I had purchased these carbon pads with my new filters. I was pressed for time, so I put the filters together with the carbon pads. I was going to clean the water the next day when I had time. My large canister filter system had been chewed up by my wife's dog. The water was starting to smell. I placed the filters into the water. The next day when I went to clean he water there was no smell and the water was much clearer. I will praise the fluval internal filters with the extra carbon pads to everyone. They really are surprising for their size.
