What can I say...it's terrific! My long haired Chihuahua loves his "T-T pot." And, he also does his business outside as well if we're driving to see the vet or his groomer. But, he really prefers his litter. It saves him & me from having to go outside in all kinds of horrific weather, hot weather, cold weather...my baby is inside where it is comfortable.

I cannot tell you enough how great this dog litter is! I started using it when my chi was a puppy. I had tried the pads and she just wasn't making it all the way on there. I purchased the larger tray with the litter which was great because Lola (she is a 9 lb. chihuahua) likes to sniff around and do circles before she does her business. She will go #1 & 2 in her tray and it is soooo easy to clean, you have no idea!!! I have also over the years (because Petsmart has run out of this product) purchased other types of dog litter...please note...the others do not work and the pellets are smaller and break down way easier than these and smell awful. It has a pleasant fragrance odor and my dog loves her tray. I can leave her for hours on end and know that when I come home all of her business will be in her tray! Please do not EVER stop making this product Purina and note to Petsmart, please keep it stocked on your shelves in Yorba Linda!

We have a 10 lb Yorkiepoo and she has used this litter since we brought her home. Potty pads didnt work, she tore them to shreds. We have tried others but they were way too messy. This one pretty much stays in the litter pan. We scoop it out as she uses it into a kitty diaper genie. Once in awhile she will try to chew on a piece but its not that often. Overall we love this product, we are able to go off for the whole day and not worry about a big mess to come home to. It beats having to go out in the heat, cold and rain all the time (she still will go outside also). The only negative is I wish I could get it on sale or coupons for it more often, for it does get a little pricey.

After reading the reviews I notice the lil dogs are having probelms with this product. But I love it! I have a 2 mth yorkie and he was potty train on the day I got him. He smells the litter and goes right over there. I put the litter in his crate and i divided his resting area and his bathroom area. I still have to use pads on the side of the crate because he can smell the litter and thinks its ok to go there but he doesn't realize he is out side his crate. but overall I would recommend this product to anyone big or small dog.

The pieces in this litter are too large for my little 10wk old Cairn Terrier. Every time I put her in the litter pan the pieces slide all over causing her to slide all over the pan. She hates this litter and constantly jumps out, she hasn't used it once. We ended up just getting puppy pads for when we can't run her outside right away. I really wouldn't recommend this product for anyone with a tiny light weight puppy.

While on a business trip, my husband and I decided to get a less messy litter than we normaly get (pine shavings). We bought a bag and put a thin layer in the box. Our little ig girl who uses the box religiously stepped into it and was slipping around, so we added more. Later, she stepped into it and was sinking and litter was sticking inbetween her paws and she would jump out immediatly.
I thought maybe this was ment for 2- 3lb dogs, since there is a yorkie on the front and yorkies are known to be around that size so I looked at the bag and was astonished to see that it is recommended for up to 35lbs!!!
While this product is great for odor control and absorbancy, our little iggies were nearly terrified of it.

I have been using this product with my mini Dachshund, Sadie, since I got her 9 months ago and I am so glad. It is so convenient to not have to take her out in the cold and wet (where she won't go in wet grass anyway) and I don't have to worry about getting home late after work. She did seem to eat it when she was younger, but has grown out of that. Being a product made from recycled newspapers, there is some variation from batch to batch, but only in color from what I've noticed. This is a great product that makes our lives easier.

I have been using this brand for a few years now. Last year either I got a bad batch or the "formula" changed and it would disintegrate quickly and was very messy. I'm happy to report, I tried it again after using another product, and found the product to be improved greatly. I am off to the store to buy another bag. Oh, BTW, it is $8.00 more in the store than online, so print out a copy of the listing page online and bring it with you to the store. If the employees are well trained, they will honor the internet price.
Pros: dogs easily trained

My first chihuahua loves using the litter box. She hates the cold so this is so much better for her.
I have a new 10 week old chihuahua and she just wants to eat the litter. Hope it wont hurt her??!!?? Im still training her but no luck yet.
This is a great product. People in apartments and people who have dogs that hate the cold like mine.....you will love this.
Cons: it must taste good because my little one eats it

I don't know what's wrong with this litter, I have a chihuahua puppy, but stubborn him, I put him in the litter box. and he jumps out, and gets a piece of litter and chews on it. I don't know what else to do with this puppy. Since we've had this product, he hasn't used the "potty" in it once. But anyways, good luck to anyone else to trys it!!!

My fiance suggested that we try this product to help housetrain our new miniature dachshund puppy. I was skeptical but curious, so we bought a bag of litter and a litter box. To my amazement, within one day and with minimal prompting, our puppy caught on and starting pooping in the litter box! Within one week, he was pooping exclusively in the box and peeing most of the time in the box (he still occasionally pees on housetraining pads that we lay out for him, but we plan to stop using these as soon as we run out of pads). Furthermore, it controls odor, it's easy to clean up, and, in my opinion, it's a much better deal than buying 50-count bags of housetraining pads. This is, hands down, the best purchase we've made for our new puppy! The second is probably PetSmart's Bobo dog toy!

We have 3 Pugs and work 25 miles from home, so letting them out during the day wasn't an option for us. It works like a charm!! We have also bred our female and ALL the puppies at 8 weeks were litter trained when they went to their new owners. How exciting for new puppy owners!! I would highly recommend it to anyone with small dogs!!

I did not know that "dog litter" existed until I was browsing the petsmart site one day. When I came across the product and saw the good ratings, I decided to try it out. Both of my 4-month-old Havanese and Yorki Poo learned to use it in less than a week! I did try to get them used to cat litter as a cheaper alternative but it was very unsuccessful. I am going to stick with Secondnature. The product is great and very convenient, especially since I live in an apartment on the 6th floor. The only downside is that my dogs like to chew it when I first change the litter. I often find chewed up pieces around the house.

The fact that dog litter exists is one that can be easily overlooked. I didn't know about it until I had knee surgery which made it very difficult to take my new puppy outside to do his business. Plus, we lived on the 18th floor. After setting his litter box up, I had to place Homer inside it at the times I would have taken him outside. He was so tiny he could hardly climb into the small box (he's a Pug), but within about a week, he managed to climb in on his own. I have never had such an easy time potty training a dog! If you place the box in your utility room, bathroom, etc. it is away from other people. It doesn't stink either. All I do is clean up his poo when it happens, and take out the used pellets when they swell up. That's how to tell they have been used up. I also disinfect it every week to 10 days, and spot disinfect as needed. I have also trained my parents' Pug. It's really great to have if you have any mobility problems due to arthritis, etc. If you take a trip and expect your dog to go potty outside, you'll need to take some dog litter with you to put in the grass so they know what they are supposed to do. Otherwise, they will just stare at you like you are crazy. Homer and Bozo are very clean, and the litter in no way makes cleanliness a problem.

Good idea, but....

May 3, 2008

Believe it or not, I litter box trained my then 2-month-old Samoyed puppy because I couldn't stay with him all day. He took to it right away and the few accidents he had were due to him having a hard time getting into the litter pan, but once he got a hang of it, it worked great. He used it until he was about 8-months old and big enough to hold it all day and could go outside with the big dogs. He had at most three accidents in the house after and none in his crate.
HOWEVER, the pellets were awful. My puppy chewed them up and they smelled awful. I replaced them with basic kitty clay litter, sprayed some training spray on it, gently rubbed his little nose in it and walked him on it. That's all it took!
I don't know if you can train every puppy like this or Teddy was just extraoridinary (I love him, but I think you could train just about any dog to use a litter box). I think the key is to keep the crate or wherever you keep the litter box immaculate and clean up accidents right away. Also, toss out the messes from the box ASAP. Don't let puppy get used to it.
Teddy is now 3 and weighs 75 pounds. I'm bringing home another puppy soon and I hope I can litter train him too!

I have two chihuahuas. One 7 month old female and a 1 year old male. I tried the litter box multiple times but it just does not work with them. They do not like the box and would rather use anything but that. I think the litter box is a great idea but only if you can get it to work! Well my puppies are going to stick to paper because it works and they do not mind. Another problem that I had with the litter box is that the puppies kept eating the pellets. This product MAY be great IF YOU CAN GET IT TO WORK!!!

The litter may work but my 9 month old yorkie didn't like to walk on it. I could coax him into but after a week of training every morning he wouldn't go on the litter. I even used the puppy spray, but he would just stand, even after 15 minutes, he just holds it until I let him out. Then he'd go on the floor if I didn't get the door outside opened fast enough. He did like to chew on the pellets, I'm still finding them all over the house.
