I bought this thinking it would save some time. I don't know why, but it just doesn't sit flat against the inside surface of the glass, so when you move it around, it just leaves uneven streaks. You could go over and over the area and eventually get all the algae, but if I'm going have to do that, I would rather use a long handled brush that covers more area than this small magnet. To be fair, maybe the glass itself is uneven and wavy...in any case, it didn't work for me.
Cons: didn't work, hard to use

An easy way for a quick clean. While I wouldn't consider using it on a filthy/green tank, it works well for light maintenance. As a bonus, it connects back to itself while going around corners, etc. My only concern is that it may be too rough if used frequently.

This item works well at getting algae but keep it away from gravel because it will get stuck on it and scratch your tank. I also got scratches on the outside of my tank from this because of the velcro. I am very careful during cleanings, but my tank still got scratched - use at your own risk.
Pros: scrubs hard to reach areas, sticks to wall even when magnent falls off
Cons: scratched glass tank, gravel gets caught on inside of magnet

I bought this product to help clean the algae that was visible on the sides of my fish tank. It was a bit difficult to clean my tank since it has a hexagon shape but if you're using it correctly it works fine. It doesn't scratch up the side of the tank like some of the other products out there do but just be careful not to get a piece of gravel caught in between the magnetic parts.

I used to have both saltwater & freshwater aquariums about 12yrs ago, and just started up again with a saltwater aqurium this year. There's been some cool advances in aquarium equipment since then, including this cool little cleaning device. I never get my hands wet, and if it gets detached, it'll float to the top and the magnet is powerful enough to retrieve it without too much hassle. It looks to be a velcro surface on the cleaning side, which does a very good job of removing even the toughest algae build up - great product!

I have two small(6 & 12 gal.) acrylic tanks that I leave the magnets in. Once a week I "wipe" the tanks. It's very fast!
I like how they look and its really easy to clean the tank this way but sometimes it scares fishes.

I wish I had discovered this device years ago. It works much better than the scrubbers. The only downfall, is it doesnt fit well in tight spaces.

These cleaners are very durable and last a long time. But, they dont get the alge and grime out of corners and where the sides of the tank meet.
They also seem to get "lost" in the tank if you accidently let go. It is hard to get them back again without sticking your hand in the tank, Bad if your fish nip.

This product can really mess your tank up. If you use on a small tank (under 25 gal) the glass of you tank is too thin to handle the magnet and you will get lots of marks. On large tanks it works okay for the had to reach spots but it is not the best a getting the glass really clean. Razorblades work well on all glass tanks.
I have the large size for my 75 gal tank. I use it on the sides and front in between major cleanings. If you use this every couple of days there will be no significant algae buildup. Large size has a hard time in small areas, but that is to be expected. I tried one of these that didn't float. It's no fun having to reach in your tank to the absolute bottom every time your 3-year old grabs the outside part and takes off. This one stays in my tank all the time.

I had a feeling that this was likely too good to be true. We purchased the smallest size for our countertop tank, and I *will* say that this is a clever idea/design.
Our tank was by no means filthy - regular smallish amount of thin algae along inside tank walls. This contraption sort of rubbed that stuff away, but it didn't even touch the two or three small, thicker algae spots near the gravel.
We will keep it for routine maintenance between water changes, but wow - nothing beats a tank-cleaning sponge for water change tank cleanings.......
