this kit is great i bought it for my 55 gallon tank. i had my water tested at the local pet store and the ammonia was really high. so i bought some ammonia fix and i used it but it doesn't cure the problem it only reduces the ammonia 3 ppm with each treatment. then i knew i must purchase a test kit. this kit online is a great value and priced better than i could find in any store. when it arrived i tested my water with all test in this kit. my water was fine i had fixed the problems that i had. on the other hand i have a 1 gallon tank for a goldfish, which i thought was in good condition. but i thought what the hay i will test its water quality too. i performed all of the tests in this kit. my poor goldfish was soon on his way out! he would have been dead in a couple of days. the ammonia and nitrates were off the charts. i preformed 50% water change and added conditioners for treatment and now fishy is doing great. thanks to this kit my children won't have to wake up to a dead pet. now i belive i shouldn't have many more problems with either of my tanks with the help of this test kit.

This is the go to product for testing water parameters. Cycling a tank is almost impossible without checking levels daily. With easy to follow instructions and everything you need included this is a must have for anyone with a freshwater aquarium!

I got this so I could test my tank's water parameters and it has been working wonderfully! It is so EASY to test my water with this kit and its very simple. I totally recommend this kit and I find nothing wrong with it. I'm super happy with it and I got a lot of bang for my buck.

Definitely a "must have" for all the ones who want to carry seriously this hobby, it's not too hard once you learn the times, the bottles comes with the number of drops you must use on every test, I've solved the fill problem using a 10 mililitres syringe, this way I can fill two test tubes.

I'm cycling another tank and this kit has everything I need. The tests all work fine and the kit also has 4 test tubes included (great for people like me who are prone to breaking their tests tubes).

I purchased this product because my fish didn't seem healthy and I didn't know what was wrong with him. I even received expert advise on what the issue could be. High Ammonia was what I was told. Well, the results I got from this test kit was completely different. Instead, it showed that the Nitrate levels were high and that's what was causing my fish to be so stressed and ill. My point here is that even expert advise can be wrong. I am very happy with this product and recommend it to anyone who has fish. You can never really know what is going on with your fish tank and having this test kit is a must and well worth the cost.

The new packaging is cheesy and the API Freshwater Master Kit no longer include the KH and GH testing solutions. I returned mine after discovering these 2 tests are now missing from their Master Kit. I keep Rift Lake cichlids and my water hardness is of great importance to me. The old kits were a far better deal imo for those that keep really close tabs on their waters real condition. The old packaging was much better also. After 7 years it still holds up. The new packaging is horrendous and simply not worth what they charge for these kits these days. All in all I am very disappointed with the direction API is going and will be looking to other manufacturers to get what I need. Sad they had to change things when they had it right the first time. Their test kits have always been top notch but their new bundling method stinks. I'm sure I'm not the only customer they will lose because they couldn't leave well enough alone.....

I'm sort of new to the aquarium hobby and did tons of research before buying a tank and getting fish. After setting up my tank I looked at petsmart at different water testing kits. I asked my friends who have been doing this for years and years and it is ESSENTIAL and MUST HAVE for all types of aquarists to keep your fish happy and water healthy for them. For the money spent on this over 800 tests! I couldn't pass it up. This also a far more accurate than doing test strips as well!

Pros: easy to use, superb quality, very accurate

These work great and are very accurate. However whenever I test the water my sister claims that the kitchen looks like a chemistry lab. Testing pH is he simplest of the test to do since all you need to do is add 3 drops and shake the test tube.

It comes with enough test tubes that you can test everything all at once.

Pros: more accurate than the testing strips

This is the best test kit I've found. It's reliable, just make sure to really shake up the nitrate test. Does a great job, lasts a long time. I'd never use another test kit!

For the most part this test is extremely easy to use, easier if you have access to an eyedropper or syringe for water measuring. Nitrate test can be a bit tricky since you HAVE to shake hard but really, it's SO much more accurate than the test strips and in the long run much cheaper. Wear gloves...the cautions aren't just for giggles.

Pros: accurate, pretty easy, 80-100 tests per kind of test, good color cards

Cons: nitrate test not as user friendly, caustic chemicals

I bought this product to test the water of my 10g mini tropical community and my 5g betta tank. its a bit of a pain to measure out the water, time it ,shake it add the drops etc, but its sooo much more accurate that the strips!!! so worth the 40$ i paid (i live in Canada)

I purchased this product at my local PetSmart and it was a good purchase. I was disappointed by the fact that it did not have a KH Testing Kit in it. The Ammonia, NitrAte, NitrIte and pH testings are very accurate. I give it a one thumb up.

It is missing the hardness testing kit. It gives you a high ph testing kit that normally you will not need. This is a good kit if you do not have any testing supplies. I rather buy it separate next time. Easy to USE instruction is on the back of the color card.

I own the master test kit as well and I found a very easy way to get the appropriate amount of water in each test tube every time. Instead of dipping the test tube itself into the water, use a clean new eye dropper or a syringe used to deliver liquid baby medicine. It's so much quicker than dunking the test tube, pouring out the excess, refilling it, pouring out...etc. etc.

I agree with the other reviewers. This is a very accurate and helpful test kit and excellent for home use. Just be very careful with the bottles because the chemicals are very caustic--a fact that is clearly labeled on the bottles and in the instruction manual. Heed the warning labels and keep way out of reach of children and if you have sensitive skin, wear gloves while handling. It is a bit of a pain getting water samples and cleaning up afterwards, but the convenience of being able to do in-home testing and the accuracy of the results are well worth it. I find this product absolutely indispensible when starting a tank and determining where you are in the nitrogen cycle.
