The Doggie Dooley seem like a great idea but it only worked for a few months. After that there were bugs of all kinds surrounding it. My yard was filled with mosquitoes because of it although it wasn't placed far away in a corner. It smelled horrible in my yard because of it. It backs up and no matter how often you water it and add the enzimes, it overflows and stops working properly. I only have one dog.

I installed this at my old house. I did about everything they said not to do with the dooley and it still worked. I dug a hole in the ground, but not as big as they suggest. I did dig about 6 inches deeper than the base of the unit. Put down about 2 inches of crushed rock. Placed unit in the hole (more like wedged it in there) and then filled in the dirt on the sides. It was placed in a shady spot (they recomend sunny location). I added in the digester and started adding in pet waste. I had a large 90lb GSD who created a lot of waste.
Anyway, after a while,the waste was liquified in the dooley. But i could also see movement. Upon closer inspection, i realized worms were breaking down the waste. Despite adding more waste, the level never seemed to rise in the container. I would say there was still a good foot of open space between opening and the level of waste. I also cannot remember if I ever added any more digester. I think the worms did it all.
There was not any smell unless you got your face right on the door. No animals ever tried to get in and the dog left it alone.
I moved, and i am therefore going to but another one for my new house. However, i am getting the smaller size as i will have a smaller dog.
It was difficult to dig the hole. I have solid clay here in Maryland. But i think with the rocks in the bottom, the dooley still worked well.

We had one of these for several years at our former home. It worked great for our two large dogs. The hole was hard to dig because it was so deep and we have clay here, but a post hole digger helped. Like a previous reviewer suggested, save the dirt for refilling after it settles a bit. I loved that there were no "little bombs" left in the yard, but the best part... no more flies!!! If you are on the fence about getting one, I can say it was well worth the investment! I hated leaving it when we moved, I even thought about digging it back up (gross, I know).

We installed our first Doggie Dooley system about 1 month ago and have been very happy with it! We were using biodegradable bags to pick up after our 70lb dog on her 2-3 walks daily, but hated the fact that it was going to the landfill. We found this product and are very very happy with its performance-works well even in the red clay of SC! Just have to add 1 scoop of digester weekly and a couple buckets of water and it takes care of business all by itself! I'm sure our trash man is happier too :) Digging the large hole is not fun but only have to do it once! Keep the left over dirt for a week or two because it does settle a bit with rain etc. and you will want to backfill around the sides. LOVE BEING GREEN WITH THE DOOLEY!
