The small door was the perfect size for my mini dachshund to get through and so were the spaces on the sides of the gate! I ended up ordering more pieces for it and rigging them up on the sides to keep him contained. It is not easy to move or take down on a regular basis (when you have guests that don't want to step over it). I would not recommend for high traffic areas. I have replaced it with a different gate that I love!

This gate may work well for small breed adult dogs but it is a dismal failure for small breed puppies. My 10 week old miniature pinscher easily wiggled between the bars and was able to walk through the space between the end bars and the wall like the gate wasn't even there. The bars are too far apart and the gap between the end bars and the wall is way too wide for use with small breed puppies. I've been forced to attach paneling to the gate to block the open spaces. Also this gate is not good for dog breeds that are good jumpers like mine. At 10 weeks he can already jump and reach the top of the gate, in a couple months he'll be able to jump right over. I'm switching to a full size gate.

As far as construction quality goes, it's well made, sturdy, and attaches securely to the wall. So for a limited number of dog breeds, this gate would work great.

Pros: sturdy construction, easy to assemble & install, attaches securely to wall

Cons: bars too far apart, gaps next to walls too wide, needs to be taller

I love the height of this gate because it's easy to step over and my 2 cats can easily jump over it. The only problem with this gate is that my 7 month old, 4 pound, Chihuahua puppy is able to squeeze through the sides which is a major problem! I'm not sure why they would make a gate meant for toy breeds when they can fit right through the bars!

Pros: low height

The Perfect Gate!

We have a Siamese and a Maltese, and we needed to gate up the Maltese during the workday while potty training him. Don't waste your time on any other gate. We went through 3 different pressure-mounted gates that wouldn't stay put because of crown molding along the footing of the apartment (the same situation as shown in the picture).

The unit comes with: the gate frame, 2 of the 6" extensions, and a 4" extension. After you figure out which ones fit in the opening, you extend the screws to pressure mount it. Because of the screws, you can adjust the length of the gate on the top and bottom.

ONE SUGGESTION: DEFINITELY BUY THE 12" EXTENSION!
Otherwise, if you make the screws extend too far out to reach the wall, the puppy can slip through the space! I have a 42" space, and I used the 12" extension instead of one of the ones that came with the unit to make the perfect fit.

Before I purchased this pet gate, I read all the reviews. The main problem that most people had was the gap on either side of the gate. What I ended up doing was buying an extra 12" additional extension. I took the 6" extension out that came with the gate & replaced it with the 12" extension. There are no gaps on either side & now I have the 6" in case I ever need to use it in another location.

Those of you who had the gap problem might want to go ahead and purchase a 12" extension to see if it solves your problem too. I LOVE THIS GATE!!!!

Like another reviewer mentioned, there can be a sizable gap between the last bar of the gate and the wall. After my gate was adjusted, my Chihuahua was able to squeeze through the gap, making it useless as a barrier. I'm going to have to return it.

I have 2 cats and just added a puppy to my household. I wanted to keep the puppy out of the cat's domain (food, litter boxes, toys, etc.) and these gates work perfectly. They're low enough for people to easily step over and for the cats to easily jump over. When puppy is in his crate, the little doors open to allow the cats even easier access. I really like to adjustable ends, as they ensure a secure fit even in areas where moldings are present.

My dog can walk through the ends of this gate. The mounts are extendable which make the length of the bar and wall at the ends wider. I will return because I'm trying to contain my dog. Not have him escape!!

These gates are the perfect thing for use in front of our staircase...My husband fell trying to step over our old one that was sold at a baby store...it was way to high & his foot got caught on the top of it...After buying this gate we have been estatic over the fact that even our grand daughters can easily step over this gate and we don't have to worry about moving it out of the way!!! I recomend this gate with the highest regard!!!! We have two chihuahua's & they are kept down stairs easily & we have no more problems with every one falling over the old to high gate!!!!
