Pros: these are awesome!!

"Natural shells really are the best way to go. When buying shells for your crab, be sure to buy different styles and shapes as well as sizes because even though a shell might be big enough, the curve might not be comfortable. Even though the painted shells are pretty, they are toxic to crabs and given the option, a hermit crab will change out of the painted shell and into a natural shell as soon as it feels safe to do so. Because of this, if you buy a painted shell, the chances of your crab ever changing into it are slim to none."

"this is the BEST type of hermit crab shell to buy. Hermit crabs in painted shells tend to be unhappy and unhealthy. Painted shells can be toxic to your crabs, so please buy these natural shells. They are much better and much healthier for your crabs."

"My hermit crabs love natural shells and will choose them over painted shells (which are potentially harmful to them) any day. The shells at PetSmart are gorgeous & have a variety of sizes and species. Please, buy at least 3 per hermit crab and allow them to choose their favorite."
