The only bedding I'll ever use!,
January 4, 2010
by JoyH
from Sicklerville, NJ
Pros: easy to clean, no harsh odor, hamster love it Cons: dusty
"My sister, stepsister, and I have had a couple hamsters each in the past few years. We've tried other bedding but they either didn't absorb enough or absorbed so much that it was sticking to the bottom of the cage and the hamsters. This bedding is perfect. It absorbs the perfect amount and can be used for mulitple hamsters. It can be a little dusty so we would put newspaper under the cage before while we changed the bedding. I prefer the aspen over the pine because it doesn't irritate my hamster or me."

"This is the best material for guinea pig bedding I have used. It is a bit more expensive that pine or cedar but it has no health risks to my little furry friend,"

great- AND healthy!!,
September 13, 2009
by DOGandCATandHAMSTERohmy
from MD
Pros: healthy for pet, absorbs pretty well, hamsters love it! Cons: none!
"When i first started getting hamsters i looked for the softest looking bedding possible. But my vet ended up recommending i use Aspen bedding only- its better for animals' respitory systems, AND they love sleeping in it! At first i doubted it- it looked rough and uncomfortable, but now i never even look at the other stuff"

Great Bedding for Chickens,
July 16, 2009
by GermanShepherdOwner
from CT
Pros: absorbent, great for baby chicks Cons: itchy
"My hatchery told me to use pine shavings for my five chicks, but never cedar because of the aromatic oils. I was not sure about aspen, but it seemed okay, and this one had a sticker that said low aromatic oils so I bought it. I was not loving this bedding when I opened it; dusty, made my eyes itch, extremely fine in some pieces (a big no-no for baby chicks, because they may eat it and clog their stomach) and it was so light, it blew away when I blew. Well, the chicks were expected to be here soon, and the petsmart was closed, so I layed down about an inch in my 24" cage (see other reviews) To try to fix it, I put my spray bottle setting to mist, held it about a foot from the bedding and misted over. It helped a little, and the bedding absorbed a little water. Now, I'm happy with the absorbency and quality of the product, just because my chickens seem to do okay with it. One even declared one big mound as HERS! I am satisfied with this product, but at first it is very irritating."

Great Bedding!,
February 18, 2009
by SolemnlySwearImUpToNoGood
from The States
"Aspen is simply fabulous. It is one of the few wood shavings that does not contain toxic oils that from softwoods called "phenols." It's very safe and very inexpensive. I used it for over a year but then I became allergic to it for some odd reason. :( Other than that it's very safe and I would totally recommend it if you don't have bad allergies."

Safest bedding out there!,
December 26, 2008
by Mallory1014
from Illinois
"I can always trust that my gerbils are in good hands with this bedding. This is safe and smells so good. But it's a natural smell so it's not harmful! Unlike pine and cedar which are deadly. This bedding smells faintly like cherries mixed with wood. This looks good, controls odor, and makes their aquarium brighter and friendlier looking. Although it is a little too rough for a nest. But that's an easy fix, I just put some timothy hay and a bunch of toilet paper in their aquarium so they can make a nice comfy nest. It makes the back of my mouth itchy, my eyes water, my nose to run, and my asthma to trigger but I'm willing to do anything to make my gerbils happy. You won't regret buying this bedding."

"It's a great bedding for my hamster, Honey, and she likes it a lot, it could be more absorbent. I have been using this product since about two weeks after I got my hamster, (before I used carefresh, but I developed allergies because of the dustyness) and it's suited me well ever since!"

very good for ratties,
June 17, 2008
by ratsrule
from texas
"i have two rats at the moment and they both love it. i have also used it for hamsters and mice and they all liked it too. it is springy, easy on their feet, and it smells quite nice. it controls odor very well, and it comes in big enough chips that if they are flung out they can easily be picked up or sucked up by a vaccuum or dust buster. i tried carefresh once- it smelled wierd, had NO odor control (i ended up cleaning the cage ALOT more often) and ive heard that its dusty. this is a very good bedding and it is very inexpensive for the amount you get. EXCELLENT."

Great Bedding!,
April 22, 2008
by teddibear1020
from ohio
"I love this bedding and my piggie does too. Compared to pine it has very little smell. What I like is that it is so much softer, fluffier and finer than pine bedding. It looks cozy even to me and my pig seems super comfy. It does have a tendency to cling to hair of long haired critters because it is so light and fluffy. But hey, it has a nice light scent so no big deal it can be brushed off with your hand with no trouble. I kept reading that it is not good for odor control so what I did was layer the coarser cheaper pine underneath and then spread a nice layer of soft aspen on top. Seems to work great. I would totally buy this again!"

Decent Product,
April 12, 2008
by Bunnygrl
from Naperville, IL
"The aspen absorbs fairly well, and the odor isn't strong. My bunnies also seem to like it to, i guess it's comfortable to them. You do have to replace it like daily or everyother day though and it's also really messy (kinda like hay). But over all i think it's a good bedding and i would definitly buy it again!"
