This is the best litter ever. Not just for seniors but for all my cats. I have 6 cats, one is a senior, 2 have severe allergies. This litter has worked wonders on all of them. The senior cat had a UTI, and I stared using this litter and he has had no problems with its use. I would tell everyone to give this litter a try.
Pros: easy to clean, eliminates odor, low dust

We have 3 female cats, they are older and overweight. 2 of the cats were having repeated UTI's . These problems led to inappropriate elimination etc. I came across this product and thought it was worth a try. Began using this in boot trays instead of the high sided litter boxes, only a quarter inch in each. The girls took to it immediately, now I have 6 trays and have not had any more UTI's or inappropriate situations. I don't notice dust and I would agree that the smell from urine is controlled but not so much the feces odor. It is easy to scoop the pans and the litter does last longer than most so the cost is not so much an issue. Also the lack of vet bills greatly makes up for the cost of the litter.

Fed up with dust all over the house, from the litter that we used, we looked for a different litter and were intrigued by Dr. Elsey's care in providing a litter product for senior cats. We changed to this litter and added a new one since the cats were not used to the feel of the gel litter. Incredibly this worked for us, so we continue to use both. We use the gel litter as a base and pour the sand litter over it, this helps with dust and clumping issues. We don't need to use as much litter, which keep our cats clean and also costs us less. The litter is cleaned out once a day and tossed out every week. There is minimal smell and dust, our cats are happy and so are we. The only downside I would say would be the cost of such a small bag of Dr. Elsey's great product.

I have been using this product for over 2 years now. I gave it 4 stars only because my cats love it. I hate it! I previously use The World's Best Cat Litter and THAT WAS the Worlds BEST cat litter!! But my 1 girl Gracie is prone to urinary tract infections because she sits so low in the litter and she would always need to be cleaned from urine soaked litter. Now she doesn't have either of those problems. But this litter is VERY dusty and gets tracted every where and does not cover feces oder well. I have no problem with the urine odor though. It is pricey since it does not last long. Would recommend for health issue but be aware of the dust and tracting issues. The dust is really bad.
Pros: easy to clean
Cons: Doesn't Eliminate Odor, messy, Hard to Sift

BEST LITTER WE TRIED

I gave this 5 stars even though it does track, because my three old cats love it. It's easier on their paws, it prevents odor and dust is less. I solved the tracking problem by putting 2 large brown 3M mats outside each box, and by having an indoor-outdoor rug past the mats. So most of the litter is trapped by the mats and rug. I also purchased 2 large high sided corner litter boxes. These seem to prevent litter from being kicked out by vigorous digging and burying. It's a bit more expensive, put definitely worth it. We wash the litter boxes with detergent and baking soda, and replace with new litter every two weeks.
Pros: eliminates odor, low dust, easy to clean

This litter was a Godsend! My oldest cat began not using the litter box. I read Dr Elsey's directions, use boxes with no hoods, keep litter impecably clean, etc. Since making these changes and using this litter, it's like a magic wand was waved over my house...:-) All 5 of my cats love this litter and we have no problems what-so-ever.

Expensive for not clumping urine

I like that it creates less dust. It's easy to scoop because it doesn't stick to the bottom. On the other hand, it rarely clumps urine. I have 2 female cats ages 11 and 7. They had no trouble switching to this litter. I left their old box with clay litter set up while they transitioned. I think they like it better for using.
Unfortunately, this litter tracks TERRIBLY. It crunches under your feet and you can't really see it so you think you cleaned it up and it'll still be there.
It could deodorize a little better. I've been using it for a week and a half now. Despite not all the urine not clumping and becoming part of the litter, that part doesn't seem to smell. But I think it might be what is causing it not to deodorize the #2 very well. So until you scoop it out, you will smell it.
You can see where the urine has become part of the litter. It changes color.
Minimal litter seems to stick to the poo. So perhaps it will last longer than most clay litters. No throwing excess away. But perhaps this is also because it doesn't clump urine much so a lot of it is staying IN the box, but as USED.
Pros: less dust, easy to scoop, no throwing excess litter away with scoops
Cons: doesn't clump urine, tracks, expensive

Tried them all - we've found our healthy litter!

June 19, 2010

I switched to Dr Elseys senior litter a few years back because it was supposed to be good for preventing urinary infections. We'd had a couple tricky episodes and wanted to do holistic things to prevent a reoccurrence.
Since we switched to this litter, we’ve not had one problem. It's small like sand - unlike the big pearl types, that are awful to step on in bare feet. It's easy on his paws so he's great about using his pan 100%.
Before, I tried The Worlds Best (stuck on the bottom of the pan) Sweat Scoop, and many others. The ones made from organic stuff smelled, grow bacteria. When a kitty squats down to do his thing, he can pick up bacteria in the urethra.
This litter doesn't grow bacteria well, and it doesn't smell like others we tried. I change it every 2-3 weeks. It's the easiest one yet to scoop out the "solids" and flush once or twice a day. With only one small bathroom, we'd know if it smelled and it's great!
100% happy with this litter - we've stopped switching. It does cost a bit more than the cheapies, but there's a coupon in the bag. For the health of my cat, and saving vet bills and antibiotics - it's been worth it's weight in gold.
Pros: does what it says - supports urinary health, doesn't smell, hardly any tracking (yay!)
Cons: wish it was a little cheaper

I used to use this for my huge Maine Coon cat because it was perfect size and he loved it. No odor, no mess, no problems.
We adopted a new little kitty, and with 2 cats using the litter box it was a nightmare. We have 2 litter boxes but they choose only the one. The new guy won't cover his business and it stinks to high heaven, even though we feed grain free wet food. He also drinks more then our big guy. This litter won't hold that much urine between the 2 of them. We'd clean it in the morning, and by the time we came home the whole middle looked like they filled a 2 liter pitcher of water and dumped it. I needed to switch to the Precious Cat litter crystals, but the particle size was too big, and they both hated it.
I have now switched to the good old clay/clumping Precious Cat Ultra. They LOOOOOOOVE it. It's now smaller clumps of urine and the little guy is covering his business.
Don't get me wrong, I would still recommend this litter! I don't think I'd recommend it to multiple cat households. This is more of a one cat litter.
Pros: no smell. removal of solid only. 1 cat 2 months.
Cons: multiple cats too much waste. litter can't absorb

Best Cat Litter Ever!

My female cat Sophie is overweight and frequently contracts urinary tract infections. The last infection caused her to completely stop using the litter box even after the infection cleared up with medication. I took the veterinarian's advice and added another litter box to the house, began feeding her wet food to help with her not drinking enough water, began cleaning the litter box twice a day, and even started giving her a urinary tract health supplement. Nothing seemed to work. I decided to try Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior Litter because it stated that the litter was for overweight cats and reduced the risk of UTI's. Sure enough, as soon as I changed the litter (which used to be Tidy Cats Long Lasting Ordor Control) she began using the litter box! So far, no more accidents! I will continue to use this cat litter...it works! There is no dust when pouring it into the litter box, it completely controls odors, and it has helped my problem cat return to her normal self! I recommend this litter to anyone with a cat who frequently contracts UTI's or has urinary problems. It is also great for cats who do not have urinary health problems. My second cat is a male who has never had urinary health problems and he took to it immediately. This cat litter is a miracle!
Pros: no dust, soft super fine crystals, completely controls odor

I have 9 cats & 9 litter boxes, so cat litter is a very important commodity in our house! I have tried pretty much every type & brand of litter available & am most happy with this one. It does a great job of containing odors without the use of overpowering & harmful scents. It makes box cleaning extremely easy because it does not stick to the box. You only have to use 1 inch or so in the box so 1 bag lasts quite a long time. All my cats transitioned to this litter easily because the particles are small and non-jagged. The only downside to the product is that it is somewhat dusty (thus 4 stars instead of 5); however, what's most important is that the dust does NOT contain crystalline silica which has shown in several studies to be harmful to cats' lungs when it is breathed in. This litter is also 100% biodegradable so it is environmentally friendly.

This is the BEST cat liter I have ever used and believe me I have used them all. My cats (4) love it. It is very soft on their feet. It also can be used in electronic boxes. I would highly recommend this to all cat lovers.
