messy kitties, July 31, 2009
by CherylsKitties from Meridian, ID

"I have 4 of these litter boxes and loved them at first. The clean up was a quick process once I got the hang of it. No scooping required. Then my largest cat, (Lucky) started missing the pan, when he tried to BM, he'd dig his hole then back up to the edge and let it rip, what a mess. I tried to rearrange him but he would just get frustrated and leave until I wasn't watching. Again what a stinky mess. The other problem I found was if you put enough litter in to fill the pan, then the cats threw the litter all over the floor as well as any clumps that came before them. If you add less litter they dig down to the sifter and the clumps become stuck, hence not so easy to clean. If the pans were just 3 to 4 inches taller I believe these problems would be solved. Of course I could be wrong. Still searching..."

Clever concept, but sticky and not big enough, June 1, 2009
by ne00 from Cupertino, CA

Pros: clever concept
Cons: not long enough for our kitty, clumps tend to stick to the sifter

"First time cat owner. Stopped by at Pet Smart and picked one of these up after adopting a 6 month old kitty. The concept seemed simple enough. Our kitty actually #2ed outside the litter box as it was too small for her. She #1ed fine, but when cleaning out the litter box this morning, the clumps stuck to the sifting pan. Had to use paper towels to pull off the clump and scrape off the excess clumps."

Almost Perfect, April 4, 2009
by MySoapMarks from Bristol, CT

"This was the second litter box I purchased after a cheap-o starter kit for when my cat was still a kitten. I thought this was fantastic! He used it for about 3 years before it got so scratched up I needed to replace it. There were some problems:

The sifter gets clumps of wet litter stuck in each hole. I had to use an old tooth brush to clean the sifter each time he peed. It was pretty nasty. I stopped using the sifter after a few months and just alternated the 2 bottom trays. When I completely changed the litter, I washed the bottom and poured litter in the other.

The litter guard top level should be a little higher. My cat still kicks litter out of the box. He refuses to use the litter boxes that are completely enclosed, so I bought one with higher sides that seems to do the trick.

This litter box has many pros:

It is fairly cheap. Less than $20 and it has 2 bottom trays, a sifter, and litter guard.

Great idea, but the holes need to be a little smaller so wet litter doesn't linger in holes and clumps that are slightly smaller don't fall through.

After you sift (if you still use that piece) you can replace the sifter on the second tray and pour the litter back into the litter box using the previous bottom piece.

Litter guard works most of the time, but still lets litter escape. Controls the amount, but does not eliminate the spillage."

Good, but very messy with the wrong kind of litter, March 2, 2009
by MySpoiledBaby from Burlington, VT

Pros: good quality
Cons: clumping litter gets stuck in the holes

"The extra edge to it makes it a better litter box than a conventional one. But my male kitty likes to dig and he still kicks litter out all over, even with the higher edge. But that's also because he's very finiky about his litter box so if it's not clean every time he goes in it, he digs...a lot! You would have to use a non-clumping cat litter with this product because it will clump in all the holes if you don't. I put a liner under the sifting tray and use the clumping feline pine litter. It still gets stuck in all of the holes of the sifting tray when wet but when it dries the pieces just fall out when you lift the sifting tray. The feline pine works better this way than traditional clumping cat litter. The clumping clay cat litter would stick awful to the sifting tray and I couldn't get it clean without hosing it down every time I emptied the litter box. I stopped using the sifting tray with it until I switched litters. Overall its a good quality product, mine is a few years old and still looks fairly new. I also like having the sifting tray in place to keep my kitty from tearing through the liner. It's a good litter box, it's just that my kitty digs too much so I'm looking to switch to some sort of covered box."

Pain..., December 17, 2008
by Anonymous from Stoon, SK

"I'd honestly rather scoop, than sit and attempt to get every bit of the cat mess out of the little holes. Mine dig until there's nothing and go to the bathroom, then pile it over, so they end up going, it sticks to the bottom tray and when I flip I have to scrape globs out anyway due to the fact it's all on the other side stuck! It was nice for a while, but started to smell, even after attempting to wash it out of the tiny crevices. I'll stick with scooping!"

"I love this product, however the only thing now is that my cat has outgrown it and I wish there was a jumbo size. In my experience in reading the reviews I was mixed on purchasing this--however, once I purchased it and experimented with the same problems most poster's had, I learned that if you fill the tray with as much litter as possible, you shouldn't have to worry about urine sticking to the screen, unless of course your cat likes to dig 4" or more. As with any cat box, you should always purchase a mat. Overall, it is a great product and I would recommend to anyone that likes a clean cat box."

Quick & Easy to clean, April 30, 2008
by Someguy from Los Angeles, CA

"I got this sifting pan after I got tired of scooping after my 2 cats. Now I don't have to scoop anymore, I simply just lift the frame up and all the waste are seperated from the litter. Best thing about it is that it doesn't break the clump apart like I have to deal with scooping. The only minor problem is that sometimes the urine sinks to the bottom of the frame and the clump get stuck. However I just ignore it and put the litter back on to let it dry itself and usually by the next cleaning session it will be dry enough to fall off the frame. So I always have to make sure I fill the box full with litter otherwise the urine will sink to the bottom of the frame.
Overall it's a good product that makes cleaning alot faster and easier. I no longer have to drag myself to clean the litterbox like I used to when I was still scooping. Now with this sifting pan I can easily clean in a minute."

Love it ~ happy compromise!!, April 23, 2008
by 3KITTY from new york, NY

"I've always use littler liners... but my newest kitty (1 out of 3) insists on tearing & shredding them. I tried no liners & found it disgusting to clean. Since I use baking soda for odors, the urine was caked on the bottom of the pan. So I thought to try this with my usual NON-CLUMPING LITTER.
I can now use the liner for easy cleanup w/o it being in kittys way. Put the liner & backing soda then the sifting tray on top. I scoop daily & then just pull the bag up weekly. I was concerned that I'd now have to clean the sifter but everything falls through nicely with a little tap. And it fits perfectly in my "Cat Washroom" (another great buy!!!)"

Works great, April 20, 2008
by rmmh from Richardson, Tx

"I just recently adopted my first cat and I chose this litter box. So far it has worked great with the FreshStep clumping litter. There haven't really been any problems with the clumps getting stuck on the sifter, all it takes is a little shake over the trash can and its done. The extra bin also makes it extremely easy to replace the sifter and pour the litter back in. Great value, in my opinion."

THE WORST LITTER BOX EVER, April 17, 2008
by NIKKI11 from Blackstone Ma

"I bought this box thinking the idea was great however when it came time to "sift" the litter it was impossible, #1 the holes at the bottom allow too much to fall through that should be trash, #2 the urine clumpped at the bottom of the sifter and hardened and I had to use a sharp object to pry it off in the meantime getting litter EVERYWHERE !!! I ended up taking the sifter part and throwing it in the trash and I am going to try the sifter bags instead and see if they work any better. Horrible product I don't recommend anyone trying it, you will only be wasting your money and not to mention double the cleanup work too !!"

Much better than the LitterMaid, October 7, 2007
by Steffisews from Tampa, FL

"After having owned 3 Littermaids in 6 years we went back to old school technology. Much, much better. Unlike the Littermaid, if something breaks on this one, its not pricy to replace, which with Littermaid, if something breaks and its outside the warranty period, too bad, cause they also do not sell parts. We like this much better."

Waste of Money, June 26, 2007
by KityKity from PA

"I've been scooping for years and I've tried sifting liners, which I like the best so far. I thought this was a great idea for an easy way to clean a litter box, but I was wrong. The "solids" clumped and came out just fine, but the urine clumped and stuck to the sifter. When I tried to scrape and bang the clumps out, it just went everywhere. I had to vacuum after every change. Eventually I just took out the sifter and now I use it as a regular litterbox that I could have gotten for $5, not $20.
Waste of money."

MAKES LIFE EASIER FOR MULTI-CAT HOUSEHOLD, May 7, 2007
by Katelyn from Glendale, AZ

"We have 6 cats and 4 litterboxes (which i insist on cleaning every day). This simple little box has made morning box duty much faster, easier and cleaner. We have tried everything from the traditional litterboxes to the super expensive self cleaning ones and i still think these are the best.
The cats had an easy time adjusting to them because they are so similar tho the boxes they were using. I clean all 5 boxes everymoring in about 5 minutes, where as the boxes we had to scoop took much longer (and besides who really likes shoveling cat poops out one by one).
Also, we give our litter boxes a good scrubbing weekly outside. These are especially conducive to this because they are seperate pieces so you dont have to leave the cats without a box and i can just let the pieces air dry while i am cleaning the other boxes and not have to deal with any accidents.
A few things that (in my opinion) you NEED to go with these....
1. a small trash can with a wide opening (like the ones you can put your old grocery bags in) it makes dumping them and moving from one box to the next soooooo much easier and when your done you just tie off the bag and take it out.
2. a really good clumping litter. I use the more expensive multi cat stuff and it works much better than the cheap stuff.
3. a mat to go under it. these things are great because our cats are pretty bad about tracking litter all over the place."

Not Impressed, March 20, 2007
by Noelle from Virginia

"I bought this for my first cat about a month ago. Being a new cat owner I decided to give this a try because it sounded easier than scooping. But it turned out that it's not as easy as the label makes it sound.
I was (and still) changing the box everyday, and each time the wet litter would get stuck in between the holes. I also had no scooper, so I couldn't really clean it off in any way.
Overall my cat liked the box okay (she didn't have any problems with it), but I soon switched over to a simple pan and scooper and that's worked better for me."

Scoop is Easier to Use, February 9, 2007
by Tedd from Austin, Tx

"There are too many steps with using this product. Top cover does not secure well. Too much dust from sifting enitre litter box daily. Disposing of used litter is messy - numerous litter particles get deposited on the floor. Used litter easily sticks to sifting tray. Don't waste your money. Stick with the scoop. It's easier to use and not nearly as messy."

Love it!, November 17, 2006
by alice from boonies, illinois

"I HATE cleaning the cat box! With this (and it's bigger covered version) my two cats live a life of luxury and cleanliness! I only have to clean "sift" twice a week and it is soooo easy...I take a kitchen size cheap garbage bag and pull it tight at the end and just dump the waste into it without touching it! Woncerful.
