This product is a really good product. When I bought it I thought it just looked cool. But it was also really handy. Scince it had a wheel attatched to it I didn't have to go buy a seperate wheel. Also, scince it had a little twirl to get up to the wheel it gave my hamster a lot of exercise.
I also think this is a great product because you can use it for a whole bunch of little small pets such as mice, hamsters, and dwarf hamsters. My hamster especially liked the little compartment area on the top where the hamster can burrow into and make a little nest. The small animals will especially like the tube that goes up to the nest too. I really like this cage and i hope that anyone that is thinking about getting a cage that they choose this one.

Not for Escape Artists!

This cage has many possible escape options for those hamsters who like to explore. The spiral staircase and big wheel often come apart, thus allowing curious hamsters to escape through the top hole. Our hamster has escaped 3 times now so we're finding a new cage today.

The clips on the side & on the water bottle are very hard to clip off and on as well.

The cage is cute & looks good with all the "extras", but it's not for our hamster.

This cage is so hard to clean. The wheel gets crusted with urine, and it is hard to take apart. I broke the top trying to disconnect the wheel for cleaning, and the water bottle absolutely needs replacing. That being said, my robo LOVES it. He actually has two of these cages connected by tubing (one cage by itself is a bit small even for a dwarf hamster), but I took the green spiral out of one. He sleeps in his top wheel, and he does fling food and waste everywhere when he runs. But he seems so happy in there, I just let it be. I would not buy this cage alone since it is honestly small even for one hamster (let alone 2 or 3) but watching my little guy climb up to the "petting" area every day when he knows it's feeding time is just too cute. This isn't the greatest (or cheapest) cage ever, but it is a fun and engaging habitat for small pets.

PROS!!

It's been successful at being escape-proof for my two fancy mice. The bars are perfectly spaced so they can't even squeeze through, the space for them to run and play is acceptable, and they love running up through the tube to get to the little top compartment that locks to close nicely. They liked running up and down the slide. I liked that it came with a durable yellow food bowl as well. I like the spring mechanism of the door, its nice and stable.

CONS!!

I hate Crittertrail water bottles, NEVER USE THE ONES THAT COME WITH THE CAGE, THEY ALWAYS DRIP! I've had many Crittertrail cages and the water bottles were all the same with the leaking. I have an extra water bottle but it won't squeeze through the bars, so you have to have it through the hole where the water bottle that came with it is supposed to go, right behind the slide which I think is badly placed. The top wheel was fun for a bit until they used it as a toilet and it was incredibly difficult to clean. I tried to block it off but it was hard. They liked the slide but I removed it to make more room and then blocked off the hole to the top wheel and replaced it with a Super Pet Silent spinner wheel on its stand, which is a great kind of wheel for all pet rodents that comes in different sizes!!

Overall, I like the CAGE. Not the unique top wheel, not the water bottle... but it's good quality, pretty easy to clean without taking it apart, but I could've found a better cage.
*I also enjoyed that it was on sale for a better price.

The wheel is good but, he aways pees up there. The water bottle stinks because you have do that latch that is so hard. Then I found out were the yellow cap goes you can pop it out and buy a special water bottle that goes in.

My son got this cage for x-mas. At first was exciting to watch the gerbils figure things out. The gerbils chewed the slide and it fell off. They still could use the wheel on top but there number 1 & 2 falls in the tray below and smells up the whole room and the #2 stays in the wheel when they are running in it. Also the petting zoo part the gerbils will push the bedding down the tube and they will mess up in the top. The last time i cleaned this cage I was gagging it was so gross. We clean the cage one a week and that is not enough. If you get this you would have to clean it at least twice a week. Good luck - we are going back to the smaller cage.

my robo hamster loves the wheel but that always smells horrible and the same with the slide. the water bottle is very noisy. the thing that's supposed to catch things at the bottem of the wheel, DOES NOT WORK. there's always food and the bedding that he puts in his wheel on the floor and the wheel get VERY noisy when he also brings his food in there.

1. Assembly took a little while; there are a lot of parts. Be VERY careful when using the lower openings as the tubes or end bubbles don't always seat properly. One of my robo dwarfs took a stroll overnight on the first night I had him. Paranoid as I am I was positive the end tube was tight. I changed out the end tube bubble for another full tube set (using an extras kit to make a tube similar to the one included)...it was a much tighter fit.

2. In the instructions the opening for the water bottle is opposite the slide but looking at this picture, it is the instructions that are wrong. It would make more sense to have the water bottle opposite the slide as the tube is pretty well hidden and my dwarves wouldn't touch it. I turned the top around and put the slide to the right vice the left to open up the water tube port.

3. Use a little mineral oil on the wheel spoke and the ring around the top for easier movement otherwise it tends to bind. Larger hamsters wouldn't have a problem but the dwarfs aren't heavy enough to get it moving if it is binding the least bit.

4. The clips to close the lid on the upper pet carrier tray are a little easier to slide than I would like to see; again, paranoid but I have a cat that, while she isn't aggressive to the hamsters, could easily move the clips if she played with them enough and the lid isn't heavy; at least one of my robos could open it if it was unlatched (he showed me). I have a couple of pieces of tape securing the lid..just in case.

5. The water bottle clip is REALLY snug and at first use caused the water bottle to essentially drain. I played with it a little to loosen it and now it holds the bottle without adding a lot of pressure.

My two dwarfs get together in the wheel and really get it going. For whatever reason they love to sleep in the wheel despite all the nice comfy bedding in the main cage and also in the pet carrier tray.

Pros: stylish, easy to clean, sturdy

i got this as a new cage since my 2 dwarfs old cage was dusty and i saw this and it was the cheapest and nicest one.it was kind of hard to assemble but it was well worth it. I recoomend this for beginner hamster owners

Gave this cage & 2 gerbils 2 as Christmas gifts for my sons, 2 days before Christmas. On day 1, the gerbils chewed 60% of the tubing & wheel which caused the wheel to separate from the cage & they escaped x2hr. Luckily we found them. By Christmas day, the entire tubing, and connection to wheel was chewed up & destroyed. Petsmart has a great policy & I was able to get a wire cage, which they can't escape from. Not a cage for gerbils & manufacturer should not recommend for gerbils.

It's good for my hamster but he stuffed his face with food and fluff and spat it in his wheel in the top,then
He ran on the wheel and stuff goes flying everywhere.

So it's not half bad.

And it goes flying out of the wheels holes. One of the arms that supports the wheel broke very easily in just one week!

I picked out this habitat for my new mouse, and he LOVES it. But I would definitely recommend buying something extra that your furry friend can hide in (igloos, logs, etc.)

Pros:
-The wheel/tunnel gives them TONS of exercise
-Carrying case makes it easy for transporting
-Caging promotes climbing
-Well built, fun, and expandable

Cons:
-Takes 10-30 mins to thoroughly clean all parts
-Requires patience when putting together
-Relatively good price, but not the best I've seen

Overall I would recommend this product to any beginner or customer with 1 mouse/gerbil/hamster/etc.

My dwarf hamster love his cage! It is hard to put together, the instructions were kind of confusing it took My friend and I 45 minutes to put together. But my dwarf hamster loves the petting zone and the wheel is very cool! Cleaning the cage is pretty easy too and easy to put back together and my hamster is very cozy in this cage!

Overall, the Crittertrail X is a great cage that my mouse loves! It is pretty hard to clean, so it would not be very good for younger children, but it is stylish and a lot of fun for your small rodent. I have a mouse and she loves it. The wheel is WAY to big for her and she cannot spin it. She uses that as a toilet. The water bottle is not in a very convienent spot, so if you have the cage up against a wall, it is very hard to reach. My mouse fits up the tube fine, and she loves the slide. The food dish is a great addition, but it is too big for a mouse, and my mouse has to climb all the way inside to reach her food. I do love the colors though. This is a great cage as far as fun for the pet. It is very entertaining to watch your pet run about in the cage. I would say that this is a great cage!

When I saw this cage on display I knew I had to get it! It's a good buy! It's very easy to clean and put together but there is one major problem with it. The problem is is that it makes a HUGE mess. This won't happen to everyone but it happens to some people. I have a Chinese Dwarf Hamster who loves to run in the wheel AND sleep in it. So she brought bedding and food, A LOT, up to the wheel. At night she would TRY to run in it and when she tried bedding and food got all over the table. So I had to take that part off. Now I out her flying saucer in it and she has a clean fun cage.

Pros: easy to clean, sturdy

Cons: price, low quality

I have never owned a hamster. My two children wanted this cage so we purchased it. Got it home and it took over an hour to assemble. Instructions were not clear. I liked the cage after we got it put together but the wheel is a MESS! Not only is it loud at night...we could hear it from 1 am to 5 am (haha) but it is a mess. The droppings and liquid fall out of it all over the floor in our house and I have to constantly wipe it up. I ended up removing the wheel and putting the plug in. My 7 year old daughter was very upset but I couldn't handle the mess. Wish I would have read reviews first.

Within a few months, though, I connected a separate cage because this was too small.
I also had a problem with the waste flying all over the place and the plastic of the wheel eventually started wearing down until, around three months ago, my robo hamster couldn't move it any more.
Since then, the cage has been trashed and I've been keeping her in one of those large, clear plastic bins with high walls and no lid that I had lying around. My chief complaints about this Crittertrail X habitat (takes too long to clean, not enough floor space) are solved because of this switch but I suppose it all depends on your style of hamster-keeping.
