we had to take it apart and give a thorough cleaning every few months. Also the waste recepticle was very small and we had to replace twice a week. It eventually broke and we bought the Scoopfree Litter box. It's great. We have two cats and it usually lasts 2-3 weeks per tray. Since you replace the entire tray, you never have to clean the litter box! It's easy, clean, and has pretty good odor control. It's the best litter box I've found!

i hate cleaning out litter boxes and i most definetly hate the smell. the litter maid just didnt look too satisfying. so when i saw this product i was thrilled. it was a little pricey and the cartidges are pricey but i think its worth it knowing i dont have to scoop anything or wash the box anymore. i have 1 cat who weighs about 12 lbs. when i was reading the review of that person from CA who has 2 kittens, she said her cartridges only last her a week? that is impossible, i have a cat that weighs more than her 2 kitties combined. and my crazy cat goes numerous times and he has been using his cartridge for 5 weeks now to be exact and i havent had any problem. when i am near the litter i notice the smell but that is if im near it and hello? it has been 5 weeks. so it kind of reminded to me that i need a new one. buying the cartridge from this site only take 7 days for shipping. i just called my local store and they have it. so the 15 bucks a month is sooo totallly worth it. i fnd it helpul to put a plastic underneath the litter/cartridge. dont know if it leaks or anything i just did it to be safe because i have carpets. oh and did i mention i have my cartridge by my dining area? price is soo worth it. although if i had to complain about anything it would be the sensor, i think 20 minutes is too long..the sensor should work 10 seconds after the cat leaves the box. so sometimes when i see it blinking i just press it twice to let it do its work. other than that this product is great...:D

This product is wonderful! Both of my cats were easily switched off the normal litter to the crystals. The condo doesn’t smell bad anymore and the Scoop Free lasted 3 weeks with two cats. I find it is hard to get the refills so remember to get a couple in advance. I can go away for the weekend and not worry about the litter box. Just when I get home I need to sweep some crystals up. I am very happy with this product.

This is the first month I have used this product. I have one cat and it has been wonderful. I have this unit in my laundry room and I have not walked in and smelled urine or anything like I did before with my regular litter box. I have 4 days left before it has been a full 30 days. About a week ago I was showing my youngest how it worked and I got down within a foot of the end of it to press the button and I smelled cat poo. But when I came into the room or was within a few feet of it I didn't smell anything. They probably don't recommend pulling up the end box and cleaning out the solids but I did just because. I think next month I will just let it set and see if I smell anything after the full 30 days.

Unfortunately I have found that the replacement litter boxes are needed every two weeks (for one cat) as compared to the advertised 30 days which makes the cost of the litter box, very expensive, $30 per month as apposed to $8 - $10, for the litter maid brand of automatic litter box.

Sounds dramatic, but it's true. This product changed my life. I'd tried Littermaid but found it messy, smelly and I had to change it way too often. The Scoopfree litterbox system is totally different. I change it once a month and otherwise forget about it. No mess, no smell and changing the litter cartridge is quick and easy with no mess. I'm sure my cat likes it better than Littermaid as well because the litter that comes with Scoopfree kills the odor. The Littermaid one always smelled bad.
