so quiet,
February 4, 2010
by surphette
from hutchinson, MN
|
"I have only had the fountain a few days, but it is so quiet and my Min Pin seems to like it. Hopefully it will help with increasing "Harley's" water consumption. There is not much to cleaning the product so it should be easy to take care of once a week. I would like it if it were higher off the floor; however, I haven't found a waterer that is any higher so I can't hold that against the product."

My cats love this,
December 8, 2009
by Deb4cats
from Austin, TX
|
Pros: fresh water
Cons: can be loud
"You know how cats love to drink from the faucet? This gives your cats fresh running water all the time. I have 4 cats and had to constantly refill all their water bowls - plus they seemed to prefer the sink and shower.
I fill this up once every few days and they love it."

Drinkwell,
November 27, 2009
by Nabisco
from Pensacola, Fl
|
"My cats love this fountain. They seem to drink more water than before. One cat like to drink directly from the spout and not the dish. The only con is that if something falls in the well (eg..food) it might get inside the pump spout at the bottom of the bowl. It is easy to clean if you buy the cleaning kit for it."

With proper maintenance it's great!,
September 1, 2009
by dominodreams
from Philadelphia, PA
|
Pros: requires little daily maintenance, quiet
Cons: pain to clean w/o cleaning kit
"What I think a lot of the reviewers here forget to do is to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. You're supposed to clean the fountain once a week. I have left the thing to get gross for a couple of weeks and I'd have to fill it daily to keep it from grinding. After a good cleaning (if you pull out the magnetic fin you can clean the gunk out of the inside of the motor) it got down to a half inch from the bottom before it started grinding. If you keep it clean it will work wonderfully!
As for cleaning, sure it's a pain in the butt, but once I got the cleaning kit the whole process went much more smoothly. I'm sure if I soaked it in bleach and all that it would stay cleaner between cleanings, but as it is I can get away with cleaning it once every two weeks (or else suffer the occasional grinding sound between fillups).
I give it 5 stars because it really is quite easy to use and if I weren't so lazy I wouldn't have any problems whatsoever. Both cats love it, even the one who's terrified of water! The little 'ramp' that the waterfall lands on prevents the water from splashing my cats in the face, so even my 'fraidy cat loves it, too!
I use filtered water (from a pitcher) so it tastes fresher, but I still use the charcoal filters. One downside to the filters is that when they're brand new they leave a black residue all over the fountain, but if you clean it and rinse out the filter it goes away.
The filter is NOT designed to catch the cat hair. It is designed to filter out chlorine and other chemicals that make tap water taste bad. You could just pull the cat hair out of the adjuster doohickey, like pulling hair out of the shower drain, and that will work for a day or two, to tide you over until you can find time to clean it.
I'm going to go buy the resevoir this evening, probably the 70z, just because I often forget to fill it up. Sure, there might be simpler fountains out there, but for the price I really like having this fountain, and I'm pretty sure my cats do, too. Though I'm sure they wish I'd clean it more often! ;)"

Awesome for 3 Cats!,
June 30, 2009
by cswietlik41109
from Bridgman, MI
|
Pros: runs quiet, cats drink more
Cons: none
"I have 3 finicky cats who'd rather drink from the faucet than a water dish. I purchased this with hopes that they'd drink more and they did! Every morning I refill this thing and the vet said they are getting the right amount of water intake now. I couldn't be happier with this product."

Cat loves it, but a pain to clean,
June 8, 2009
by Lana
from NY
|
Pros: cat loves it, don't have to refill as often
Cons: pain to clean, makes a loud noise when it gets around 1/2 empty
"I've had this fountain for just about a year and my cat loves it. It took her awhile to realize that she was supposed to drink out of it and not just play with it, but now she will climb up on top of it and drink from the spout from above. It's nice that I don't have to constantly clean it out and refill it, but eventually when I do have to clean it, it's a huge pain. There are tons of little crevices that are just impossible to get to, and I don't know if it's the filter or what, but everything gets covered in this slimy gunk. I think you need to change the filter more often than they recommend. Also, cat hair gets stuck in the adjustment knob before it gets to the filter, so I think that keeps it from filtering everything. Overall it has worked out well, but I think I'm going to shop around for something better eventually."

Cons: weak filter, does not remove cat hair
"The fountain is great for ensuring the cats always have fresh water. It is not so great for water circulation. Poor pump that doesn't properly filter the water. I am constantly finding stuff floating in the water or on the bottom, the filter isn't sucking them into the pad."

"This product really worked well. We had just gotten our new kitten when we got this fountain. It took a little while for him to get used to it but soon he loved it. If you don't change the filter often enough it can get pretty dirty with mold. We cleaned it in the sink every so often too. After about a year it stopped working but for a while it was good."

Good Purchase,
February 11, 2009
by bengal
from Philly

Pros: fresh water
Cons: no color options
"My kitten gives me no bother about drinking from it. I bought the resevoir but have not had to use it as the fountain holds adaquate water. Notice some charcoal (??) traces in the water, probably on account of the charcoal filer."

"After reading reviews of this product I hoped it would be a solution to our cat's addiction to the tub faucet. He would beg for it to be turned on constantly and I worried that he wasn't drinking enough during the day when no one was home to turn on the tub. He came up to it right away and has been drinking like crazy out of it since (both the fountain and the bowl). No more begging at 4 am or outside the door during showers! I would really recommend this to anyone who has a pet obsessed with faucets."

Great!,
October 10, 2008
by Safari
from Omaha, NE

"This is great for our cats that won't drink much from a dish and have gotten UTI's. I'd recommend using distilled water to also help with the UTI's and to prevent water stains. If you don't buy the reservoir you'll have to fill it every other day and can't use it on vacation because it will run out of water and overheat."

"I just got the drinkwell fountain today and my kitten already loves it. It took her a little bit to figure out what it was, she got her paw wet and smelled it, and I guess she liked it because soon after she started to drink the water from the fountain but I havn't seen her drink from the base but she really loves the fountain. I read about other water fountains that clean it but they were reviewed as to too loud or too messy or both and then I saw this one and it said that a lot of ppl like it so I decided to get it and I love it as much as my kitten does. I reccomend you get the reservoir because it holds much more water than the thing itself and if your gone for a few days you wont have to worry about your cat going thirsty at all."

Excellent Item! Worth the Money!,
August 20, 2008
by LovesCats
from Tampa, FL
|
"This is an awesome product. I'm picking up a second one today. I've had mine for over 3 years now and no problems. I'm getting a second one so that I have one on each end of the house for the girls. For those reviews you may read about the humming/buzz you sometimes have to prime the pump a little and it should go away. Stick your finger in the hole where the water comes up from the pump and move it in and out. That or CLEAN YOUR DRINKWELL! We disassemble our Drinkwell every 1 to 2 week and clean it thoroughly with hot water and a little bleach. We let it soak until the water gets cold and then rinse thoroughly and let dry before refilling it. You can remove the little white "fan type thing" from the motor and take a small circular brush and clean out the insides. If you clean it regularly it should last a long time. Also bleaching it regularly helps keep bacteria and other harmful things from building up. Trust me. It's so worth the money if you love your pet."
