What I love about this product is you do not require replacement filters. You clean the sponge in a bucket of tank water, squeeze the sponge several times and it is clean for reinsertion and reuse. All one has to purchase is new carbon, and that is it.

I have been using a pair of 110 filters on my 150 gal tank for over seven years and have not had any issues. Only recently have I had to replace one of the filters. I have never had any issues with any of the Aqua Clear filters of any size. I have tried other brands and they just don't stack up.

I own 5 of these filters. They are the powerhouse of Hang On the Back (HOB) filters! They are durable, efficient and quiet. The best part is that you can adjust the filter media to your needs. Each part of the fiter media sits in a basket so you can use whatever combo of filter media you like. The filter media is relatively cheap compared to the all-in-one cartridges that most HOB filters use. The parts are all replaceable but they rarely wear out. Just a hint: if you have sand substrate turn the filter off when you do your water changes or the sand stirred up will damage the impeller.

I had four Aquean filters in one year and had three motors just stop working and one for no reason the filter cracked. Aqua Clear Power Filters are simply the best filter and if your not sure which you should by know this if you buy a Aquean then you'll be back to buy a Aqua Clear. Very low cost to replece the chemical, biological and foam pieces of this filter. They run about $2.99 and they can't be easier to replace in the filter. ammonia was always a problem but no longer with this filtere. Last it's wisper quiet well it's actually noiseless.

Aqua Clear oh my god is amazing it has Ammonia remover and it has carbon and a sponge to clean out the water I honestly love it I reccomend to everyone to get this for there freshwater aquriums and dont get Aquean those brake so easy and there just cheap and terrible!

Ive had the 110 gallon filter about 7 months now. It barely gives half the flow at max as it did on medium when I bought it. I clean it often, change the filter materials, etc., and still continues to decline. Also shows ANY algae, dirt, etc very easily, since it is clear. It doesnt clean easily either.

Pros: easy to install

Cons: hard to clean

I have 3 of these. I have the AC 70, 30 and 20. All are great. Unlike what most people think these filters are EXTREMELY cheep to use. In all of mine I run 1 sponge, and 2 bags of biomax. You should NEVER replace the biomax. That is where your beneficial bacteria live. If you throw away your biomax you will have to start your cycle again. It is dangerous to the fish when this happens. To clean the sponge just squeeze it a couple of times in used tank water. This only needs to be done 1x per month. These filters are silent. The only reason why you would ever need to use carbon is to remove medication from your tank. Like I said low maintenance, cheep, quiet, great performance. I will only use these filters.

This is the best little filter money can buy! I have the aquaclear 20 and love it. Does a great job keeping my 10 gallon aquarium and all it occupants happy. Everyone says that the filter replacements are expensive. I have to disagree. Yes there are 3 parts to the filter but not all of them are replaced at the same time. Like the sponge and bio max do not have to be replaced for a few months. The only thing that needs to be replaced around a month is the ammonia clear or carbon insert. I do have to agree that changing the filter media can be a pain. It is a little tricky to get the media in there just right, but your hard work pays off with having crystal clear water and happy fish.

Pros: keeps tank clean, customizable media, lifetime gaurentee, actually filters!!!

Cons: changing out media can be a pain

I love how quiet this filter runs in my 29gal tank. Does an excellent job at filtering the tank water also. The only drawback is that you have to buy 3 replacement cartridges instead of only changing 1 filter pad.

I've used every type of filter there is, in tanks ranging from 5 gallons up to 55 gallons, and the Aqua Clear Filters are leagues beyond all others. There isn't even a way to compare them to other types or brands, as they are so good as to command their own category.
I put my Aqua Clear 30 in my 20 gallon tank, and did a double take 2 hours later when I walked by it... The tank was so incredibly clear that it looked as if the fish were floating on air. I wouldn't even consider using anything else, even if you paid me to use it. And no, I do not work for the company; I just happen to be an extremely satisfied customer!

Pros: perfectly clear water, healthy happier fish (no joke), much cheaper to use than disposable wafer filters, customizable to your needs and tank

Cons: i didn't discover aqua clear sooner

I bought a Top Fin 55 gallon starter kit from Petsmart, the filter was really cheap. The Top Fin 60 acted more like a skimmer than anything. I got my hands on aHagen Aqua Clear Power Filter 70 and it cleared up my water in an hour. I highly recommend these filters to anyone that has cloudy water problems!

I have a 60 gallon tank, and could not easily fit a cannister filter in the stand. The other large hang-on the tank filters took up a lot of space on the backside of the tank. The AquaClear 70 exceeded all of my expectations. The water has been crystal clear for months, the filter is quiet, the flow rate can be adjusted, and different filter media combinations can be used.

I purchased this item to clear up my 55 gallon tank that had hign nitrate levels and the water was so cloudy it look like fog. After installing this filter my levels went down and I had a clear tank that was crystal clear. I would recommend this item for all fish tanks. This product is excellent and works fast. It is well worth the money for an outstanding crystal clear tank.

I had the 50 gallon filter. It was quiet and did a great job in cleaning the tank and the included biomax is great because it allows beneficial bacteria to grow in the filter. The 50 is silent with no water sound! I upgraded to the 70 and you can hear it. It's tolerable, but there is a humming and water sound. I've tried other filters, and this is the best. I love my 70 if I need to, will upgrade to the 110. The filtration box lets you put almost anything you want, like more carbon, ammonia chips, biomax etc. You can play around with it and make it your own. I have goldfish and they get the water dirty sometimes, so increase the flow rate when I need it.

Pros: affordable price, you can add whatever media you wish, adjustable filtration rate!

I purchased this item about a month ago I was about to give up on my 55 gallon tank. In the past I had used a bio-wheel filter and it did not work my tank looked horrible. Now after purchasing the aqua clear filter my tank has never looked so good it started working the same day I installed it..I love it and I would highly recomend this product.

Got into the hobby about 5 months ago and was dealing with the dreaded cycle. I was using Tetra filters and Top Fin but neither would kick the ammonia and my water was always cloudy. I really believed I was doing something wrong and almost gave up the hobby as I was extremely tired of water changes. I decided to give it one more try and bought 2 of the AquaClear 50 Filters. In less then 2 days the water was clear, my ammonia reading dropped and was finally producing nitrites. I have a 70 Gallon tank with 36 fish and I never have any spikes in ammonia ever. I would've went with the AquaClear 70 but like having 2 filters on both sides of the tank. Tank is crystal clear, fish are extremely happy and definitely love the waterfall effect. You will not go wrong in buying these filters. Comes with 3 stages and you don't have to change the media all at the same time preserving the necessary bacteria that we all need to keep established. I highly recommend these filters for beginners to the very experienced. There is other media that you can exchange to suit your needs for filtration. Can't go wrong with these!!!!
