Halti Training Head Collar

Halti Training Head Collar

A very effective, humane tool for leash training and daily management of hard to control dogs. Its revolutionary design is based on the same principle as a horse's headcollar - if you guide the head, the body will surely follow.

Enjoy walking your favorite pups, December 19, 2006
by vettechRH from Myrtle Beach, SC

"I own 2 boxers and one of them was a rescue. It was clear from the beginning that she was NOT accustomed to a leash. Almost 6 months later she was still pulling me all over the place as they are a very strong breed. It was such a chore trying to take them for a walk at the same time that it was not even enjoyable. Well, I finally purchased the Halti after much overdue consideration and it is the greatest. She hated it at first but soon became comfortable with it and now our walks are wonderful. I am even going to buy our boy one because it is such a joy and does not put undo strain on their throats.

As a veterinary technician, I highly recommend this product to many of our hyper clients. I have also heard that the Gentle Leader is great but is easy to slip out of, whereas the halti also attaches to the regular collar. I can't say enough about it!"

The Handy-Halti, November 18, 2006
by SterlingDream from Sonoma County, CA

"At home we have three dogs, Moose, Sadie and Chub. Both Sadie and Chub are Springer Spaniels and Moose is a gigantic Great Dane. The Halti has benefitted all our dogs in different ways. When Sadie was younger we would take her on walks and she would pull like crazy. We tried choke-chains and other collars that were focused on gaining control through pressure on the neck. Nothing was working all we got out of our walks were soar arms and frustration. Sometimes she'd pull so much that she would escape from her collar. One day while we were at Petsmart we came across a Halti. After finding the right size we bought it and tried it out immediately. We soon discovered that the Halti was a definite success for all our dogs and would suggest it to anyone who has a pulling dog!!!!!!"

savior!, November 10, 2006
by metre from male, syracuse, ny

"i have two labs and they are both very energetic and strong. i purchased a halti collar for both and from the first walk it was a relief. i can't imagine walking them without now. also one month ago i was hit on my bicycle and now have to walk with a cane. if it was not for the halti collars i would not be able to walk them at all. also two nights ago i was walking them and they spotted a skunk just ahead! as soon as they started to run to it they stopped because of the halti collars. even with my cane and an injured leg i was able to control both of them very easily with just one hand. the halti collars saved me from two skunk sprayed dogs! LOL
i HIGHLY recommend them to everyone and especially to any one with difficulty walking for balancing. they will make you wonder how you ever got along with out them.
thank you halti!"

Great for big dogs!, November 15, 2009
by blankenmom from All over

Pros: gives even smaller people more control, great for bigger dogs, can stop barking
Cons: needs a big enough snout, can be mistaken for a muzzle

"We've used this for years on our older dog who is 65 pounds and is actually pretty easy to control now, but as a puppy was out of control. There was no way of walking her before we got this.
Now with our puppy who at 15 months is 125 pounds and should top out at 150+ pounds would never get a walk with out it. I am nowhere near her size and I still have full control of her.
It takes some getting used to for the dogs and for the owners. You need do know how to use it properly do get the correct reaction, but it comes with instructions to help you with that. It can aslo work as a muzzle if necessary (we had to get a burr out of the older dogs paw and she wasn't happy about it, I was able to keep her away from her paw using the Halti).
It isn't a miracle - you still have to work with the dog, but it's not cruel like the spikes and allow's more control than collars or harness'.
The only complaint I would ever be able to make is that people think that your dog bites because they have it on, but that is not the Halti's fault but peoples lack of knowledge."

Works great!, October 18, 2009
by safstar03 from Austin, TX

Pros: works great, dog got used to it fast, great design
Cons: sizing chart not very accurate

"i bought the halti for my big horse of a dog and it worked so well! even the strongest of dogs will NOT pull on the leash with this product - they can't. What I like about the halti compared to some other head collars is that the nose piece has a slip kind of design so it's loose until your dog pulls, like a choke collar. some head collars i've used didn't have this feature. the only thing is the sizing chart they give you on the back isn't very accurate. i would recommend bringing your dog to try it on before purchasing, or definitely keeping the receipt in case it doesn't fit"

Not Very Well Constructed, October 13, 2009
by Kathlene from Bossier City, LA

Pros: looks nice, good built-in backup
Cons: materials not very strong

"While this item is a great idea (and many have had good results with its use), the construction and materials used in it leave some to be desired. I bought this for a black Lab I had. On our first walk using the Halti, another dog ran up on us. This other dog had no good intentions, and my Lab was easily able to get the strap that runs across the underside of the mouth (which appears to be a cotton or cotton-blend strip) into his mouth and chewed right through it. The backup connection to his collar worked, however. Perhaps, if that lower strap was also made of nylon, it would be more effective and worth the purchase."

"After getting pulled and jerked around by my 9 month old 70 lb labrador at the park, i was willing to try anything. Seeing as though i only have 20 lbs on my dog, i was hardly in control, and i couldn't trust her to be walked by anyone else. But after buying this it has worked wonders, since i go to the park everyday to walk my dog, she quickly adjusted to the head collar, and i can even run with her now, and she stay right beside me. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a puller."

amazing, August 11, 2009
by oliversgirl from Regina Saskatchewan

"I got this head collar yesterday night and I am already putting it to use. My cocker spaniel loves to sniff and track gopher holes so it is always a pain for my arm when he constantly pulls on the leash during walks. I also assume it is excrutiating on his neck. I had tried training methods for loose-leash walking and no matter what i try nothing can stop Oliver from pulling ahead. When i was camping in jasper alberta (mountains) I met a couple who have a cocker spaniel and they used a head collar. He told us all about them and how much they help so when we cam back from camping that was our first purchase and it is a pure pleasure to walk my dog now! He is extremely good natured when he has this collar on

I would recommend this product to anyone with a anxious dog!!"

Misleading size recommendations, August 7, 2009
by schnauzerowner from Texas

Pros: sturdy comfortable construction
Cons: don't think any size will fit most dogs under 15lb

"I own a 12lb mini schnauzer who wears a 12" collar. Based on the size recommendations, I bought a size 1 Halti. It was too big, so I took it back and bought the size 0 Halti. On it's smallest setting, the harness was still a little loose around the neck. Around the muzzle, the straps were all over the place. They kept slipping off or over my dog's eyes.

The product looked sturdy, and on a medium to large sized dog, I can see how this would be a great product. On a small dog, this harness doesn't work."

Wish I would have bought this a long time ago!!!, July 10, 2009
by Harlie from Houston, Texas

"I have a two year Golden who I hate to walk because she pulls. I have tried choke collars and pinch collars, but it was still a constant strugle.
I placed this on her at the store and she freaked out! She rolled around and pulled at the collar, but then I used a treat to distract her. By the time I got to the check out line at Petsmart it was no big deal. I practiced at home with a treat and walked her the same day with NO PROBLEMS! It was like another dog. She didn't pull on the lead she just walked right next to me. AMAZING PRODUCT!!!"

The Halti, June 28, 2009
by Toulouse from Chariton, Iowa

"We bought the Halti to train our six month-old Vizsla not to pull on the leash; we have two children who like to walk with him. We originally bought the size to fit him as an adult and then exchanged it to fit his weight now as a younger dog. Regardless of the size, we didn't care for this product. It is not designed to pull the nose downward as the packaging suggests. When the dog pulls on the leash, the Halti twists up against the skin under his eyes. That's because there is nothing to make it pull down. It isn't angled to pull anywhere but up, which moves the position of the Halti. We tried to sling it through the ring on his collar so that when he pulled against the leash, the control strap would be channeled down more, but all it did was turn the collar as well. There were two things I liked about the Halti. One was that it does not stay tight - our dog can open his mouth without any constriction as long as he isn't pulling against the lead. The other positive is that it was only $12, so I'm not out much money. A harness is going to be our next purchase."

no sizes fit my dog.., April 20, 2009
by ellieNC from Fuquay, NC

"I have a 15lb minpin. I tried on 3 different sizes, and either they were too big and the dog could slip out of it, or it was too small and didn't fit :( I never got to actually try it out on a walk."

INCREDIBLE PRODUCT, January 20, 2009
by Gigemagz from Cypress, TX

Pros: great control nice fit
Cons: sizing chart may be incorrect go one smaller

"We adopted a Shepherd Boxer Mix about a month and a half ago. Gracie is four months old, 26lbs and STRONG. We were having a really hard time walking her and training on the leash, until we got her the Halti. We had to return the first one that we got for her because I dont think the sizing recommendations on the package are accurate. We went a size smaller, took some time to size it according to the directions and the results were amazing.

I also took some time to give her some turkey pieces with the Halti around my wrist. Making the treat association made it a lot easier for me to put the collar on her. Then I left the collar on her while we played. I repeated this a few times and in a few hours she was really comfortable with it on.

I noticed the results on our very next walk! Gracie tried to pull but once she realized that she wasnt getting the same results as before she completely stopped and was a real pleasure to walk.

The collar also has a really great calming affect on her. I whole heartedly recommend this product to anyone who ahs a dog that pulls. Take the time to make sure the collar is fitted and worn properly and you and your buddy will be suprised and very much happier for having made the small investment!"

What a difference, November 3, 2008
by Canuck from Toronto, ON

Pros: immediate results, easy to use, safety of using normal collar as back up, non-restrictive
Cons: little tricky to size

"I have a large lab cross that loves to run (out the door) and jump (all over people). I couldn't believe how dramatic the change was with the halti. I couldn't walk my dog on my own - he pulled constantly - the entire walk. He weaved back and forth and back and forth and cut me, my husband and our smaller dog off every single time. He jumped at other dogs and people, tried to chase squirrels, cats and anything else that came across his path.

We bought the Halti on Friday and tried it out for the first time for giving out candy for Halloween. What a change. My dog was responsive to my commands (sit, stay, lie down), he didn't jump, lunge or run. I even heard someone say "What a well behaved dog". The change was immediate. A little tricky to size correctly (my smaller dog's didn't fit at all), but once right - FANTASTIC"

Halti Brand, July 28, 2008
by Bibie from Dania Beach, FL

"I bought this brand to aid in training my pit bull mix. In no time He got it right off. There is no clamp to adjust the fit around the snout. Your best bet is to get the Gentle Leader. It has the adjustable nose loop for a custom fit. He was not able to get out of that one!"

Works as described but Border Collie hated it., July 28, 2008
by OzarkLady from Saint Charles, MO

"The halti did stop my border collie from pulling. I feel it was a great training tool as my collie hated it so much that I feel he learned to heel much quicker so that I wouldn't put it on him. He looked so cute when he would rub his nose and cheeks when he saw me go get it out and after we returned from our walk. But I really felt sorry for him as I knew what he was telling me. I watched video and read instructions several times and feel sure I had it adjusted correctly. I feel some pets just don't like the feeling of something on thier nose."

Didn't work for us, May 5, 2008
by RottweilerMom from Hebron

"It was a pain in the neck to get my now 14 months old Rotti used to this Headcollar. Our dog trainer recommened this product because we've had a pulling problem. It never really worked for us. She was still able to pull and she was also able to take it off. A couple of weeks ago I bought the Easy Walk Harness. I cannot say how much I love it. It's like day and night! All the sudden my dog walks nice on a leash!"
