These filter cartridges are very easy to use and are superb, as all Marineland products seem to be! The only downside is the pricing. Another review wrote that they made their own. That might be worth doing.

This product is great and basic. It's carbon and a sponge. I buy this product and use it only as emergencies when I don't have time or a friend is taking care of my fish when I'm away. This product is way to expensive for what it is mostly because it's a brand name. When I have time I make my own. For example, you know the whole "go green" thing at the supermarkets and malls where plastic/papper bags are no-no's and reusable cloth bags are "in". Well this case for example, most of the time it is cost saving and good for the environment to make you own filter replacements. They sell filter media bags at Petsmart that are nylon for $0.89 and you can buy bulk carbon and just fill it up yourself with a piece of sponge inserted. Not only is it good for the environment, but you can mix whatever media you want, like ammonia chips, biomax, carbon etc.

Pros: easy to use

Cons: expensive
