I started using Nutri-berries about 15 years ago. My cockatiel was in intensive care because she had developed bleeding ulsers due to malnutrition! She was picky and would only eat seed. We thought that as long as she was eating the seed, she was getting good nutrition. After the experience of almost losing her, we started using Nutri-berries, as recommended by the vet. She had no trouble making the switch, and she lived to be over 25 years old!
When we first started giving the Nutri-berries to our parakeets, they would drop them on the cage floor, and a lot of food was going to waste. Now, we just break up the "berries" and scoop the food into the dish. They still play with the food, but a lot less is wasted.
For anyone who hates the mess of regular bird seed, this is the answer, since there are no seed hulls to fly around and out of the cage everytime the birds eat.

Can't get my birds to eat them

I know they are healthy for birds but I can't get mine to eat this food. They just get thrown to the floor. I have taken the time to crumble them all up and mixed with the seed, but they still seem to be a waste on my birds.
Also it is too time consuming for me to do that anyone. I may as well just give them the seed they like.

They only problem is the price of the food. Other than that it's a great food for your parakeet.

My budgie, Lucy, doesn't really like these too much. She would rather eat her seed mix than this. I have to put this by itself and take out the seed for her to eat it. She also grabs the whole berry and breaks off one seed and ends up dropping most of them. I don't know if she does this on purpose but most of them end up on the floor of her cage. Overall good for her health. :)

I offer my guys the cockatiel nutriberries, but they don't seem to have them listed here online, so I'll review it here.
Great product. I've heard really great things about the company. I was browsing my petsmart, and saw it on sale. I figured I'd try it out.
My guys eat their pellets, seeds, and fresh foods, but they also love the nutri-berries.
It acts as a foraging toy, and they seem to really enjoy it.
I think it will now be a part of their regular diet.

We have been using the Lafeber Nutri-berries for years since our vet recommended them. Our birds seem to enjoy the taste and the challenge of eating them. Generally this is the first thing they go for when they get fed in the morning.

Yes, they really do eat the whole berry. My parakeets LOVE this food. They used to be picky seed eaters but they chow down on these and don't leave a scrap. Nutriberries made conversion to a pellet diet really easy too, because I could offer both pellets and Nutriberries once or twice a day instead of seed through the process to make sure my birds had enough to eat. Also, they are as nutritious as pellets and made from *fresh,* hulled seeds so all that good stuff they coat them in doesn't end up as waste.
My birds eat mainly pellets now, but Nutriberries are their favorite snack/dinner.
